Trump just does not understand why anyone would resist a more powerful adversary, for any reason. "When you're a celebrity they just let you do it" and refusing to pay contractor invoices until they slash the price in desperation is how he understands the world. Ukraine baffles and infuriates him.

If I could, I would scream it into the world — but instead, I write it with shaking hands: RUSSIA STRUCK KHARKIV with 53 DRONES, 4 BOMBS & a MISSILE. It was the LARGEST & MOST RUTHLESS attack on the city since the war began. Three people were killed, 21 injured. THIS IS TERROR.

When warnings of Insectageddon were issued a few years ago, there was widespread denial. Less so now. It's devastating. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

You know the way you've always wanted to read a 5,500 word critical close-reading of the oeuvre of MrBeast? Well I have written exactly that www.theguardian.com/news/2025/ju...

Bluemoose Books is an AI FREE Publisher. AI cannot create the flawed human experience that is required to write brilliant books. It is cut & paste hallucination. It is Tech bros microdosed capitalism. It is not publishing. It is scraping. @thebookseller.com @theguardian.com

It's almost as if the Ai industry must at the very least offer a revenue stream to the people whose work it is reselling. (Imagine the current state of the discourse if they had led with that instead of "we won't pay for anything"...)

Excuse me but what in the chicken-fried fuck #Unbound (from www.thetimes.com/uk/arts/arti... )

"Donaldson watches hundreds of contestants below... [t]hey look “literally like ants”, he observes with a kind of childlike glee. And what are we, his viewers, if not ants ourselves, our swarming densities governed by unseen algorithms?" Mark O'Connell, in peerless form, on MrBeast.

Oh my god this is like a Brass Eye interview. If I'd been the reporter I would have said "But what if, when the man pays for the sex, they give him the key for the cellar? What then? Do we also make keys illegal?"

Continuing my trilogy #Kneecap cartoons of decreasing quality

So, I think it's time I begin, in detailed specifics, talking about the mess that is Unbound / Boundless as a book publisher, in essence stealing most of a years royalties from me and many other authors, as a result of poor financial decisions, and legal BS. Please read and share this thread.

We need more leaders like Jacinda Ardern. This is a really good interview. www.theguardian.com/world/ng-int...

I'm not a believer in cancel culture, but I do think accountability and transparency matter. Take a bow, the publisher formerly known as Unbound, now Boundless, for yet again defaulting on the debts to us authors - they owe us over half a million. Extract from the latest missive below 1/

actually mad what happens when the guy is white eh

While in Ireland, Jane and I enjoyed the opportunity of visiting with Irish President Michael D. Higgins, one of the outstanding progressive voices in Europe.

J.K. Rowling is using her wealth attained from the "Harry Potter" series to create an organization dedicated to removing transgender people's rights "in the workplace, in public life, and in protected female spaces.” 🔗: bit.ly/3ZBRxYk

If this is even remotely accurate, Elon Musk and Donald Trump have killed more people in several months than the Iraq war killed in a decade

Rosie the Riveter, by the great Norman Rockwell, his iconic cover for May 29th 1943’s The Saturday Evening Poster. Which was exactly 82 years ago. Not many statements resonate so strongly after so many years. And Rosie the Riveter is still very much striking & meaningful & inspiring today.

If you want to understand how people and publications are trying to shift and pivot on Gaza… The Atlantic on killing kids in Gaza a year ago (left) The Atlantic on killing kids in Gaza now (right)

An absolute masterclass in exposing hypocrisy. Stop what you are doing and give it your time.

"I would simply have arranged *not* to be born in Nazi Germany"

NEW: Israeli forces are killing Red Cross workers. In their homes. Posting this here because it’s unlikely you’ll see this in the news. Killed yesterday (May 24), their names were Ibrahim Eid and Ahmad Abu Hilal.

Israel prides itself on its forensic military intelligence when targeting Gaza. Singling out a doctor’s home, a paediatrician, and killing nine out of her ten children comes across as a deliberate act. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Tech bros: ‘We want to take all the data in the entire world to create an unreliable product for a failing business model propped up by billions in venture capital.’ Artists: ‘We want our legal rights over our work to be recognised.’ Tech bros: ‘Jesus, why can’t you people ever be reasonable.’

Working on a cartoon for TG4 about a ninja jellyfish. It's called "Smugairle Rōnin".

Multiple fires in central Kyiv after an extremely heavy missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital by fascist Russia. US President Trump’s inept “peace efforts” appear only to have emboldened Kremlin dictator Putin, who has threatened to attack more regions of Ukraine.

Not sure that is its most significant (or most brutal) flaw.

Just utter lawlessness from the Trump Administration, with no goal other than to punish institutions for refusing to bend the knee. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/22/u...

listen guys stop virtue signalling, eurovision is for everyone

"When citizens must think twice about criticizing or opposing the government because they could credibly face government retribution, they no longer live in a full democracy. By that measure, America has crossed the line." @stevelevitsky.bsky.social, @lucanway.bsky.social and @dziblatt.bsky.social

American staffers who work at the International Criminal Court, at the Hague, have been told they'll be arrested if they come in the United States, the AP reports: apnews.com/article/icc-...

"trans people are inherently unstable" nah dawg, being trans has actually made me way more stable than many cis people, because I had to do the hard and worthy internal work of knowing myself, when most cis people couldn't even look themselves in the eye if you held a mirror right up to their face.

Interesting that this article doesn't mention what seems an increasingly obvious problem for LLMs - every new iteration is trained on data that has been increasingly poisoned with garbage from the previous iteration. The web is full of AI-generated nonsense, and that's now part of the input.

I'm sure that firing Dr Ryan is just a coincidence after his eloquent, passionate advocacy for the victims of Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza and his repeated statements that maybe slaughtering and starving an entire generation of innocent children is a shitty thing to do.

I just watched an orangutan tie a knot. You should see it too.
