Congrats to everyone who said the parties were the same and we should punish the Dems by staying home or whatever because of Gaza (which was and is legitimately horrifying but…)
fuck off. the harris campaign shot themselves in the foot. the time for your petty grievances is over. are you interested in solutions or are you just here to be a petulant child?
(and before you say it, i voted for harris. it felt fucking gross. that's not how it should be and you goddamn know it)
I’ve never voted for a presidential candidate and had it not feel gross. But it’s a big part of how the sausage of social progress might be made and we need to stop being such self-centered babies about it if we don’t want a lot of people to die who might otherwise live. It’s not about us.
Oh I’m not telling anyone to trust any process but we had a binary choice between an administration cool with our client state killing tens or hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and one horny to kill tens or hundreds of millions and a lot of us went “eh increase the contradictions I guess”
Dismantling USAID has already killed many more vulnerable people in a few months throughout the Global South than our enablement of Israel has killed in Gaza over one-and-a-half years, but I guess that's just the price we (they) must pay for the revolution that somehow never comes
It’s such a fucking cop out to give all agency to the politicians, or to do the “I’m a coy damsel who must be courted before I will give up my precious vote” dance
Like you have agency here. You can vote and do a million other things to try and make things suck less, but the voting part is pretty essential and if you don’t do it you’re de facto voting for the worst possible outcome
The really sad part is that Kushner told us all what their plan was LONG before the election, and they did all they could to get trump in the White House anyway.
It's like they really didn't give a shit about the Palestinian people.
America has no left wing, this is a rotten conservative country full of bitter arrogant people at the end of the day - of course people were implicitly on board with Trump's bullshit, they didn't think it would affect them anyway
I’d say we have a left but that it’s as susceptible to our deep-seated cultural narcissism/cult of the individual and consumer mindset as the normies and the righties are
Their actions are appalling and inhumane. Also, according to a Lancet study almost 700,000 “excess deaths” occurred because of the American war in Iraq. The architects of that illegal war never suffered any meaningful consequences and some are, in fact, lauded as never-Trumpers.
How you count later wars, for example, like "which other wars were caused by the first part" gets increasingly fuzzy, as does the estimation of "downstream" deaths due to various kinds of disruptions.
Honestly, I have no clear picture of any of this data, I'm just a dude.
Since this print is small I just feel compelled to boost this sentence: Brooke Nichols, an associate professor of global health at Boston University, has estimated that these cuts have already resulted in about 300,000 deaths, most of them of children
There are many deaths and many children who were getting help have died because of the lack of. His decisions are NOT PRO LIFE! He is a crooked devil who is out to kill and pardon.
I swear the more I learn about Elongated Muskrat, the more I'm convinced he tried to pitch himself as Tony Stark, when in reality, he's a low poly Lex Luthor.
Trumpism is fascism, and above all else, a cult of death. They simply love to spread death, from suicides to disease to infant mortality to murder. They love it, and their voters love it too.
Compare the media/public reaction to Trump/Musk pulling USAID out of Africa to the media/public reaction to Biden pulling the military out of Afghanistan.
Good news/bad news, I don't have a lot of faith in those numbers. The tracker was showing thousands of deaths like a week in and that's not how causality works.
You don't die of starvation in a week. And it's not like cancelling the grants had a same-day effect, there are logistics involved. the impacts of this change will take a while to be seen fully and will have a long tail.
There are lifelong impacts of starvation that are disabling, especially for children even if they survive. Whether in the U.S. or around the world, fixing food insecurity is a moral imperative.
When you total excess civilian deaths from all causes, the Iraq War was far, far higher still. Never mind that there's no reason to cut it off after a decade, given the Iraq War is rightly credited with creating ISIS 📈📉 accuracy in mass death statistics please
Absolutely they have, but hardly makes the news, poor people. It's also destroyed a huge swathe of US soft power, good will, but Trump/Musk wouldn't understand that.
There’s absolutely 0% chance that 300k kids have died in the last 3 months due to USAID cuts. I hate that it happened, but let’s use a shred of common sense.
I would not love to believe it, I hate that it's true. Do you have a better estimate than a professor of global health? Please, show the class & share your work
The Iraq War death toll is uncertain and highly contested. There are many reasonable estimates that say up to a million excess deaths occurred as a result of the Iraq War. So we will have to wait until several more months go by before Elon/Donnie catch up to George W.
Unfettered gun ownership
Legal machine guns & silencers
Ban vaccines & compromise healthcare
Control women's bodies to their detriment
Eliminate safety regulations
Increase the danger of air travel
Just a short list of steps that Trump is taking to kill as many of us as possible to serve Putin.
Like for like would probably be the excess deaths numbers which are in the half a million to a million range for the Iraq war (depending on the study). Still completely appalling (in both cases)
The U.S. also bears responsibility for the inter-war deaths. The 1,000,000+ that died due to sanctions. Albright famously said half a million dead kids were a small price for "peace" 🤮
Excess-death studies for post-war use the inflated mortality rates for the sanctions period so likely under-count.
I already commented during his first administration that he is guilty of crimes against humanity. They both should be arrested and tried by the world court.
Conservatively estimated at 25 million over 15 years. Don't worry though, they are mostly darker skinned, so don't contribute to Musk's white genocide: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-01191-z
Well, IMO schools (especially elementary and middle) should have been the first "nonessential" spaces to open and the last to close. It was absurd that I could go to a brewery and get a beer (even if just outside) while my sister-in-law was teaching sixth graders over Zoom.
Oh I totally agree. But we still cannot say that Trump killed people with the MAGA vaccine narrative. After the vaccine, deaths in red regions soared 30% higher than deaths in blue regions.
And now? We're shutting down vaccinations.
It's most likely an underestimate. The methodology for each component is on the website. For instance, for malaria they state that it only counts African countries that participated in a particular USAID-funded program that was terminated and that deaths are likely higher.

