Can confirm. Was just on Nora Bernard from 5-5:30pm, and Good Robot was busy, and the (outside the door) line-up at DeeDee's was more than 20 people.

My understanding is that tactile strips are designed for canes, but grade separation is needed for guide dogs.

Oh, interesting! I wonder if it’s the longer wheelbase, or something else that prevents it from being counted!

We ended up doing both: link and embed, much like the HCC blog post did. But in this case, the document was the PDF slides of our presentation to TSC, and another one of our 2024 season summary, which was initially emailed as a PDF. Both contain images & text, so not ideal to completely reformat.

We recently had this issue with some stuff on the Kidical Mass website, and it turns out it is nearly impossible to embed a PDF in a way that works for all mobile web browsers. Safari was the biggest issue for us. These were things that probably need to be PDFs though, and not just text.

The little concrete islands must have been jammed!

This is a brand new bike for the youngest, and she has struggled to use the twist-shifter. It all clicked for her this morning and clearly made everyone’s day (yours and mine included).

Mine too. Dad got to school and said “man, bikes are just so awesome”.

I know this family. They were en-route to our bike bus, but arrived a bit late. Dad recounted the ride to me when they arrived. So proud of that little this morning!

It seems counter-intuitive to go further North before heading West, but that’s how it works if you don’t want to take North St westbound. I certainly don’t!

We used to do Barrington Greenway to Nora Bernard, to the Common. But I haven’t been that way in ages due to the Cogswell construction. Another alternative is Devonshire to Vincent to Russell to Isleville to Almon.

Those clear plastic chairs are giving me port window vibes, like on a boat, and making me slightly sea sick.

You burn out. When all you really wanted was to ride your bike to get around.

My 45 minute bus commute became 20 minutes on my bike. I never had the intention of becoming so involved in the bike activism space…but when you make the decision to ride your bike as your main method of transportation (for environmental, health, financial, or speed reasons), you’re forced to.

Ha! I wonder if they were unable to sell then, and are trying again now?!

The 2 year old photo with PRIMAL Kitchen in the ground floor retail space is definitely a choice for that aesthetic.

I have discovered that it takes a certain volume of flowers to keep them in place over the bumps!

My feedback is sent. If anyone wants to read it to help craft their own letter, send me a DM.

Thanks Ben. I am going to be sending in some feedback, as an HCC member. This absolutely looks like it is endorsed by HCC.

I am equal parts 🎉 and 😬.
Love the idea of protection, hate how narrow they make it.

I hadn’t encountered him in a bike context until this. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by the essay.

I am contemplating another order from the Etsy shop because they make great gifts, and it’s cheaper (per item) when you buy 4. So, if you want one of these, let me know?

I'm actually immensely disappointed that his bike factory never got off the ground. I'd definitely own the Halifax version of an omafiets: an 11 or 14 speed internal hub with 29 inch wheels and upright geometry. Sounds dreamy to me.

Thank you both for the late night bicycle boondoggle rage.

If this essay makes it to Halifax Cycle Chat and the "shop mechanic" weighs in, it's gonna get even more interesting.

You can't make this stuff up. Oh wait, maybe you can?!

Yep. And he gave (*sold*) his business to the shop mechanic (*business partner*) because of the impending bike lanes?!

Also, I totally skipped over his whole waxing poetic about bikes when I read earlier, and wow...there's some history about my LBS I was unaware of in there.

"This week, the city quietly released a Friday before the cottage update on the Halifax Bike Lane Network Cost."
But that doc has been on the city's website with the TSC docs since Tuesday, and TSC meets on Thursday afternoons, so - maybe you should have been paying more attention JWC?!?!?!

Change is hard, generally. I think many drivers see changes to increase cycling as a compromise to either safety or efficiency. The assumption being that the current road designs were crafted for both safety and [car] efficiency.
It takes an open mind to see these changes as a both/and.

I also pay through the bank, and still got a letter. I wonder if the breach happened before you were customers?

The city has over promised and under delivered, and complaining about that is a convenient way to hide your anti-bike sentiment. If they’d done it well and on time, we’d see far less of this 💩.

That blog by JWC is a predictable response to the city’s failures: he’s not wrong that what they’ve built isn’t what they said they would. I don’t know who Halifax is building their infrastructure for, but it’s not AAA.
