here’s my free idea for companies mad that their employees don’t want to come back to the office: give them actual offices again.

a thing that most companies have grappled very poorly with is making offices actual collaborative spaces, because if they’re not, it’s very hard to understand why you should be in them

Just like we do now at home except in a noisy office.
But really, I think a lot of RTO is stealth layoffs while avoiding labor laws regarding notice, unemployment, etc.
What creeped me out wasn't the sci-fi element of the severance procedure, it's that the fluorescent-lit office Hellscape isn't *that* far removed from real offices
Crushingly depressing
It stays a slow burn. At the end of season 1 they tip over the apple cart. We get a 'break out' of that world.
And it is SO worth the buildup.
Plus, season 2 seems to rock.
Really gave the lie to the idea it was to promote culture and collaboration.
It also seems like a few tech people mistakenly applied the open concept and other tech leaders don't wanna look dumb by not following.
"Fine, then give us back our own space that we can personalize and have some privacy so we can focus on our work. If you want us to just hotel it at desks, no one is going to do it."
But lately colleagues who are joining a call from an office generally have much more LOUD background noise than people joining from home.
It's terrible for work.
