This is going to be an interesting UFA season. Teams with cap space and not many legit stars. Marner will get paid this offseason, just not by the Habs (I hope). McDavid may be available in a year, the Leafs won't tie their hands overpaying for Marner. Maybe the Blackhawks?

How is an R1 of 98% even possible?!

Someone mentioned to me this series reminded them of Luongo in the 2011 Finals, and I had to agree. Good at home, awful on the road...Game 7 started badly and the Canucks never recovered. Feels really familiar.

Wouldn't that just be redundant?

I listened to a CBC segment speaking with Albertans, and many of them spoke about wanting a less socially conservative party, so maybe there's hope for them.

I think part of it is the simplicity. We vote on one thing, on a paper ballot, in pencil. No punching holes. No voting for Prez, Gov, Senator, Congressperson, judge, dog-catcher...My 16-year old kid can work in a polling station and not worry about needing armed guards outside...

Unfortunately, we aren't currently well-positioned to take advantage. Everything from housing and student visas, to research infrastructure and future employment opportunities in STEM has been stagnant or going backwards recently. The time tor reinvest was 5 years ago.

Feels like there was a time when winning A championship was enough to buy you some significant job security. Not anymore.

How people switch back-and-forth between english and french mid-sentence is one of the things I miss most about living in Quebec.

We have a unique opportunity right now to take advantage of the bad research climate in the US today. It will take significant investment, but smart people in the US are virtually begging for an opportunity up here. PP and the Conservatives would squander it, which would be tragic.

I think it's one thing to point out where there are unreasonable roadblocks in the development system, but he often doesn't explain why those roadblocks were put in in the first place. Do we want a system where anything goes, or will we just replace development problems with environmental problems?

I was really disappointed, but not surprised, to hear PP call income tax a penalty people pay for working hard. Our taxes pay for so many of the things we celebrate about our country (social safety net, health care, maternity leave, etc).

I know tons of people in the US, and it's essentially crickets from them about this. I think people care, but the government has done a 'good' job at labeling these people as criminals. Very scary.

It's more than just poaching the faculty. Most of them (at least in the physical sciences) have large research groups and infrastructure that also need to move. And just when we've severely cut the number of student visas available to foreigners.

I know Bourne amended his take on Suzuki, saying he was definitely top-15. I look at a list of top C's, and I see 3-4 that are sure-fire HOFers, none of the rest are clearly better or have more upside. None are captain in the craziest market in the league. Most would wilt. So glad he's our 1C!

Great idea in principle, but funding agencies are stretched, and a recession won't help. Researchers also need grad students, and we've just lowered the number of student visas. I feel like we aren't in a good position to take advantage of this opportunity.

I worked with a man who made the same decision you did, and never once did I think he was a coward. I admired him and often thought I would never have been brave enough to do what he did. Same goes for you.

Some of it maybe, but it's hard to replace HOF players (Chara, Bergeron, Price, Weber) and remain competitive. The Bruins made some bad moves, but they also finally got old.

1. The pass he made on the Caulfield goal was sublime.
2. I had to double check to see that it wasn't a typo...but he only has 6 penalty minutes this season! How many other defensively responsible, first line centers can say that? The kid is a gift.

Hey, I love what Evans brings, and every team needs a 3/4C who can win faceoffs and play on the PK. They're not easy to find, and I hope they re-sign him. Just don't want to force him into the 2C role. I hope you're right about the other optoins.

Doesn't it feel like center has been an issue with the Habs FOREVER? After Evans (who's a 3C at best), who's the last center they drafted/developed themselves? Say what you will about Bergevin, but the Suzuki trade was a miracle.

As much as I like Evans, and I respect what Armia and Dvorak bring, the Habs have to start making room for some of their prospects. I don't think they can properly develop players in Laval if there's a logjam there. One or more of those guys will need to be moved.

I used to think that it was single issue 'Christians' and their anti-abortion agenda that drew them to him, but I'm not so sure now. It's more than that. These people have opposed every progressive movement for generations now. He's their avatar for their own hateful beliefs.

Lemieux made it look so easy, people took his exploits for granted, even thought he wasn't trying very hard. Still, in a sport that's over 100 years old, it's no slight to think of him as one of the top 3 players ever. He and Orr are great 'What if?' players.

I think I saw someone say this was the greatest live performance ever. It's this type of hyperbole that may drive engagement, but is ridiculous. Why can't we just enjoy the performance without having to rank it and argue about it?
