On March 10, 1965, nearly 100 protesters were arrested and assaulted by U.S. Marshals outside the Los Angeles Federal Building as they demanded federal officials crack down on law enforcement who had brutalized civil rights protesters in Selma, Alabama.

this piece was originally up at this same location during the 92 riots....

knowing this city as annoyingly well as i do, i feel the need to point out that this building is one block from the plaza where japanese americans were rounded up in 1942.

BREAKING The President of California’s largest union has been detained during an ICE raid.

It took just 15 years to get from Citizens United to this

Elon threatening to just leave people on the ISS is making a pretty good case for why you nationalize your space program!

Oh no it would be terrible if all this led to a normalization of nationalizing monopolies and reversing the disastrous era of privatization. Please don’t do that. That would trigger the Left so bad. Please. I beg you. We would be triggered so, so hard. Like the most triggered.

This seems like a great day to remind Bluesky that Stephen Miller lived four doors down from me freshman year And our student council person asked him (and everyone) to sign a birthday card for our dorm’s janitor And he threw a tantrum and wrote an op-ed about not socializing with “the help.”

It took national outcry, but it worked.

In America, every day is the third of June. On "Ode to Billie Joe": sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/searching-...

Anyone who’s read incredible @sarahkendzior.bsky.social's "They Knew"—especially the chapter “Epstein Wasn’t the First”—is laughing at Musk right now. We knew. They knew. Everyone knew. At this point, it’s not the knowing that’s noteworthy.

Well this couldn’t have come at a better time www.bbc.com/news/article...

What of the smoldering husks of the countless departments and agencies both of these homicidal narcissists leave in their wake?

SCOOP @motherjones.com: Republicans want to ban pets from domestic violence shelters through a proposal in the budget Advocates say the program is small but critical: “Survivors won’t leave, they can’t leave [abusers], if they’re going to leave their pets behind" www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The craziest thing about this fight between Trump and Elon Musk is that Republicans are trying to take away health care from 16 million people to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.

IF YOU’RE IN LINE TO WATCH MUSK AND TRUMP NUKE EACH OTHER LIKE TWO FLAMING ZEPPELINS COLLIDING OVER A WALMART PARKING LOT — STAY IN LINE. LAUGHING AT THIS CLOWN SHOW IS YOUR CIVIC DUTY.

Hear me out. In a better world we wouldn’t have to watch fascist billionaires get into pissy fights or be pressured to side between a Nazi oligarch and a pedophile president. In a better world these people would be in prison or kept from seizing power and hoarding resources.

I'm sorry, as much as I am enjoying this spat, how can you take seriously someone who spent 100s of millions of dollars electing Trump, then went to work for Trump, left government just days ago praising Trump, and is now calling for Trump's impeachment. Just unserious people.

Still jarring to see it in print. @axios.com

It says a lot about where we’re at in this country that a beloved voice actor was murdered by his homophobic neighbor and every headline is still running passive defense for his killer, doing everything not to call this hate crime what it was. These are scary times. RIP to Jonathan Joss.

The modern condition of waking up to horrible news from all over the world and just having to shove that all back down and get on with your silly little job 😞

This statement from Jonathan Joss's husband is heart breaking. No, headline writers, he wasn't "killed in an argument with a neighbor." He was *deliberately murdered* for being gay right after his dog was decapitated. Bet the murderer calls himself a "Christian." THIS is why Pride is important.

The news reports right now are mentioning just that Jonathan Joss was shot and killed "after an argument with a neighbour." The truth is much much worse.

thanks to Musk we are on the path to 25 million excess deaths abroad because of US aid cut off. 25 million. 4 holocausts plus. unbelievably horrific...and mostly greeted with a shrug.

The relationship that the Jewish community has to the State of Israel is more fraught than people outside our community know.

America should have voted for Hillary and Kamala.

Just going to put it out there that I don’t think a gunman going to a Jewish event at a Jewish museum is asking people “hello are you Jewish” before shooting them and also I don’t think the fact that they might not be Jewish reduces the antisemitism inherent in the act

Hard not to notice that ICE isn't breaking up drug rings or gangs (because we would ABSOLUTELY hear about it if they were), but instead are dressing up like bank robbers and doing the laziest shit possible, like hanging out at immigration court or grabbing people for busted taillights. Worthless

this is not the fault of disabled / at risk people at all and i will do my best to get boosted and take precautions, but on a human level, im so fucking sick and tired of covid.

If you are “gleeful” because fascists are destroying the country so fundamentally it may never recover because it may help you win elections, even though you do nothing to help those in the most need you are not a party that anyone should have anything to do with. Corporate democrats🤝fascists

It is always worth noting that even if you don’t care about people being able to live - and you should - it is better for the stability of society as a whole to not have a huge population of desperate, starving and resentful people.

A story about why Democrats are losers, in four parts.

There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university. University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.

In case anyone needs to hear this, authoritarianism constantly shifts narratives and understandings, creating new opportunities to question laws and norms and things like birthright citizenship. Pay attention to which people accept these shifts, who engage in the ensuing debate. Collaborators.

A lot of people, including in my hometown, just had their lives destroyed by a horrific storm. Remember when the media and politicians talk about how “strong” and “resilient” these communities are that they’re saying they don’t need that much help. It’s one of Neoliberalism’s most insidious tricks.
