I've been watching university lectures and science courses instead of CNN or MSNBC, etc.. Geology, paleontology and biology, mostly... I also discovered Chopin's piano music, instead of doomscrolling social media
Yeah, I've managed to resist podcasts. Folks do so much rambling and there's often very little actual good information. An audiobook, on the other hand...
The Hip Hop Museum inducted Nujabes into the hall of fame. I never heard of him. His music has been my soundtrack for a couple months now along with Wic Whitney.
I dropped podcasts during the election and my life is so much better. I also avoid major media channels like Fox News, CNN & MSNBC. Much better mental health.
Yep do both myself, but yeah can see and have always- seen the music thing there though. Anyway have got DMAs- Silver on atm, saw them live bit over two years ago would've been there. In late 2022 in Perth here in 🇦🇺, decent tune but yeah fair enough point there. With just "changing it up" though, cos
And just seeing some of replies here, would just go with podcasts- on the European football really. Yep which should be obvious given LFC dp- means something to me there aha. Otherwise yeah there will always be something in it- with music though
I feel this! I usually listen to an audiobook while taking my daily walk but today I listened to music and it was a lovely, change. A different kind of relaxing.
This struck me. I'm thinking, music is great, but wouldn't it be better to just not listen to THOSE podcasts? I have lots of podcasts that give me nothing but joy. I can recommend some, if you want. Or not, if you don't.
Stay engaged otherwise you will be like the 49% of voters who were either full grievance (MAGA) or uneducated/misinformed voters that drank the water from the cesspools known as X and Facebook!
Music is a lifesaver 🎶 I have a huge playlist of all my favorites that I listen to every night so I can take my mind off of all the bs that's happening.
Just came across some YouTube, love it. Started with new orleans music, then some great Thornley. Big wreck. Then sam Roberts. Then July talk. And Bedouin soundclash then Galactic?
"stop listening to podcasts" says medium diametrically opposite them. "stop microblogging", says podcasts. War between nations of podcast and micriblogging expected by 2040
I find watching entertaining shows on Acorn and Britbox are a good way to decompress. Father Brown, The Chelsea Detective, Good Karma Hospital, The Heart Doctor, Sister Boniface, Miss Fischer's Murders, Cranford, Lark Rise to Candleford, Darling Buds of May... and many more.
I moderated a trade bulletin board. After 9/11 some members described worsening grief/depression. I told them to stop watching/obsessing about it. Our brains are wired to let pain ease.. but not if constantly prodded. Be as kind to your mind as you can. To survive we'll need any surcease we can get.
That helps me, as well. I recently took a road trip and listened to music. All five hours, just like I used to do. I did not feel stressed when I arrived, so I highly recommend it!
I love Ween so much. The Mollusk is one of the great music works of art (maybe especially because of its breadth and style shifts). Thanks for the reminder.
Tell you what would help more stop listening to Democrats and start listening to Republicans that would get rid of a lot of them confusing thoughts going through your head
My radio is permanently tuned now to our local classical.and jazz station. It helped keep me sane during the pandemic, and I've let it continue to do so ever since.
I meditate for ten minutes each morning and picture a world where Trump had a Big Mac induced heart attack eleven years ago and no one has heard anything about him since.
I like to book end my work day with music. Usually have time for one full album each way on my commute. Podcast or audiobook in my ear all day during work.
I did this as well, except for the Ted Danson and sometimes Woody Harrelson one. You should consider doing a music oriented one like that. Inside baseball, but funny. Anyhow... Glad to "see" you again. Cheers. Pun intended.
I used to plug in to Radio4extra and half hear a few ancient plays through the night. Now it’s Radio3U and it’s soothing music and rainfall - much better sleep
I've never stopped doing that. I'm not too much into podcasts, just now and then if something interesting gets my attention. But a music - always, any kind depending on my mood and needs 🎶🎶🎶
Try throwing some nonfiction in the rotation. Yes, reading will always be better for your brain but its STILL just escapism if its only fiction. I like to do non-fic audiobooks in the car or while doing chores and if it was really good then I read it for real after a fiction break to fully absorb it
Bullshit take my dude. Non-Fiction is great, and people should read it. But calling fiction "just" escapism is crap. Fiction allows us insight into the thoughts and emotions of other people, it exposes us to new ideas. It helps us understand ourselves, eachother, and develops empathy.
I’ve whittled down to the Bulwark (both), The New Abnormal (I am loyal to @andylevy.net 😂), Fast Politics, and Democracyish. I’m trying to listen to music on dog walks.

My brain needs it to live now.
I've started disconnecting from the computer in the evening, focusing on actual paper/book reading. I slept really good last night.
Looking does me no good

Thank goodness my neighbors appreciate good music. Whether they know it or not. 😇
If I listen to podcasts it is about music or football (Australian Rules Football).
so i left and went to another coffee shop
Ian Thornley. And his band, not sure if before or after solo @bigwreckd.bsky.social
Music is a true gift and I will play it whenever I can.

And if you’re as old as I am (not TRE45ON old as dirt fossil), you can find greatest hits for about $10 and just listen to hours of great music.
I've got Mutilated Lips on right now.

Either that or classic Motown or some combination seems to really center me on a commute.
