Sounds like some theological discussions.
One of my co-religionists frantically thumbing through his Bible to find the verse that will prove the Bible is the Word of God.
There was a whole goddamn blog and mailing list dedicated specifically to show that AI generated recipes and stuff are horseshit
Where do these doofuses come from?!
How is this stupidity valorized so readily and enthusiastically- of all the crazy making things going on this is the one that just keeps boggling my mind
Do you follow Shanley on here? She seems to have been following the tech side of the techno-fascists like your research with the Tanton network. Her exasperation appears to rhyme with yours.
I've thought about this a lot actually, just writing bots and letting them loose amid actual AI startups and programmers to watch them eat each other. It'd make things so much worse but that's how machine like they already are.
I saw a screenshot of someone who works at a tech startup complaining about exactly this sort of thing. More specifically, they work at an AI startup and were trying to hire new interns, only to run into the problem that basically everyone applying was using AI for applying and showing their skills.
Just using them to build their portfolios or flood their inboxes? Ahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahaha. You can write a really simple bot that'll sell ai start up software for a social media platform (I guess I'm at the "know my enemy" part of my journey sadly)
I know we shouldn't encourage Mr Beast, but if he came up with an episode where he tied 100 of these people to chairs and made them eat the results of 10 of their recipes...
I keep being surprised that nobody vets anything. I guess if they sell even one they make 98% profit. If that person gives them a one star review they give it a new product code or name and do it again. At no point is there any intent to actually make the described product.
"It's unclear how much money Cunningham actually makes from his AI schemes, and how much of his income comes from people paying him to learn how to create their own AI content."
The biggest scammer is the one teaching others to scam. Social media is a gold mine for these people because it is relatively easy to teach people how to run up impressive-looking "impression" and "engagement" numbers. Turning that into money is harder, but by then the "teacher" already has yours.
And THIS is why I keep thrifting physical cookbooks. It's not an addiction, I can stop any time, but getting recipes from the internet in 2025 is going to be like getting drinking water from the Thames in 1858.
I have seen some of these AI recipes online, accompanied by AI "photos" of the food, and they look fake as hell. Does he think we can't figure out whether recipes are real or not?
"Don't worry, the machine built to create plausible sounding answers with no way to verify the truth of anything told me it was true!" The new update for my phone turned the power button into an AI button. We are so cooked.
Yeah, I did. A lot of people (including my mom, for example) won't be able to figure out how, though. Probably a lot will get annoyed with it too, so it seems like it might backfire on Google. One can only hope that if AI annoys enough Boomers, congress might start caring about regulating it.
I couldn't till I googled. And I'm really, really frustrated that now "updates" include: changing my settings, making my power button stop working, connecting me to LLMs against my will, and putting gambling apps on my phone.
Okay, you win. Gambling apps are in fact worse than the brightly-colored, animated status bar pill that appears is in playing audio and that can't be disabled without also disabling the ability to pause audio from my lock screen. I never thought I'd long for the flip-phone and iPod days...
“When it comes to .. raw kidney beans, I want to be free to form a relationship with a local farmer, look him in the eyes, pet his beans, and then decide if I feel safe to eat the beans from his farm.”
“Hi, we invented a technology that makes idiots more confident. We spent a trillion dollars on it, and it takes more power to run than several countries use in total.”
"also, the technology is championed by idiots, and it champions them in turn; the end result is a self-perpetuating, self-fellating orgy of incompetence which seeks to swallow everything in the stubborn delusional belief that it can BECOME everything"
(Also, like 70-80% recipes online were already useless because they're written by amateurs and good recipe writing means you test them 100 times over until you know they work)
You can use chatgpt to get recipes for simple classics because it just regurgitates the average recipe, but it definitely isn’t going to make anything new or creative.
I'm thinking more of a "Battle Royale" situation. Get as many techbros as possible, toss them into a park, with random weird equipment and exploding collars, and wait for there to be one survivor.
I'm sure he's making money, but he's about to run right into the knitting dot com problem where you insult the subject experts and turn a scary niche demographic of middle-aged women against you.
I kind of don't want my food disrupted? I'm more of a "here's a recipe thats been in our family for generations cooked in a cast iron frying pan thats been seasoning since 1925" kind of person.

Tbh I think there might be a decent cooking show in "I made all your terrible recipes online".
Spec-ops sloperator

What he's doing can be taught to a bot and his career can be replaced.
The cake is a lie
It’s AI slop, so I know there is no intention behind any of it, but it’s still fun to ridicule
"It's unclear how much money Cunningham actually makes from his AI schemes, and how much of his income comes from people paying him to learn how to create their own AI content."
Not just willingness to use genAI, but total blithe confidence that it WILL have the correct answer
Like. Why is everything so evil?
Gambling apps? OHN

Desi folks take their food seriously, and rightly so.
#FuckAi
Are there billions of dollars in recipe books going to sub-optimal recipes?
1 cup flour...
It's called a cup cake
Genius
Repeat for the current Republican party.
How do they mess it up this badly
