You might not adore them so much if thousands of them surrounded you, all cawing raucously as they settled in the trees for blocks around. They congregated thus in my eastern KS home town way back when. I've not seen a really big murder since. I like them now--in moderate numbers--and respect them
Funny crow story: was on a 16-day rafting trip on Colorado River in the Grand Canyon & towards end of trip had unloaded the rafts & setting up camp when I looked up toward where my gear bags were & a few crows were lurking around.
No food was in my gear, so I didn't worry about it until I heard two crows fussing at each other and watched as one took flight out over the river with something shiny in it's beak & dropped it into the water!
I went up to check my gear and at least 6 zippers were pulled open, items were pulled out & I never did figure out what was taken! Just made sure it wasn't the key to my vehicle! Crows are rascals!!
A bowl on top of my compost pile. There is plenty of open space around it to see cats. I suspect the raccoon cleans out anything the birds leave. The little brown birds visit it when the crows aren't around. Bird seed goes in the alley, so leftovers are not a constant source of vicious weeds.
Thanks! I put π₯ on deck rail.
Or on ground. He takes the peanuts, many at a time, to the neighbors birdbath to soak. Neighbor is cool with it π
Bird seed weeds are indeed vicious thatβs for sure. π¦ββ¬
I started putting them on the rail, then realized the metal grate-like deck table gave an easier surface to pick up multiple peanuts.
Then the feral family (long story) moved onto my deck, and I felt it was too stressful for the Jays (& me watching them) and moved peanuts above cat territory.
I have an old plastic food container affixed to my upstairs bathroom windowsill that I put peanuts in for the Scrub Jays, again bc of cats. It only took 3 days for the Jays to figure it out.
I don't know who is more surprised when they fly up & someone is in the bathroom, bird or person.
π
Scrub Jays sit out there and squawk if no π₯. They are the boss! I have one who comes mainly to bathe and squawks while splashing. Takes one peanut for the road.
No cats but there are hawks.
Everything placed so thereβs cover.
I like the crow enthusiasm but all of these look cutified with stubby instead of sharp features. They look like songbirds not old crows. Crows live 10-20years and the are social and intelligent in groups. A "murder" of crows is a real feeling. Yes they are playful but also they are organized.
I don't go very far I have a small radius that I drive in, and I swear I have these three crows that follow me around everywhere I go, every time I see him I say KAW KAW and throw food out to them.
I love our crows we have in our marshy area behind our apartment. They arenβt here all the time but when they drop in and hang out, I just feel like I am in the presence of friends. π π¦ββ¬ everyone else sees them as a noisy pest. Not me!
True story. Today, I went to Walmart, and I park in the βΏοΈ parking, because well, I'm disabled. Sitting on the βΏοΈ sign is a crow. It didn't fly off as I exited my car. I thought it strange but kept walking. As I passed the crow he wolf whistled at me. He did the same when I returned. Made my day! π
a lot of people are scared of crows but I think they are just as amazing as any other birds/animals
I love crows we get them around the fall time here and they just chat away and it's cute lol
cute art btw!
You should be scared of getting crows angry at you thou. They can be wonderful but don't mess with them. It's not just good luck to be kind to crows, it's also good sense.
I don't get how anyone could be scared of crows. It's the same logic as being scared of bats. Bats get rid of mosquitos and other critters that no one likes! And crows are just a delight. I see them out strutting around my yard every so often, and watching them never gets old.
It's nice to hear crows again. Too many of them can turn into a cocafanie of noise. I remember crows blackening the trees & so very very noisy as they settled in for the night. But it's nice to hear them again.
