Yup- I was chatting with other folks that generally work in the AFRICOM AOR and while we aren’t going to become the priority we never expected to be and never have been. We have no hopes to be dashed, just the slow march forward with the spare change of the DoD budget. It’s rather freeing, honestly.

Oh indeed. I mean low priority also means a lot of autonomy. Look at all the current writing on “what trump II might mean for Africa” or what Pham at the helm of Africa policy might mean and really there’s a lot more continuity than change. The changes are more often of scale not nature.
