Met Toussaint at Jazzfest in 08…rockin the 3 piece shout with a cane in 90 degree weather on the outer track. Dude was cool, and a southern gentleman…he kissed my wife’s hand as a greeting

Champion Eagles ain’t gonna go eat a bunch of Big Macs with the command and thief. They should send a note from Kendrick…that note? A Minor

Good list but Acolyte is just below Kenobi for me. Concept was good but they didn’t make me care about any of those characters…Skeleton Crew did a great job with character development

At Jazzfest 2000 there was a super jam with Ribot, Medeski, Karl Denson, Stanton Moore, James Singleton…and Skerik joined for set two. Really great stuff

They missed the drop on three straight peaks…that’s my only issue with the whole thing. The last peak did successfully drop into Chalkdust but the missed the opportunity to really gas up the dance party

I was thinking today about the economic situation that made million + dollar music video productions a good investment. There was a time when heavy airplay on MTV meant hot album, single, and concert ticket sales

Can’t wait to hear what stories he tells at the Saenger about the debut of Oysterhead. Wild night in NOLA

You’re absolutely right. Variations more than pure improv. But when you compare them to a band like phish…there are few bands in history and that routinely pull off so many different genres in the course of one album or show. So maybe not a JB by strict improv standards but in there for versatility

Hampton is home away from home for me. I’ve seen all 21 while living in NC. Can’t wait for a three nighter there next year for it’s 55th anniversary

Trey said they were his new favorite soon after his daughter took him to see them. And Phish practiced a king Gizz cover for nye run last year but didn’t play it because Eggy had just debuted the same song a week earlier
comment in response to
post
Yeah this is a legit point. I will say the King Gizz goes outside what they’ve laid down in the studio in the live setting. At the same time, nobody else on this list is as comfortable in the studio as King Gizz

I sat next to an old school Panic fan at the Fox…like this guy went to high school w JB. So they are pulling jamband fans without a doubt
comment in response to
post
I definitely get it but they do jam and they are a pulling a crowd that overlaps with the others in the list. Jamband sucks as a band description…you could be playing any kind of music that involves improv and you get that label

My favorite two set show aside from Big Cypress, which should be in a category by itself

I made this playlist a few years ago that starts out pretty normal but then gets funky and weird. Last year the Spotify algorithm picked it up and I got 2K followers in a couple weeks. But it’s my relief when people insist on holiday music which tends to annoy me. open.spotify.com/playlist/1Ex...

Not only that, they missed the opportunity to have Mavis sing on the weight!
