Multnomah County is gutting social services that keep people housed. every program that aids the poor and marginalized. mental health services and county adult special services, all axed. DA Nathan Vasquez is asking for a budget increase
next year Oregon will give back roughly $1.5 billion in taxes

The state economist has to make a guess about how much tax revenue is going to come in, and if he guesses too low, the state has to give back all the money above that number. (Oversimplification, but that's the jist of it.)

Fuck the poor, amirite?
...But he still consults for DuPont. 🤷♀️
At least my county passed a ballot initiative to keep property tax revenue for a few years instead of sending us all checks for $5- $50.
even cutting the top 10% of earners out of the kicker could make up for a lot of this
One third of the kicker next year would cover that, leaving around a billion to return to taxpayers
Or is this funding cut/shortfall on a state level and not a cut of federal funding?
Like I know this is just my stupid idealism being broken in the face of continuing the history of the most vulgar and disgusting racism and classism in existence, but it just sucks...
Please let me be wrong.
Does it feel good to get a big check? Of course.
But I’m just going to blow it on video games and alcohol so don’t give it to me, give it to the programs that need it.
😢
Never saw a proud boy march in Little Rock.
And waste taxpayer money on campaigning/ fundraising to persuade people to choose them to receive their funds
