Hey folks, a reminder:
Don't use Gen ai.
You can either afford an artist/stock art, or you can't.
If you can't, you can make your own art/designs or abstain.
Or you can cheaper your entire brand and communicate to your audience that you peddle low-effort garbage by using a plagiarism machine.

For coding? If you're not using gen AI you're NGMI
(just something to add ontop of all those already great points)
"Oh your company uses AI to advertise/design for your product? Must be cheap and low quality if you couldn't afford a real artist."
Artists are a mark of luxury and quality. Bring back the prestige of the royal portrait painters of old.
I said repeatedly on the bird place: Self-publishers who "can't afford" good cover art can't afford to run a publishing company.
Covers make or break book sales. Even using a template is sketchy. But AI is DEFINITELY a bad idea. It DOES cheapen the brand.
If I ever try to make any form of art now I'll make my own low quality garbage lol
there's even lots of FREE stock art out there.
If nothing else, start with an image search on DuckDuckGo or Google.
But Teaberry Blue posted more information in her thread.

Also, if you need NPC portraits, Heroforge and Picrew are right there.
If they don't escape containment, those are fiiiine. (I should get the plastic standees of my PCs, though. Just... need a place to put them.)
there are a BUNCH of artists who sell entire packs of pre-made NPC portraits and maps.
you can photoshop a mustache on a stock image.
Not saying AI doesn't have huge downsides (grifters loves it) but it is important to be informed.
Generally, cool jobs should not be replaced by subpar but cheap replacement. I think, we all can agree about it.
Using this as an avatar a couple places and it's fine.
I'll pick this over using AI any time.
Two of my bestfriends are artists, and they got enough trouble promoting their work as it is. I will be damned before I use that IA art crap.
A scan of a notebook I wrote and drew in in my own cack-handed way, then filtered
I'd rather use my terrible art than LLM "Art"
Yep, before '22 people couldn't commission artists because they could not draw a reference.
Barren times.
genAI looks cheap on ya, cheap and lazy :/
And, if you can render your own images, I don't have to do the work 🤣 Find another artist.
I'm quite happy doing things my way.
I run my own server
I am 100% solar powered
What water is used? Where is the CO2 coming from, other than your hole?
Take your fucking bullshit attempt at shaming and stuff it up your voluminous cunt
https://earth.org/the-green-dilemma-can-ai-fulfil-its-potential-without-harming-the-environment/
You're muted too, so rail against blah blah. Any replies will be hidden for everyone.
Enjoy making terrible art no one will care about
Have fun I guess.
You carry on wagging The Finger Of Disapproval
I’m sure someone will take notice
Is it immoral to commission a human to do your mother/daughter portrait "in the style of H.R. Giger"?
True artists should be using these tools to make better art faster, like Photoshop or factory-made pigments.
Yes, all art is theft in a way, but not like GenAI steals...
Externalizing the mind's eye will only help create more great commissions.
GenAI leads to a reduction in pentimento, the destruction of art, rather than a trend toward trash. As I said, I don't think art is worse off because artists have to create their own pigments. Why should artists compromise now?
Art's greatness doesn't derive from suffering.
Humans don't retain data 100%, machines do.
Humans taking a job gives a job to Humans, machines take jobs from Humans.
These arguments have been addressed a million times
Humans using machines to be better humans doesn't take jobs, it changes them.
Democratizing art and creativity will continue to be a net good.
Art can be made with just paper and pencil, and there's free art resources everywhere. Every "good" artist got there thru time and effort alone.
Gen AI is worthless.
I don't think anybody was ever going to be commissioning anyone for doing goofy meme posts
Best thing I would see on Google if someone already did the meme, get a bunch of freeboot stolen memes with ifunny tags on it and never know the original creator
It's also a tool, if your worried about your job. Start offering services to touch up AI art or die as a dinosaur I don't care
Also those indies are how I got started. It was peanuts, but if got my foot in the door. I don't want the ladder pulled up behind me
I thought that was common sense but it's not all that common now is it?
Start touching up AI work, adapt or die
Do you have advice for people regarding drawing the art themselves who (in their hearts) feel what they make is "ugly" or "not good enough" and "people will ignore it because it's ugly"?
The internet tends to reinforce those feelings and then we end up "here".
And you got to ask yourself, what is it you're trying to get out of people by using AI? Praise? Attention? For something you didn't do? What's the point? It's so hollow.
If you really need a drawing or painting, you can attempt a simpler art style. Or, you can make a collage of photos.
Long term, make studies of photos or life from observation! That's the main way to develop your representational art :)
Art and getting playtesters have been my tabletop game design bane.

And I like what you're showing there. Neat stuff!
Plus if you're like me you look at some of the ancient stuff.
I have occasional online arts and crafts days with some friends.
The power of Gen-A/I. 👍
And even then... A bit of a stretch.
For Usurpers I've worked with 5 artists so far.
Struggling is expected. It's hard & takes a long time to master a skill. Most artists don't get their ideas out how they imagine, but they get better with each try. :)
Besides, being "bad" at something is the first step. We all start out small! Mistakes are normal, they're simply part of the learning process and there's nothing to be ashamed of.
Go on YouTube, learn how to use canva or something similar to edit- i promise it will look a thousand times better than genAI
So yes.
I couldn't afford art so I just learned. People are just fcking lazy
I SUCKED at first. Bad. It takes time. You just gotta be okay with sucking at first
Oh wait we're talking about art? Yeah I suck at that too
Because yeah. You probably can.
I've been drawing for 2 and a half years. Just spend 10 minutes a day with a pencil and paper and download Pinterest for ideas and tutorials. It's not that hard to start
Genuinely I think you should. If for any other reason than it'd bring you joy to recapture something you once lost
Even if someone were to train a program on their own art, work, etc, the base training is the issue. You can't train a model with like 100 images, you need billions.
Those billions came from.scraped data
And people who use the labeler won’t see their posts.
