Of course. There's a saying: "everything is free until someone figures how to make money on it". I guess we could also say "everything is unfair until someone figures how to make money on it".
If I don't burgle houses, then my house burgling business will collapse! These AI arguments are so blatantly terrible, but somehow people just swallow up that it's fine as it's this splendid new technology. Nick Clegg is just on the side of the establishment now.
I think we clearly do have an AI industry, loads of lobbyists and PR people, and media-types, are making all sorts of money from AI, don't undervalue their hard work in the grift.
Strange that the billions (*) it costs to train the models doesn't seem to hinder the AI industry, which is running at massive losses right now, but paying people for their copyrighted work and intellectual property somehow would kill it
Why does AI - presumably trying to provide business and government solutions - benefit from song lyrics or novels, unless they are specifically intending to replace creatives?
Surely they'd need factual information and writing?
Good. AI should fail in terms of art theft. It has its uses elsewhere but should never cost jobs for mediocre work. Also idfc how good it gets its still theft. Being inspired vs mashing peoples work into a sort of what you want mash is fucking bullshit.
Like yeah if it can adjust graphical settings and do a bunch of irritating bs no one wants to do ok. In terms of art and even coding, its important we pick up a pencil and start typing. Code kills me but when draw scribbles and I run what I code and it works...jfc that fills me with joy.
I suck at it but I made it. I scribbled, made pixel art, coded I keep trying. Yes its upsetting when its not 100% what you want but ffs im not building a last second defense I am expressing my very active imagination <3
"But, but, but we can't keep getting investment if we can't make it look like it's working and we can't make it look like its working with out stealing so how will we make money if we can't steal? It's not like we have a or ever will have a viable product."

I'm all for not gatekeeping knowledge, information, and technologies. But wouldn't it also mean that AI would be free and OpenSource ?
You wanna end IP ? End capitalism.
the hubris & narcissism of TechBros.
Andrew Tate is rightfully reviled for propagating a 'lifestyle' of violent misogyny.
The misogyny & criminality of the TechBros is first layered behind lawyers & spin.
Tate's problem is that he wasn't rich enough first.
Epstein? Not enough marketing.
What happens when someone starts the Dark AI (as if they haven't already)?
I contend, btw, that all creative AI is dark AI.
"I can't make money with this unless I break the law, so you must let me break the law. For the good of humanity."
will work as long as we buy that gen AI is necessary to us as a society (it's not)

Don't be such a bag of dicks.
You don't have to go to everyone's door to get them to opt-in.
My AI business will fail if they don’t!
I should not overlook that ai tzar dude either whatever his name is who wrote the gov docs.
(*) Didn't Altman want trillions?
Surely they'd need factual information and writing?
It seems that "losing the plot" is a recurring feature of Clegg.
Better kill human artists than Artificial Ignorance...
