Based on the post, it sounds like these folks were dicks, and so the poster made a post and commented on it. Doesn't seem weird to me.

It's super weird that some rando has decided that someone asking *you* how long it took to do your 300-mile ride was actually asking *them* - the rando - how long it takes a roadie to ride on fast, flat pavement.

What did the Better Business Bureau do to deserve this?

Surely those 2000 troops will be arresting the people who are there to hire undocumented laborers, right????

It’s a game of optics. People like Trump, Bannon, Miller, etc know this. We need to start playing it, and we need to get very good at it, very fast.

I love this process! It makes a person so much more likely to actually DO it! (But it probably requires carb loading, for all the effort.)

I do love a chunky magenta shoe, though

I love this so much.

Feels like Red State or Red County Dems could make plenty of inroads by sponsoring evening classes and workshops to let people dip their toes into tinkering. Basic welding? Small engine repair? Intro to WTF Is Wrong With My Mower? I'd go in a heartbeat, and I'm a Blue State Dem in a Blue metro!

Whenever I hear what Blue Dog Dems stand for, I want to give them money, but whenever I hear them talk, I die a little inside. Can we get a Fix Your Shit platform, where we promote durable goods and repairing instead of replacing? Or a Make Stuff platform, where trade skills are respected?

Hello, 911? Matt Yglesias said another thing and now my eyeballs are stuck looking at the back of my skull. I think this is the big one.

Reminds me of these scant bits from @himself.bsky.social excerpted in today's newsletter: "Their incompetence and their boasts are costly signals that they can be relied on... Boasting about incompetence is signaling that you can be trusted to be corrupt." www.programmablemutter.com/p/elon-musk-...

I inadvertently got my IQ when having an ADHD screening. It was surprising, and so I decided to go to a smart-person meeting, to see what it'd be all about. I did not return. I will not go again. That was terrible.

Pastor Ingrid is fearless. I think she always has been.
comment in response to post
For context: This is Pastor Ingrid, whose church is just a block from the burned-out husk of the MPD Third Precinct. She and her congregation were the architects of miracles in 2020. She lives what she believes in a very real way. www.christiancentury.org/article/inte...

I'm pretty sure this is one of the most astute things I've read in many many many months. It is SO GOOD.

The number of totally weirdo fights I've gotten into with people *on my side* has disabused me of the notion that I know anything about humans anymore. Which is probably for the best.

it’s a HUUUGE problem that ICE and their Gestapo tactics have created such a chasm of distrust and fear that legitimate search warrants are now circuses of cosplay and displays of unnecessary force. It’s a problem for everyone and it’s a fucking travesty.

If you burn down a forest, you don't miss out on lumber for just that season. You have to replant all the trees, nurture them, and wait for them to grow. The science and research budget cuts happening now are wanton, senseless arson. Recovery, if it ever happens, will take generations.

But like, aren't they both true? And wouldn't it be better to stop raising livestock in deserts? And maybe the Saudis shouldn't be sucking up Arizona's ground water to feed water-intensive crops that aren't legal in their country, because they're too water-intensive? www.agdaily.com/crops/arizon...

GO GO GO DO IT MAD IT'S STILL WORTH IT

The most powerful thing I learned from running was that I could do it even when I didn't want to - and even if I ran mad, I was still getting stronger. SPITE STRENGTH

The extent to which this man will coif and pose, to craft himself into someone visually appealing to the Type Of Dude who seeks his particular brand of fart-sniffing, is remarkable. Like, he can't just look like himself. He needs to look like Neil Gaiman's weird cousin in order to have clout.

I thought the first three were excellent, but yes. It just keeps getting better.

And thank goodness they did. Them backing down was the *right thing* to do. (Well, the MOST right thing to do would have been to not fucking show up. The second right thing is to realize you're wrong, this is bad, and get out.) I don't mock them for doing so, I'm very, very happy they did.

I can't even be mad. This is amazing. Just... wow.

FOR REAL. His "headshot" that got used on whatever NY Times podcast that talked about him was fucking hysterical. Doughy middle-aged guy meets edgelord wet dream and results in ??? Because he clearly knows that his appearance is NOT sufficient to get the kinds of followers he craves.

hey the fact that you can't imagine a near future where humans no longer need oxygen is a you-problem (is probably what these people somehow think)

I, a fat lady on a gravel bike, once got bellowed at by some lycra-clad dude on a road bike who'd blown by me a mile prior, then detoured off the bike trail and ended up behind me again later. Yelled that it wasn't fair that I took a shortcut. Like, buddy, who even are you?? I'm just toodlin'.
