Imagine having the most powerful job in the world and still being desperate for attention by any means necessary.

As federal research grants continue to be frozen, and NIH staff is being gutted, please note this study was funded by federal research grants, including from NIH. If they continue with staff cuts, and continue to freeze new awards, this is just one example of what we lose.

This whole Colombia situation reminds me of this obscure subplot from Clear and Present Danger. *Willem Defoe smirk* “Are you a coffee drinker, Dr Ryan?” *Harrison Ford shy grin* “Coffee? Yeah, I like coffee.” “Try the Lindo brand.” “Lindo, huh?” “I think you’ll like it.”

The older I get, the more I appreciate South Park’s depiction of Mel Gibson as a crazed right winger with bizarre sexual fetishes (but who nonetheless made some good movies back in the day).

It really is such masculine energy to blame things on a woman who no longer works at the company www.nytimes.com/2025/01/16/u...

Voters: “Make our groceries and gas cheaper” Trump:

The Hegseth hearing is doing one thing incredibly well: it’s establishing that when his leadership at DoD fails, it’ll be clear that GOP Senators knew, excused it, and they own it. Serious concerns about experience & judgment are literally being laughed off.

And here it is…. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

I don't think I have ever seem a norm go from widely accepted to completely irrelevant as quickly as the importance of minimizing conflicts of interests

Donald Trump would have been convicted in his election case if his re-election had not made a trial impossible, the special counsel report said.

Blue Origin New Glenn rocket launch attempt in about half an hour -- streaming on their YouTube

Trump could easily stay quiet on these fires until he is President, but he is so weak he needs a villan and needs to be the victim. Never have I seen a whinier child in my life.

The owner of the @latimes.com re-posts a satire headline… while questioning @GavinNewsom’s competence 🤨 Speaking of competence — Who’s gonna tell him what the Babylon Bee is?

Someone said the reason the child tax credit expansion to fight child poverty is dead is because the GOP didn't want to vote for a Ukraine bill. And I couldn't help but think...isn't the reason you're supposed to be opposing Ukraine aid that we should instead help Americans on, e.g., child poverty?

Apparently while on Rogan, Zuck dunked on Apple for not inventing anything the last twenty years since the iPhone and just coasting on cash from that ever since. Buddy, Meta sure isn't doing any better.

😂😂😂 Well I guess this solves the mystery of whether he’s actually an uber elite pwnlord or just paying people to play his characters so he can look cool in front of other games. Sad.

Hoping to see an emergency motion from Jack Smith to the 11th circuit asking them to negate Cannon’s ruling as it pertains to the DC case because that’s not her (or their) jurisdiction.

Despite never wanting to write about this again, I have written about whether or not we should take Trump's rhetoric around things like using military force against Greenland seriously, even if the ideas aren't presented seriously. othermeans.io/p/everything...

Looks like there is only one person interested in suppressing the truth, and it’s not the Jan 6 committee

This has been a hell of a day for the future of America as a liberal democracy between this stuff, North Carolina’s Supreme Court stealing an election, and Trump threatening to invade whichever countries would mildly improve our GDP.

Does anyone have a contact for Ann ? Would love to discuss with her the possibility of partnering with her to publish her cartoons exclusively on @bluesky

The problems at WaPo are twofold. First, new publisher Will Lewis is in an untenable position. His first major act as publisher was to mislead (lie?) to the public about the process of the Kamala Harris editorial getting spiked.

Jan 6th was a violent attack on our country, not a “day of love.” The truth is well documented, witnessed by dozens of GOP officials, it’s up to us to defend it against the relentless lies. My latest: adamkinzinger.substack.com/p/defending-...

THREAD: In 2023, I received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of 1000s of secret files. It came from a vigilante with a tumultuous past, who'd conducted a years-long undercover operation. He didn’t tell the FBI or his family. He only told me.

I think journalists, policymakers and good govt types are struggling to understand DOGE because their mental model is that it is a government reform commission, operating like previous ones. Maybe. But it might be better to start thinking about it as a hostile takeover of the govt by oligarchs.

Today libertarians are praising the russian government for *checks notes* raiding gay clubs in moscow. Libertarians remain a conceptual mystery to me and I honestly prefer it that way

Every year, I compile a list of my favorite tech projects, and honor them in a column called the Good Tech Awards. This year, I was excited to feature LLMs for genomics, AI brain mapping, open-source maintainers, the NASA heroes who saved Voyager 1, and more. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/30/t...

The greatest failure of the Biden admiration was not taking videos of Abrams and Bradley’s kicking ass and blasting it onto every media platform possible all the time:
