It is truly wild that it is estimated that more than 20 million people died of Covid and the prevailing vibe is that the world overreacted. That is an astonishing toll! More people died of Covid in the US than in the Civil War. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/5-years-after-it-appeared-things-we-know-and-still-dont-know-about-covid

Currently. Still dying.
How long ago this seems: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/19/world/joe-biden-coronavirus-us-deaths.html
These people don't have brains.

Very gregarious type of people.
The USA is still a loose mosaic of "count[r]ies".
Control the narrative at all costs, we can't have anyone questioning what we say...
Vaccination works best at a population level.
We're at like a 15% vaccination rate. Too low.
What’s your point?
There yet has been no conclusive proof of that.
I can guarantee the right would have taken covid seriously if it happened during Obama or Biden’s term. Remember Ebola..
I’ve given up as the CT’s are so far off the rails it’s impossible to speak with them - sad
*society sorta does some of the stuff and the bad is kinda reduced*
“Oh we overreacted when we sorta did some of the stuff.”
Fucking humanity. We are so fucking stupid.
We could have air filtration in shared spaces (offices, hospitals, schools etc). We could mask in crowded places. We could show care for our friends by testing before eating out - especially with vulnerable people.
Subsequent infections made it worse. I’m at the max dose of verapamil now.
If it gets worse I’ll need surgery. People don’t care.
LA County was improving - to the point where they were requiring employers to provide KN95’s or better for employees. That all stopped after Biden’s meeting with governors.
We still had Covid.
Nothing to be learned, no need to change anything, let’s just act like it never happened.
Pandemic revealed an astounding capacity for self-delusion.
I know that's horrible and we shouldn't have needed too, but we should have shown people what it was like in hospitals.
And next time, because there will be a ne time, we should force deniers to dig the fucking graves.

1.) those numbers likely are wildly inflated, with countless people dying of other causes (gunshots, car, accidents, etc.), but are called Covid deaths just because they tested COVID positive when they died 1/
Yes, 20 million is a serious death toll and there was no overreaction, but you can’t just compare using raw numbers.
honestly, I don't care, you do you, COVID is bad.
Now do a percentage of population comparison.
Which is my actual point.
In the United States and Europe alone vaccination had saved, by early last year, almost 5 million lives based on WHO estimates.

Our entire capitalist structure has deliberately minimized COVID because putting human health and well-being first would interfere with the precious economy.
to distract from their own culpability and ineptitude regarding their response/mgt
And it’s quite likely there were well over a million people who died *directly because of it*
Now imagine rolling outbreaks across the US because vaccine rates are so low.
That's just beginning with most infectious disease others will follow.

1860: about 31 million
2010: 308 million
math is hard for those who can't do it

The media plays a huge part in this, largely because of right-wing douchebaggery, but also because there's a certain kind of contrarian centrist that likes to look like they're the smartest, edgiest "freethinker" person in the room.
With how dependent most of the world is on tech, I feel like we'd have gotten our act together sooner 🤷♀️

Not to downplay how deadly the virus was ( I lost loved ones to it) or to say I am anything less than astonished by the flippantly dismissive assessment that we did too much in the face of it.
Inversely, Covid would have had a much lower death rate if it were spreading through a population of 31 mil
More people died from event 2 than did from event 1. But there was 10x more people involved.
I don't think my point negates what she said either. Just that it is a factor worth consideration.
Might not be apples to oranges, but it is comparing mandarin oranges to naval oranges.
People don’t seem to understand how different the threat was before and after we had some immunity.
It showed many don’t care about anyone else , deny science that is undeniable , accept that injecting bleach is ok
This is maybe the WORST of the deplorable shit stain legacy Trumpism /MAGA leave
And I am proud of it
But nobody masks. Y’all talk the talk but now many of you walk the walk?
Get serious.
And I live in a small town. EVERYONE here knows someone who died from it.
@who.int
FOR TRUMP IT WAS OK +THE VIRAL TREATMENT
WAS IT TO ECONOMISED?

SATS-CoV-2 had only 1 strain initially, appeared in 1 single event, was adapted to human, and was H2H transmissible from day #1! #LabLeak
Wondered this during early peaks too... E.g. nobody in my family died, but 5 strangers on my block did.
The UK response wasn't 'very little' and its impact is still felt.
Sweden also has the highest rate of people living on their own in Europe.
They had the longest lockdown of care homes anywhere.
Culture also plays a huge part, Scandi countries do as their governments ask with little noncompliance, a two meter rule is normal, we joke about it.
Italy: over 2 month of TOTAL lockdown (they closed the bloody parks and we were forbidden to go out to run or exercise in the streets!)
Sweden: no lockdown.

We just did it quite terribly.
china studies, we study. that's it.
i think this virus was good at attacking organs or whatever was already broken in a body which would explain why it effected so many in different ways.
#TrumpCovidDeathToll
It’s closer to 20m
#WilfulIgnorance was/is endemic amongst folk who have v good info sources.
My conclusion? They & their immediate loved ones were fairly safe - working from home, getting deliveries, choosing to get vaccinated etc.
more concerned about anti microbial resistance #AMR
Do they feel more at personal risk?
Is AMR a less controversial topic requiring less courage & small "p" political skills to address?
Is it easier for investors to address because some companies will profit?
🤷🏽♂️
At 64, I got Covid for the first time in may. It was a few days discomfort, but the consequences have been two weeks in hospital, three months convalescing, a massive loss of income and ongoing health issues
Today is my first day of work - 4 hours only. Dreading it.
At least I have my hair 🧔♂️
3 months after Trump shut that team down, we had COVID.
But the point about avoidance stands. In the long run, who did they help.
Last time I checked, they don't put people on ventilators for being overweight.
Given the dramatic increase in productivity, 32 h should be the current maximum, but I digress.
Add the constant stress this causes, & that so many jobs... 2/
They want to individualize the blame, though! 🤬

“If *I* didn't suffer, it wasn't *that* bad for anyone across the board”.
And then it all descends into defending that utter lack of empathy – as some sort of a legitimate defence mechanism.
It's vile.
