In other words, changes on the ground, changes to the material reality of voter lives, would cut through the information haze, overcome the information asymmetry.
That was the theory. I heard people involved say it explicitly, more than once.
It failed.

Biden didn’t have the energy to sell his own stuff; Schumer is a caricature.
Meanwhile, Dems are preparing to nominate the next inoffensive law-school stereotype: “Yes! Another attorney - how exciting!”
But it was still a win for lefty goals imo
Biden and Pelosi sided with latter:
you gotta make the case that benefit is being delivered, and that means fighting through the information warfare environment.
I ran a local rural news outlet I founded from 2010 to 2017. we could not make the $ work
ten years ago I was howling about how we desperately need to talk about audience-cultivation and distro problems in journalism
it’s hard not to turn into a crank

Regardless I think doing the right thing- helping all of America is still the right way to govern.
I’m a Daily Beans, Meidas, and Bulwark/ @gtconway.bsky.social @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social listener but know there are others worthy podcasts out there!
Because they've put billions of dollars into it. Over the last (50) years their think tanks have made a heavy investment in ideas and in language.

2. Those media reflecting the owners’ pro-Republican biases
We’ll never have comparable outlets but we can recognize the biases and interpret the reporting accordingly.
The right unifies more (mindless androids at times), and uses the “all or nothing” approach against the left, not each other.
Dems are too busy with other things... like helping and protecting Americans.
Frustrating.
Sooner or later, it's time to take to the barricades.
I have no explanation.
Trump's texts in 2024 were all about 5 words long, often said, "I love you." And he'd give you a good deal on a new MAGA hat.
All it takes is aggressive energy and a relentless willingness to be on the road and accessible.
Local anchor in Dayton isn’t the same as WH correspondents.
Dems talked a lot about the good things they did. The media simply refuses to report that stuff.

I always think about @chrislhayes.bsky.social's great 2004 article about his interactions with "undecided" voters. Many simply can't conceive that their problems could have political solutions.…
The positives though? No dice. It’s depressing.
I'm thinking specifically of how in 2023-ish people reported that they were doing well economically but they thought the economy was bad overall
One way to self-insulate is to shut off the TV instead of tuning it to morning news, but a lot of people replaced their morning news with TikTok pundits.
reality.
of this is that so much of what is in the IRA was not immediately FELT by the average citizen/voter immediately.

Maybe if there were mandatory vacation or maternity leave or paid childcare people would notice. But that all got sanded off into a bill of indirect help when people have high rent and expensive groceries and medical bills.
Not sure that IRA is a great case for what Dave’s saying here. Still very much a toddler!
Oops.
The Neighbor died.
2 months later I talked to my mom and she was complaining about masking, "I don't know anyone who died, it's just not dangerous"
Reality lost.

1. This might’ve worked better if the red tape this country hadn’t delayed so much of it.
And 2. The options weren’t mutually exclusive! They should’ve been touting the heck out of their wins *as well.*
But Biden & his team also devoted far less time to PR than did/does Trump & his. And they went to great pains to describe everything as bipartisan rather than taking full credit.
Plenty of us made this point to elected Dems and pundits but very few listened.
