I’m still a bit bitter that my dog has an EU passport and I don’t…

On your metrication point, it would be ideal to change the default urban limit to 20mph and metricate at the same time, so that none of the ‘30’ signs would have to be changed.

Saving this on my phone because “Put the nestling back in the nest” is the only bit I’m going to remember.

One day, Keir Starmer will need to reflect on how he got to today's speech from this in 2020. How can he go from saying "the whole United Kingdom is better because of immigration" to today's speech?

I’m sure there are at least a handful of solar installations on warehouse roofs that the general public doesn’t know about because they can’t be seen from ground level.

I agree. It’s absurd that if you improve a street by banning parking, you have to deface it with double yellow lines.

Pedalo On Parliament would be fun but I doubt you’d fit 3000 of them in those wee paddling pools in front of the parliament.

I’ve seen the term ‘wheeling’ used a lot but this is the first time I’ve ever seen it defined. It’s good to have a codified definition because I feel like this isn’t yet a term that you can just use and expect it to be understood.

Finally: your regular reminder that training for cyclists is fine, but unless you have obviously safe cycling infrastructure it's a bit like training kids to test their lunches for listeria because the school cooks can't be arsed with hygiene; basically a distraction from the actual problem.

A baguette?! That filler belongs between the cheapest, whitest bread money can buy.

Imagine getting ID’d buying alcohol as a young person and the only ID you’ve got is your digital national ID and you’re like, fine, just let me generate a check code…

I’d say “a saving” (singular), or “savings” (plural). Not saying “a savings” is necessarily wrong from an American perspective, but it _sounds_ wrong.

I’m convinced that his English brain was as annoyed at the bad American grammar as anything else.

What he _means_ is that revenues from tariffs, ultimately paid for by ordinary Americans, will be used to finance tax cuts for the rich.

Oh, so to be clear, the left pedal in your photo is the footbrake. This is how the UK Highway Code refers to that pedal. You mentioned an EV and I thought it was taking one-pedal driving to an extreme.

Please post a picture of your driver-side footwell because I want to see this.

There’s some virtue in doing the right thing without being forced to.

Highway Code rule 114 tells you to deactivate them by releasing the foot brake in exactly the scenario where you’d use auto hold. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/general-rules-techniques-and-advice-for-all-drivers-and-riders-103-to-158

I stopped using auto hold when I learned that it kept the brake lights on. It’s an optional feature.

I got to the zoo part and started thinking about whether the animals could smell you, which could potentially be dangerous… …and then I realised that you could fart on the despatch box and the PM and LotO would blame it on each other

Do you think this would require a revaluation, or would we continue to use the notional value of properties as of 1991 like we do with council tax?

I ended up responding to the consultation on this, on the basis that I live in the north of Scotland and my parents live in the Borders, so there’s a good chance that I’d use this route as a driver (as I have many times before). So they have at least one pro-cycling response from a driver.

Not sure about the rest, but the seed vault apparently cost around 2.4 million kr to maintain in 2019. How much does Boris Johnson have to pay in child support again?

You know what else is “a lifeline for so many people”? Personal independence payments. Applying for the right to park on the street outside your home should be no easier than applying for PIP.

I wonder how many of those who signed the petition also took the effort to respond to the consultation? According to the council, “Any decisions around active travel improvements along parts of the A7 will be informed by the outcome of the consultation” i.e. the petition will be mostly ignored.

“Instead of reducing capacity by introducing cycle lanes” It’s 2-lane single carriageway for most of its length, and it looks like the only reduction in capacity is to redesignate a crawler lane as a bus lane. So unless they’re going to turn it into a single track road with passing places…

I woke up to the disappointing realisation that things have in fact not gotten any better, and the fact that this comes as no surprise to me somehow makes it worse.

I’d love to see some UK politicians on this but I think you’d have to extend it leftwards to accommodate Liz Truss.