Tbf, millions died due to US intervention in Iraq. Not saying your statement isn't correct, only that the figures which place the total in Iraq under 300k are massive undercounting
Elon Musk didn’t “disrupt” government—he helped dismantle life-saving aid. Cutting 80% of USAID grants has already led to an estimated 300,000 deaths, mostly children. That’s his political legacy. Not innovation—atrocity.
Either you are OK with literally torching the entire world and ending civilization simply out of spite to get revenge on Joe Biden, or you have always been a conservative and are using this as an excuse. The second one is sadder, but simpler and I have to imagine the most accurate.
One of the things clever people would say about Trump was that for all his bluster and cravenness, the Bush administration did far more damage. This always seemed... naive.
Trump's mishandling of Covid killed people both directly, for those who died of Covid, and indirectly, for those who died from the reduction in quality of care in our overburdened healthcare system.
Just on its face it was never plausible. I feel like people don't understand how many bodies that would be, just the sheer scale of avoiding a mass public health crisis in burying them would have been obvious.
It always seemed true to me only in a strictly quantifiable sense — whereas Trump was busy doing a type of damage that is severe, if not something that can be put into numbers. But I guess he is now catching up with those standards of reckoning as well…
Not really, we're still suffering under what Reagan and both Bushes did
It will take many more decades for that damage to be undone
Neither you, nor I will even live long enough to see it
I view Bush as a paving stone on the way to Trump I & II. The blatant lies & disinformation (the alternative reality, really), the nationalism, the dog whistles, voter disenfranchisement, open embrace of secret courts & torture, unilateralism, etc. etc. etc. Hell, even Justice Roberts.
W picked the most rightwing nutjobs from the Reagan/HW Bush years. Trump I had a lot of those types around but at this point, Elliot Abrams and John Bolton aren’t far right enough.
GW Bush is the one who set up PEPFAR. The program whose destruction is responsible for most of those deaths now.
I'm no fan of him, but he did a few good things.
Reagan changed US (as did Thatcher in UK) into a libertarian country, shrinking the state in favour of the wealthy. The wealthy became even more wealthy on the backs of the impoverished and immigrants. They killed any chance of social mobility.
💯. That’s why I still thought Bush was worse than Trump 1, there was elite pushback against Trump that wasn’t there for Bush so more lasting damage was done.
With Trump II there’s much less elite pushback and the admin is stocked with the worst people imaginable, generational damage is happening.
Yeah, we’ll be dealing with the consequences of this for at least the rest of my life. I’m honestly pretty worried for the kids growing up in this climate.
I think the implication is that 300,000 have been killed *so far* and so the total will eclipse the Iraq War death toll after a few more months. I think it's important people know how many people actually died in Iraq, so thanks for the important context
You can read how the figure was arrived at here. I've been screaming about this for months. I'm glad it's finally made the news, but it's taken so long.
AIDS was becoming endemic in subsaharan Africa before PEPFAR funding for no-cost antiviral distribution. It is now becoming endemic again, now that this funding has stopped. Simple.
(There's nothing to stop other countries stepping in, however)
If this is remotely accurate then the young children of former congressman Joe Walsh went to bed hungry on a regular basis:
"The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that former congressman Joe Walsh has petitioned the court for permission to reneg on his $2,134 monthly court-ordered support payment."
Over a million Americans died of Covid. More than 400,000 of them can be directly laid at Trump’s feet. Yet he’s back.
Him causing mass death is nothing new or surprising, and his fans - half the voters - want more of it. Reports need to give more than numbers. Focus on how to fight back.
Absolutely sickening character .. prime example of heartless human being right on the international scene to be looked at by everyone. People wake up if you still think he is a cool guy !
AND YET this fucking shithead has the gall to go into an interview and say things like "people are threatening violence against tesla dealerships?! How could they do that? They must be evil"
Its absurd and infuriating how fucking stupid and evil he is
And even worse (at least to me) how goddamned stupid and willfully-ignorant the vast majority of 'Muricans are, supporting and cheering on this cancerous human. #fuckingidiocracy
All of the people who did not vote for Harris are responsible Trump being president. However, if “no vote” was a candidate, it would have won. Everyone who was too lazy to vote is equally responsible for Trump‘s victory.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/opinion/elon-musk-doge-usaid.html You have to hand it to @michellegoldberg.bsky.social here: not only is this an arrow aimed squarely at the heart of Musk’s rehabilitation tour, it’s also a stiff-arm gesture towards her employer’s and coworkers’ participation in that PR offensive.
