sure, putting chapters on VODs and uploading to sendou.ink/vods helps, but as a casual Smash watcher, nothing beats just finding a match already cut up for me via a quick YT search (where I don't even need to know tournament orgs and/or names)!

I genuinely think they're a mid-level caliber team if they just play in more tournaments and get the results they need

also What the Fuzz?? had bad hardware luck today (net + controller issues), I genuinely think they would've made alpha if those things didn't happen so I am fine with that pred

for it, you can learn a lot from teams better than you

my teammates), I probably wouldn't have taken the chance to aim higher, and I'm glad they recommended it to me this isn't to say to leave your team behind, but if you're ready to do so or are a FA, genuinely consider it (even if it may take a while) also just scrim up a bit whenever you're ready

2) don't be afraid to take on better competition consistently I remember back in the day some of my friends telling me I could play at D5 if I really wanted to when I was ~D7, so I took the chance and eventually found a D5 team I was pretty successful with without those friends (who I found via

and expand your little network that way, it not only helps you find people to play with but making friends also helps you find things like private pickup servers and scrim partners that you otherwise wouldn't have found

two things I want to point out that helped my growth (~D7 to D4 within 3 months), they kinda relate to each other 1) go out and make connections, comp splatoon is more of a social game than you think I know it's scary at first, but once you find a few people you can make friends of friends

I don't totally disagree, but what (if any) storylines are being made leading up to these events? I barely see anyone talk about these events that span more than a day until maybe the week of, and at that point you might as well announce the event then to generate hype that lasts into tournament day

that's the only thing I'm worried about, there are examples I will not name but it feels like sometimes people are playing for the badge and not because the tournament is run well I guess it helps new TOs get into the scene and ecosystem easier, so there's positive tradeoffs
comment in response to post
yeah, part of it sucks that you just won't see a crazy amount of teams signed up to one tournament anymore, but it is somewhat nice to have competition that forces people to innovate (which I think is a good thing overall for the scene if that means the average quality of tournaments increases)

the overlays + badge are so good, it's such a shame it died the new format is interesting if it actually happens, I won't spoil it here but I'm slightly worried about low team counts making it unfun
comment in response to post
I'd love more companion streams in general, we could even have people crop out the gameplay and just have the scoreboard if the TOs are worried about the main stream losing viewers to co-streams imo the more eyes the event has (regardless of where they're coming from) the better though

To @1nfa.bsky.social: My guy and best friend, I'm so proud of how far you and the rest of PS have come over the past few months. You absolutely deserve it. I really enjoy chatting with you and getting your insight on things. These past few months have been a lot of fun, and I hope that continues!

To @popgun.bsky.social: If someone were to tell me last year the TO I idolized the most in this community would not only recognize but support my TOing work, I would've called them crazy. Thank you for that support, I really appreciate it!

To @freshsquiffer.inkling.social and @elymental.bsky.social: I've said this multiple times already to y'all, but thank you both for taking the chance on me when you did. I don't think I'd be where I'm at right now if I didn't join @upsplatoon.bsky.social, so thank you for that. It means a lot!

the fact that you can have a badge already on the site before your tournament runs once is wild to me I'd love to see a buffer period where you have to wait a month or so after your first run to have a badge be added

it'd look something like this, but maybe with the actual weapon images instead of abbreviations:

"real tags" would be attached to discord IDs and have to be manually entered, so this is mainly for the players who's sendou name is different from what they actually go by (otherwise it just defaults to their sendou name) there is potential for SheetsIO integration for streamers as well :)

if you wanna talk further my discord DMs (im_xi) are open! I can go further in depth, but the 300 character limit is kinda annoying for back-and-forths lol
comment in response to post
honestly I think everyone would benefit from promoting events harder outside of discord specifically I think all of us have gotten a bit complacent regarding that because our numbers aren't dropping off that hard for reoccurring events we only really notice it for events like these
comment in response to post
it would be nice if these newer TOs who can be available at least tried to apply before doing their own thing, but sadly that's not happening
comment in response to post
and we have a team dedicated to verifying and seeding players and teams rather than heavily relying on other sources to do it for us at a time where we are looking for a potential new head TO to join us, we're lacking new applicants who would be available during FTIU (and not playing)
comment in response to post
FTIU has been steadily declining in teams at least partially due to lots of new TOs trying to get in on the D7-capped, NA-friendly tournament market and that's not due to a lack of effort from us, as far as I know we're the only ones in this specific market offering a broadcast
comment in response to post
tournaments nowadays just offer "a bracket and a badge" and nothing else I could ramble more, but I need time to think about it
comment in response to post
agree, the only new tournaments I want at this point are those that are actually innovative the combination of it being too easy to get access to create tournaments and too easy to upload a badge has hurt the average tournament quality so much, and Popgun summed it up perfectly when he said so many

update: it'll be tomorrow, turns out there's a ton of ideas going through my head and I'll need time to put it all together

I have the itch to play splatoon again, but solo isn't that fun and I don't feel like entering tournaments
