I have an important question about comics.
What percentage of the comics you read are read digitally, if any?

While my phone... IT IS LIMITLESS!!
But I do wish it was 100% mine.
I do still get trades now and again, though.
Not because of quality. More the technology I guess.
So currently none.
I just don't get out to comic book stores regularly enough. If it's a graphic novel or collected, I'll read those but I'm grabbing those maybe once a year at this point?
I get all mine physically if I can and if at all possible. Just something about holding a comic book, TPB or Omnibus in hand that feels just right ❤️
Collecting / rereading favorites = physical
But I also just had a kid and moved into a house within walking distance of a LCBS, so once his stubby lil legs can walk down the hill we're gonna start buying physical :)
There are some comics I'd like physical copies of, but majority I prefer digital. Feels more convenient for me.
I occasionally read back issues that a current comic refers to.
If comics become more expensive, I may shift a larger portion to digital.
If there's a series I really like I'll also buy a trade with the goal of getting it signed one day, but cons are less a thing for me these days due to covid.
So for now I'm just sticking to digital
Don’t mind physically but digital is easy on the go. (Do have some physical ones though)
Pretty much just webcomics.
And even then, if they have physical releases I read those instead.
But yeah 99+% I read physical books.
I mean I don’t judge folks who read them digitally. Maintaining a library is a matter of space and money.
But holding a book is part of the whole experience for me.
It's the same with all fiction. I only buy books by friends also in print. The only exceptions are how-to books in larger formats, and some "pretty" books.
I do follow a few comic strips online, because there are no more paper newspapers.
Losing my LCS a decade ago, really changed how I consume comics.
though I've been using DCBS for the must haves, and that has been nice getting monthly comics again.
I picked up a classic run of Wonder Woman from Perez to Rucka for a third of the price one of those volumes would cost physical
I will buy a hardback graphic novel or collection rarely.
I bought a tab the size of a comic book and it's been perfect.
Btw you can do polls using https://poll.blue/post
I do still buy the occasional special issue, like Action #1000 and things like that, but otherwise, 100% digital.
Paying cover price just to find that the speech boxes are in 'handwriting font' and I can't read sucks.
I need to bump that up seeing as I'm paying for the whole DC Universe Infinite Ultra thing...
I like to hold my comics in my hands. It's nostalgia, I guess.
Going through my collection, riffling through the boxes, arranging them this way or that.
It's a huge part of the fun for me.
The downside of this; I live outside the US, sometimes my orders don't come through & it's expensive.
This might change if I lose comics from a service going down.
I tend to buy compilations/omnibuses for titles/authors I like.
Special titles I get print versions.
Never really enjoyed singles - they're over too fast and fragile.
I think it's because the first ones I read were my mom's Archie digests & double digests.
I try to keep up with the current stuff. But I've missed two weeks in a row now.
I used to wait forever for a tpb as I was too impatient with issue to issue. I might go back to that.
Whilst I much prefer books in physical form, comics take up a lot more space and are a lot quicker to read.
There's also the fact that I'm reading through the CMRO list - I'm up to the very early 80s - and finding all of those in physical form would be a nightmare...
I mostly only read digital comics that I can't buy in paper form, like collections with really old stories. In that sense digital is very useful and fun, but I don't use it for new comics.
I will say though, the DC compact-style books have paper that is WAYYY nicer for me use
Don’t publish them either.
I have half a closet full of longboxes and I couldn't fiscally or physically afford to buy more paper copies.
I'm mostly collections / ogns
So like 99% physical
I read trade only, and I like the paper.
It's annoying that a comic's success is measured in physical sales and not online sales. If I want to support a title I have to buy printed issues I'll still read digitally.
I've read a few here and there over the years, but I really don't prefer it. It was out of necessity; I was on the road for months or it was a digital only release
i did read a whole lot more when i had it, though!
