Gonna be blunt, I wish the original games were properly remastered and re-released on modern platforms alongside remakes, because quite frankly it's hard to not feel like these remakes are intended to entirely supersede the original games that are no longer available.

Silent Hill remake confirmed from official account (as opposed to a new Silent Hill entry)

There are so many times where a remake is seen as the "definite" version of a game by default even if there was something lost in translation between versions.
(Plus, if I want the best PC version, mods exist)
I did play SH2 remake, and I did like it, but as a total package it's kinda blown away by the original.
Like I’m glad to hear the 2 remake went well; that rules, I’ll play it eventually, but no matter how good it is it shouldn’t serve to replace the original game
the FF7 remakes are reimaginings but the original is readily available in *several* places
Even as retro styles continue to be massively popular for indie games.
That said I do generally like being in this gray area because I don't think projects such as Silent Hill 2 Enhanced or Resident Evil REBIRTH would exist if we had the official ports
Like—just fix those 7th gen ports.
Konami lost the source code/team silent did. The games would need remakes or emulated re-releases.
“Oh, you can no longer play this game because it’s not available on current hardware? Well, tough shit! Either wait for us to remake it or play something else.”
It's part of why I dislike games like the Resident Evil 2 remake and I also dread the idea of Capcom ever touching RE 1 and remaking it *again*, but this time making it so it plays with an over the shoulder camera, because one too many people complain about fixed angles and tank controls :/
I don't like how companies reinforce this awful idea that old games are automatically bad just because they are old and maybe a bit janky and rough around the edges.
Old, janky games are fun!
But Silent Hill was never preserved that same way, and it’s sad.
(And why I'm practically *salivating* over NWN2 remaster)
I wish RE:make had the OG game, tbh.
We should be able to just buy a game as influential as Silent Hill.
I believe thats fair and should be how it done
My largest game collections are ps1, ps2 PSP and then the 3 waayyy less discs ; and the 4 i have something like 2 games total :(
Just get them to run on newer hardware and OS, maybe some quality of life and they are more than fine
I highly enjoyed the Quake II remaster for ex.

What a miracle they pulled off, honestly.
I heard it was thanks to the external consulting team who were real fans, so hats off to them.
Our medium is very young, and-
Newer live service titles and work becomes lost to history due to how much its tied to-
Im hoping that while some of this stuff still exists, there continues to be people that have the foresight to maintain it so people can not only hear about its history, but experience it for themselves.
Games are an interactive medium, and more than any other-
I know there’s a lot of people who care about that right now, and I can only hope the industry can help those people with their efforts
I don't want a remake, i want the blockiest blocks i've ever seen when playing SH1 and i'm not joking
Some companies trying to erase the past with their reboot/remasters these days.
tho seriously, apparently Konami lost the original codes or whatevers. tho idk enough to know why they can't just get any copy of the games and rework em.
And hell Silent Hill 4 is there as well, so what's even stopping Konami from bare minimum releasing PC ports there as well?
