Do you mean Ruth Bader Ginsberg during Obama's second term? Justice Sotomayor is only 70 years old and was in her 60s during the Biden Admin. She has no health problems that are life-threatening, so why should she have retired?

It's an odd take to blame a prior administration, whether it was Republican or Democrat. Which prior administration would have foreseen this behavior. Also, since the rule of law is ignored, what difference would it have made?

The poor woman was in such a stressful & coercive situation, is it surprising? What loving mother would agree to leave her children with her jailers/detainers rather than taking them with her? To suggest her agreement defends their actions is just so wrong.

There is nothing such as a flawless hero, and Garcia isn't a hero, nor being promoted as one. nlNor is anyone even vaguely suggesting DV is okay. We are insisting that the rule of law and due process be followed. Every deserves their day in court, due process, and that the rule of law be followed.

It doesn't work in reverse to that extent. Privilege must be waived by the client. If you're the client, you have a weaker defense because you can (but aren't required to) show a lawyer's communications to whomever you wish. It's the lawyer who must maintain confidentiality; no wiggle room.

Universities are being supportive, but they can't reverse the terminations.
comment in response to post
No, universities can't. In some cases, the State Department also revoked the visa. The biggest issue is the lack of notice; it's creating a lot of stress and panic, especially with students who are graduating this year.

Thank you for writing this. I've also wondered why and when "entitlement" became defined as "non-entitlement."

The advice from ISSS wasn't incorrect. www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou... "Some circumstances require revocation of a nonimmigrant student’s visa while the nonimmigrant is in the United States and in status. Visa revocation is not, in itself, a cause for termination of the student’s SEVIS record."

Yes there are b/c the IRS, as a rule, never shares tax filing info with DHS. The IRS’ focus in on getting tax payments, even from illegal or criminal activities. People unlawfully present wont file tax returns if they know the IRS will report them to DHS, so the IRS never reports.

Theres nothing odd about a 6 year timeline. If you receive permanent residence (green card) due to marriage to a US citizen, you can apply for US citizenship after being a permanent resident for 3 years. The usual wait time is 5 years. Spouses of US citizens use a fast track.

It would be helpful, wise, and professional if we - including the media - stop adding which administration appointed the judge. I can’t imagine that judges don’t find this insulting. This type of labeling questions the judge’s impartial & legal integrity solely b/c of who appointed them.

If you invite someone into your home & say they can stay as long as they don’t weigh in on family decisions (vote) or commit any crimes in the home, are they still a guest? Guests usually stay for a limited duration of time and then leave, but this person isn’t expected to leave.

NPR, it’s not difficult for you, as a respected news source, to determine exactly when these flights occurred. At least hold your story until you do, or revise it to “we are checking the timeline.” Though, the flights were ordered to turn around and didn’t; that’s the other significant issue.

I do get your point. He had a doctorate, so I think it’d be better to call him Dr. Warnock, when discussing his political actions, but it’s not a hill worth dying on.

Given his age, he is likely already grey or greying. He won’t have access to hair and beard dye in prison.

What I’d like to know is why Canada denied admission. It’s very, very odd for Canada to deny admission to a UK citizen. IMHO, that’s the bigger story & the most “confounding factor.”
comment in response to post
This is an odd take. Let’s say Obama rolled it back; does that mean Trump or another president couldn’t roll it out again? Geez. The need to always blame Obama… SMH.

1/ UK citizens don't need a visa to enter Canada. The need to register in eTA if flying into Canada but only a valid UK passport if entering by land or sea. We need clarity on why she was refused entry because, with all due respect to her father, what he said doesn't make sense.

The ABA is a national, voluntary legal organization. It does not license attorneys. State Supreme courts do that. Complaints about an attorney are sent to the state bar where the attorney is licensed.

IKR. First people complain that they should attend and the out. Then when they happens, they complain and say they should have never attended. The GOP/MAGA must be having fun on the other site posting all the self-abuse & insults folks are hurling at Dems. Leopards eating faces…

2/ You may lash out inappropriately because the erasure is constant & unrelenting. If you’re not bothered by the existence trans identity, even if you don’t care for, understand, or believe it, as long as it is not causing harm to anyone, just leave it. Civility matters in a democracy.

1/ Thx for explained what you meant by “killing yourself.” That’s a harsh response & it’s unfortunate that social media fosters this. Perhaps step outside your perspective. If people questioned your sexual/gender identity & your right to have it acknowledged you’d be confused, insulted, distressed.
comment in response to post
2/ Is it ok to erase the 1% solely b/c you don't understand their identity? Is identity only legitimate if you understand it? You & others may be uncomfortable with trans identity for religious or social reasons, but isn't it fairer to acknowledge this than insisting trans people disappear?
comment in response to post
1/ Trans-advocacy is hysterical & off-putting? Doesn't that suggest the "lot of people" are transphobic? Why do you describe trans advocacy as "hysteria" but transphobia as merely "off-putting"?
comment in response to post
I’m trying to understand your position. By “normal people” do you mean non-trans people? Also what new medical treatments are you referring to? The ones that fall under the trans care umbrella? BTW: the Nazis also marginalized & killed trans people. Erasure of a population can take many forms.

2/: Also, birthright citizenship focuses on the person born in USA, not the immigration status of the parents; the only exception being if the parents have immunities from US jurisdiction that extend to their children born in the USA (e.g., diplomatic immunities).
comment in response to post
Both common law & legal analysis are wrong. Arguing that illegal aliens are not subject to the jurisdiction of the USA b/c their illegal entry = entry w/o amity (i.e., in friendship & a desire to obey US laws) is a stretch. Illegal entry has never extended immunities similar to diplomatic ones.

Retirement & other benefits may only be available w/ resignation, but not if one is fired. The current DOJ leadership has made clear they want unquestioned obedience, so they will fire these AUSA's & hire sycophants. It's best to control how you leave: dignified resignation vs. undignified firing.
