I remember the show vividly. As a 10 year-old with parents who fought and threatened divorce often, I watched Alice and One Day At A Time with a sense of heaviness. I guess I was subconsciously looking for clues about where we were headed and for what I could expect my life to look like.
OMG I'm watching her right now in Elsbeth and just saw her in something else and was thinking how great it is that her late career seems to be going gangbusters. Had not seen any news about her.
I was 11 years old when I went (not by myself) to see The Mad Show off-Broadway. Linda Lavin was in the cast. The whole thing was brilliant--well, at least to an 11-year old.
Were they good? I have a public food issue. The photos look very clean but someone who really ate there would be a good ask. I wouldn't eat the b & g but probably a salad, I'm on a super low protein diet (sadly).
Heh. So true. I wanted to grow up be a deadpan humor expert like Abe Vigoda. Can you believe that? A kid who wanted to grow up to be like ABE FREAKIN' VIGODA. I must've been out of my mind! 😆
There's probably a good list to be written of shows where the main character gets songs for no reason other than the fact that the actor playing them is a great singer. "Alice" is the alpha of that list. The just-concluded "Somebody Somewhere" totally did that too.
I was just about to mention CARTER COUNTRY myself.
I'm pretty sure that makes President Carter the only US president to have a non-biographical TV series named after him. (As opposed to named after a school or city or something named after a president.)
I see your "Alice" and raise you a Carter Country ( with Victor French). Usually when someone passes at 100, we feel happy for their long life....And I do here. But why do I also feel great sadness?
Oh my god I love that show and was just talking about her the other day because she was supposed to be in the new Hulu series with Matt bomer and Nathan lane and she wasn’t even given an article on her death
Wrote a long reply to your post today about Carter Country, specifically about a guy who played the deputy on that show. An actor named Guich Koock. Yeah, you read that right. And no, I have no idea how to pronounce it.
There was a sitcom Carter Country. It took place in a small southern town with a black cop, white boss and jerkwad mayor. Can't get more Carter then a sitcom based around the changes from his election.
She was a nice lady. Didn’t know her know her but there was a period of time I’d see her around on the regular, and she was always a source of light and kindness.

Don't get me wrong I was a huge Farrah fawcett fan back in the day (I was in my preteens during her heyday so of course I had her poster on my wall) but she was much more replaceable in fact she was replaced just a few years later by Bo Derek in the public consciousness 🤣

Well, these things come in threes.
I remember watching it with my mom in the 80s and her saying it was inspired by Jimmy Carter.
This arguably wasn't the best number in the show, but it's the only one hers I could find.

Yeah...I still remember that one.
Mel's Diner was filmed at the Mel's Diner over on Grand Ave, here in Phoenix. Mel's is still there and still operating!
I loved the Alice show.
Apparently, my husband said, that Mel's Diner has the BEST biscuits and gravy around. So I guess I know where I'm going soon. LOL

Really crazy how great Sandy Cohen's singing voice is considering he's some random ass lawyer.
