The people in upstate eat this shit up because they believe NYC is a lawless hellhole. I know, I am originally from upstate and people still think that way even 20 years later.
Wonder if people are keeping tracks of the statistics of who is stopped. Male/female/nonbinary/Trans. Ethnicity. Because I'm absolutely confident a pattern will emerge.
This calls to mind the folks in my rural town who have all self-checkouts at Walmart refusing to let the lone staff member at the door check their bags. I guess if Walmart deployed the National Guard it might be more effective at compliance rates.
I was wondering about this. Did the mayor ask for this? Did the city council? If they city wanted help, then OK. If not it's just weird - forcing a military occupation of public city space.
This is going to cost the NY taxpayers SO much money when guys who like to wear uniforms and make their job their identity inevitably get abusive with this.
"During a news conference, the governor said the deployment aims to put passengers at ease after a string of high-profile violent crimes in the city’s transit system."

They can sue the shit out of the city.
In the Kingdom of Heaven, we may have the luxury of ideal solutions, but here on Earth, we must always choose the lesser of two evils.
There's not always two, evil solutions.
That's simplistic and childish.
There are solutions that didn't involve suspension of constitutional rights.
There's also The Posse Comitatus Act.
Go sadly troll elsewhere.