And Kushner, who was in charge of the Covid response. It was killing people in blue urban areas at the time. And he scrapped it. Didn’t make political sense to fight an illness that killed his enemies.
Having delivered starvation & pestilence around the world, Mu$$$k steps aside, leaving to sewage-drenched Old Worm for Brains the task of delivering them at home.
The chain of incompetence is unbroken, from Appalachia & Darfur all the way to the Oval Office.
Now that he's no longer part of Chud Central his supporters are going to try a redemption arc for Enron. He should still be a pariah and boycotted and, if possible, bankrupted.
It's not remotely accurate. First of all, the person said 300,000 but the study she cited says 200,000. Almost all of that 200,000 is attributable to two sources - malaria deaths and tuburculosis deaths.
For 100,000 excess children's malaria deaths in 2 years, malaria deaths.....
....would have had to double. The only evidence I see of doubling is in Zimbabwe, but that has been attributable to climate.
On tuberculosis, the only study I've seen of excess deaths due to usaid losses suggests US aid loss will lead to 50,000 excess deaths per year, 16% of which are children...
.... These numbers are, for sure, not great! But (a) overstating things for dramatic effect is not helpful, and (b) It's simply not true that this is solely on the US. The rest of the world shouldn't rely on the US! Were unstable! They can replace this funding!
you're a fucking lawyer. stay in your lane. address the actual methodology if you want to confidently spew bullshit not just your vague notion of what it could be https://www.impactcounter.com/methodology
I understand what you’re saying. I’d also say that these estimates account for deaths set in motion, like when a pregnant person with untreated HIV passes the virus to their baby who also won’t receive treatment and will likely die young as a result.
The 15 million people are not dead yet. That is estimates of future deaths. It could be more! But it also could be far less if we and others act quickly to reverse or mitigate the cuts.
Many of them are children who now have HIV, and whose parents are now likely to die. By spending a lot more money we could save them, but no one is coming to their rescue.
A much more expensive endeavor than just stopping them from getting it in the first place. We were working on eradicating the disease! I'm so heartbroken.
No wonder racist Musk wanted to “shred” USAID; it stepped in during apartheid to help with a program that prepared non-white students to lead in post-apartheid South Africa.
The dude made covid twice as deadly as it needed to be, and Musk forced people back to work during lockdown. Republicans writ large have destroyed trust in vaccines, and, oh yeah, have enabled mass shootings for decades. Murder isn't new for any of them. It's literally been GOP policy since forever.
The Muslim immigrant mother of this year’s Scripp’s National Spelling Bee winner exclaimed, “America is the greatest country on Earth.” She’s also an M.D. in Texas.
Immigrant, brown, Muslim, (educated) female thinks America is the greatest?! 🤦🏻♀️
I have no words… wait! These words… This S- - - T show has got to be stopped at all levels! Call/email reps, senators… ask people you know to do it too! Join the work of Indivisible, 50501, others. RESIST💪🏻. See you on No Kings Day!
Also worth noting the grants they claim to have retained will all be imminently out of money since this is the time of the fiscal year where new tranches of funds are typically pushed out but there's no staff left to do this. So even "active" grants will no longer actually function
I’m no math wizard, but I feel like Leon depopulating the planet by the many thousands works pretty directly against his goal of repopulating the planet by seeding 20 or so kids.
Trump sucks, but where are people getting this from? Yes, people died of covid, but people died of covid worldwide. The death toll was also higher than many "comparable" countries. However, the U.S. also doesn't have a healthcare system the way most countries do, it's not really "comparable" at all.
Trump and his weird circle are heavily responsible for the global attitude of "let's never care about public health again", they made COVID magnitudes worse
Trump encouraged people to avoid masks and vaccines, disparaged public health guidance, and attacked public servants trying to protect people. Check the Herman Cain Awards on Reddit for numerous people who died by COVID as an ideological statement of support for Trump.
I really don't understand if you're tired of supporting me after we've come most of the way, look into my eyes and think about what's happening to me now or what might happen! We haven't received any donations for a month due to the lack of internet, so help me donate 🍉😭💔 https://gofund.me/f2aa3f76

Favour the short term harm reduction if you want, but don't pretend yours is the only side thinking about it.

Direct deaths from war (in Iraq specifically) are estimated around 300k.
Later deaths from, say, destruction of safe water infrastructure, get you higher numbers, if you count them.
Honestly, I have no clear picture of any of this data, I'm just a dude.

Compare the media/public reaction to Trump/Musk pulling USAID out of Africa to the media/public reaction to Biden pulling the military out of Afghanistan.
It's shameful.
The country has been trained not to care by both parties.
Nobody ever asks that

This is what:
👉 self centeredness ("all I care about is my egg prices")
