People get it; that's why most of us that care supported the Democratic party despite their many issues. The Republican desire to hurt people wasn't a mystery before the election and it isn't a surprise now.

Minnpost (like Minneapolis Voices) is little more than a mouthpiece for the Minneapolis Foundation. Sad that they've convinced (some) people that their non-profit status means that they're somehow more ethical than right-wing media. See their fawning support of charter schools 15 years ago.

Hell yes, a few weeks ago I was on here saying I didn’t know much about Chugtai and wasn’t impressed, BUT NOW I AM. Down with the fake education nonprofits!

Last chance until next season.

Hilarious. Let's just be done with Uptown, it's been over for years and it's time we acknowledge it.

Fair enough. Replying only to say I am not Stancil (or Jacob Frey, or whoever else).
comment in response to post
I have no idea what that means but my comment was sincere. I also think segregation is bad and came to know Orfield/Stancil through their work combating it, which is why I’ve always been confused by the Stancil hate.
comment in response to post
Isn’t Orfield’s basic premise that racial and economic segregation is bad and developers ripped off the city? Thought “leftists” would agree but I guess not.
comment in response to post
Thanks for immediately proving his point.

If you criticize anyone or anything in the city without explicitly criticizing Frey as well people on here get pretty pissed off.

If those are the vibes I'm giving off then I will need to take a look in the mirror. Here's a rundown of Frey's connections to Feeding our Future - he, like Fateh, apparently accused people at the MN Dept. of Ed. of racism when they tried so stop the fraud: unicornriot.ninja/2022/all-we-...
comment in response to post
This strikes me as a disaster. Now we've got the Reverend and two guys who embody different shades of Frey - Fateh's got his love of non-profits run by friends and adjacency to outright fraud, while Hampton's got his love of big money and relationship with the Minneapolis Foundation.
comment in response to post
I think Knuth could have won if she’d just said “Frey is a disaster and Sheila isn’t a serious candidate. Vote for me.” Maybe my recollection is inaccurate but I don’t recall Knuth really distinguishing herself from Sheila.

Thank you for saying this! People have their heads in the sand.

Would love to read a rundown of her accomplishments, have looked at her website but didn’t see much that stuck with me.
comment in response to post
I think you’re underestimating candidate quality. Nezhad didn’t seem prepared to actually be mayor. Fateh seems incompetent at best. Being “extra left” doesn’t even come into play (for me). Frey is an absolute clown and we need a new mayor. Not fair to Davis/Koski when we lump them in with Fateh.
comment in response to post
That candidate, for me, is Omar Fateh, and it’s mainly because of his support for Aimee Bock and Feeding our Future. Can you explain why you endorsed him? I won’t be ranking Frey, but Fateh seems like more of the same corruption and incompetence: youtu.be/WmxJzMmFjg4?...
comment in response to post
I don't know man, most of the defendants were suburban restaurant owners, not his constituents. My mind's made up, but yeah, people should ask Frey and Fateh about this! Not that you could believe what they say, but why not?
comment in response to post
Fair enough, but if the Dept. of Education told you "this group is likely committing fraud," would you do this: youtu.be/WmxJzMmFjg4?...
comment in response to post
Frey is and always has been a disaster. I don't think Fateh is any better. The other campaigns need to start tying them together instead of pretending they're super different from one another. "Vote Frey & Fateh for Feeding our Future Fraud!" - does that work?
comment in response to post
I won't be voting for Fateh. The guy went after the Dept. of Education when they tried to stop Feeding our Future and has been involved in other non-profit funding shenanigans. Not sure how he's better than Frey. Whatever strategy people come up with shouldn't count on people ranking him.

I don’t live in Ward 10, but all I really know about your council member is that she was uncommitted to stopping Trump and she insists that reporters address her as “Vice President,” not just council member. I’m thinking that’s a bad sign.
comment in response to post
That is my main gripe. I know there are good nonprofits and good people working for nonprofits but it’s a lot of duplicative small scale stuff that’s hard to track. It’s also apparently fairly easy, or at least too common, for people to manipulate that system for personal gain, at least for awhile.
comment in response to post
I suppose it would be frustrating if you genuinely believed that you were uniquely qualified to improve the community. But when has that actually happened? Think of all the education-adjacent nonprofits that have failed to impact the achievement gap, violence interrupters shooting people, etc…
comment in response to post
That doesn't strike me as a legitimate reason. I think it's got more to do with many DFL electeds coming up through the non-profit pipeline and not wanting to upset that, which is putting it kindly.
comment in response to post
Likewise. The segregationist actions of the Trump administration were clearly preceded by the segregationist actions of the “education reform” movement as well.

He was a favorite of Beth Hawkins and @minnpost.bsky.social too wasn’t he? Wonder if they’ll be covering this.

I’m telling you man, this guy’s editorials are awful.

Been dawning on me recently how much of an absolute shitshow it’s been. Seems like just another grift.

Pretty sure they still can, they’d just need to get the President of the University’s sign-off or do it outside University channels.

Thank you. Being asked to color pictures and eat ice cream at work is insulting.

Same. So boring. Was a big fan but his last couple books have been slogs.

In case I haven’t been clear - Frey sucks! Don’t vote for him!
comment in response to post
No problem - here's Frey advocating for Feeding our Future with talking points provided by Aimee Bock - one of many, many reasons not to vote for him: www.startribune.com/feeding-our-...

I looked into it more and found this. Gotta be disqualifying, no? youtu.be/WmxJzMmFjg4?...

Pretty sure it was a witness in Bock’s trial that tied Fateh to Feeding our Future. He apparently advocated on their behalf when they were being investigated. Not great. I don’t think either him or Frey should get a pass in this.
comment in response to post
You’re more optimistic about Fateh than me. He’s come up in the Feeding our Future trial and that’s not the only weird thing either. I’m worried he’s going to drag other progressive candidates down. minnesotareformer.com/2025/02/18/m...
comment in response to post
Yeah we’ll see. Looks like Fateh was advocating for Feeding our Future. The Reverend isn’t well known (at the moment). Koski isn’t well-liked by some on the left. Not sure we have 2+ candidates that can win.
comment in response to post
Agreed. One of the challengers needs to separate themselves from the rest and take him on as an equal, not do some “vote for all of us” nonsense.
comment in response to post
Yeah, definitely. I just don’t think it works in real life, most people just don’t put that much thought into voting.
comment in response to post
Looks like Fateh needs to exit the mayor’s race too. Worried the candidates currently campaigning with him are going to be dragged down as well.
