Politics in 2007 was also absolutely awful: extremely reactionary, endless crackdowns, war and cruelty, a pretty hopeless vista. It just wasn’t as dumb and insulting as it is now, because we hadn’t had two decades of frantically trying to prop 2007 up forever, at any cost.
