California’s budget priorities are failing our streets. Governor Newsom’s May Revise doesn’t restore a single dollar to the Active Transportation Program — even after last year’s $400M cut left just 13 projects funded statewide. www.calbike.org/californias-...

Bike to Wherever Day is upon us! Thanks to @bikeeastbay.bsky.social for being here at Richmond BART Station! Find your local station at the link and get snacks and swag! www.bayareabiketowork.com/event-inform...

Tomorrow is Bike to Wherever Day! 🚴🚴🚴 Ride your bike – or a rental from a bike share station – to work, on errands, to take kids to school, to see family or friends, or for simple fun. Come join us! Community Message: berkeleyca.gov/commu...

It’s Bike Month. Riding matters. But action matters more. ✅ Support AB 954 for bike highways ✅ Pass AB 891 to fix deadly roads ✅ Boost ATP funding ✅ Call Buffy Wicks Do all 4. Claim your CalBike Champion sticker. www.calbike.org/bike-month

The Bay Bridge has never truly connected the Bay—at least not for those of us walking or biking. That can change. Our friends at @bikeeastbay.bsky.social are pushing for the completion of the Bay Skyway: a 2-mile path linking the East Bay to downtown San Francisco.

NYC’s congestion pricing is a policy miracle: Less traffic, less noise, faster transit, more business sales, more transit revenue. And it hasn’t produced the negative effects outside the cordon zone we were afraid of. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Great to see mutual aid among agencies when problems happen. "Caltrain will honor valid BART tickets and passes until further notice" standardizing regional fares was recommended in region's fare policy vision - the study showed it would increase ridership - would be good to do this all the time.

Sign this @bikeeastbay.bsky.social petition in support of a bike/walk Bay Bridge crossing all the way from the East Bay to SF. Transportation resiliency means access for everyone 24/7 secure.everyaction.com/upUKn61UNk2J...

Ty Whitehead was thrown from his bike by a pothole on Skyline Blvd. He spent two weeks in a coma. Oakland said it wasn’t their fault.

Thank you to the Fremont city council members for adopting the city’s new bike/walk plan unanimously tonight, & to @kendratoysaround.bsky.social, Bike Fremont, & everyone else who showed up to make great comments in support! Happy #BikeMonth!

Mobility is a right—so why is it denied to so many? For immigrants and refugees in California, simply walking to the bus stop or riding a bike to work can carry outsized risks: racial profiling, over-policing, and the constant threat of detention. (A brief thread)

Join CalBike this Bike Month—and win! Every Friday in May, we’re raffling off CalBike gear: shirts, socks, Thousand helmets, and a BayRide registration. When you become a monthly member, you’re entered into every drawing—starting the moment you join. www.calbike.org/join

A die-in at City Hall to protest transportation cuts highlights how an underfunded department can't deliver both "car-free" games and "zero death" streets — any guesses which one they're going to choose

In “California Bicycle Coalition,” the key word is coalition. This bike month, rise up for safer streets: support AB 954, AB 891 & ATP funding. Be the coalition, be a bike champion: www.calbike.org/bike-month

In addition to transit and bike+transit directions, I’ve become totally obsessed with .using just biking directions on @transit.app. The stress level indicators on routing are great. And you can customize walking and riding speeds. Why did I mess with Google maps for so long?

Tomorrow w/ @heyimwalkinghere.bsky.social and SAFE - Demand that LA stop their dangerous budget cuts by showing up for our die-in. 4/30 6 PM LA City Hall Steps bit.ly/4lN7BQH

California’s E-Bike Incentive Project reopens this evening with a streamlined process and 1,000 vouchers available. Enter the online waiting room between 5–6 PM; at 6, spots will be randomized no need to click fast, just be present. For more info: www.calbike.org/what-to-know...

Oakland protected bikeway construction April 2025 roundup. The Fruitvale Ave Alameda Ave to E 12th) raised protected bikeway is looking good. Constant remains but the bikeway & protected intersection at E 12th are now mostly rideable.

🚨 New Data Analysis: San Francisco's Slow Streets have reduced vehicle crashes by 61% over the past 2 years compared to a 5% increase citywide AND they've had a trivial impact on emergency response times, despite the fire department vehemently opposing them. www.kqed.org/news/1202844...

I’m jealous of all who went 2 the @thewaroncars.bsky.social event last night at The Cedar.I’ve never been more certain of the belief that any humane way forward as a country must involve centering our communities around people-powered human movement and public transit instead of privately owned cars

Little hands/quick-builds.

Four CalBike backed bills just passed their committee and they’re now heading to appropriations. Each one is about making our transportation system safer, fairer, and more responsive to real-world risks.

New bike lanes being installed in #DTLA Arts District - on Mateo and on Santa Fe - including some parking-protected sections on Santa Fe. Connections to 6th St Bridge (& via Santa Fe to Union Station)

AB 612 boosts fire dept veto power—but ex-firefighter Mike Wilson says prevention saves lives too. Fire crews should help build safer streets, not just respond after tragedy strikes. www.calbike.org/building-an-...

210 bikeways are coming in 2026 from Caltrans. But 75% are Class II—just paint next to traffic. Protected lanes save lives. We need infrastructure that meets the moment.

Today, @sfmta.com Board of Directors *unanimously* approved the Oak Street Quick-Build. This crucial east-west connector will immediately improve the safety along the Panhandle for everyone — bikers and non-bikers alike. Thanks to our members and advocates for supporting it vocally for over a year!

Slow down drivers with this one weird trick: Make them terrified of scratching their cars.

Isla Vista is built for walking, but when cars park too close to corners, lives are at risk. AB 413 bans this—but without enforcement, visibility vanishes. Safety laws only work if we apply them. Based on a letter to the Santa Barbara Independent: www.independent.com/2025/04/02/n...
