Look, I know that this can't (and shouldn't) be done with everything, but increasingly I feel like the progressive end of the legal profession is just "no you can't do that" defeatism instead of working on creative ways to help activists and organizers do shit legally.

“What makes dysfunction so dangerous is that we might simply learn to live with it. But understanding hypernormalization gives us language – and permission – to recognize when systems are failing, and clarifies the risk of not taking action when we can.”

Notice how they gutted everything that had to do with statistics and data first, so it’ll take a long time to prove this callous policy killed women and babies.

The Vietnam War was 20 years long. By 1973, almost 60,000 Americans had been killed and over 3 million Americans had been stationed there. And the US was losing most of the time. This context is important for evaluating why Americans turned against the war. It was self preservation, not empathy.

This is also part of the refusal of msm political commentators to ignore the significance and agency of Black voters. It was Black primary voters in SC who got behind Biden. Because Black voters know the white electorate better than those commentators & knew Biden could best beat Trump in 2020.

So ok, here’s the deal. We’ve been skating on the fact that we had a massive summer wave last year, one of the biggest we’ve *ever* had. Since then, no new strain really took over, so people who got sick last year have been coasting on limited immunity to that strain. That’s about to change.

You are not going to hear that we are in a surge. The news will absolutely suppress the true impact until it cannot. You need to make the decision to do the right thing without prompting. You can consider this March 2020. Be the person you were then.

I know y’all don’t care about this but there’s a pretty fast spreading Covid variant going around and there’s gonna be a summer surge whether you like it or not. You can, of course, avoid this by getting vaccinated and wearing a mask but you won’t do that.

Important things to know for adoptees

Democratic voters issued a massive rebuke of their own party last year by just refusing to show up on election day & instead of a major shakeup its leaders are spending big on consultants to find a Youtube salesman that can help a small group of septuagenarians no one likes cling to power.

Four top partners at Paul Weiss announced they are leaving the law firm, a major blow following its decision to cut a deal with President Trump to head off an executive order that would have restricted its business.

If you don't understand the difference between Medicare and Medicaid (and many folks don't)—Medicare is administered at the federal level. You automatically get it (eventually) when you become eligible for Social Security benefits. Social Security benefits are only available based on work records.

CLEVELAND, TN: “A senior at Tennessee Christian Prep is suing her own high school, saying they suspended her from school and are withholding her diploma all because she posted on social media that she was gay.” WSMV: www.instagram.com/reel/DJ7Megu...

I actually want to say this really loudly because I am not seeing other non-Jews say it enough. The Israeli diplomat shooting was an antisemitic hate crime. Yes, most allegations of antisemitism within the anti-genocide movement are bullshit. THIS was antisemitism parading as anti-genocide.

And specifically, I'd argue, a care union. One that unites people not around paid work but around their participation in a shared project of care.

Really hating this “the rules are whatever we want” environment that is getting zero pushback

Also: I assume Harvard will try to sue fast and fix things, but the cruelty this letter unleashes *today* will induce lasting fear and panic not just on the 6800 international students at Harvard, but also on all international students in this country, even if there is a swift TRO. Why stay here?

You have three days, starting today, to leave a public comment with the FDA about, say, why COVID-19 boosters should remain available to everyone and also free. "Individual consumer" is the category you most likely want (unless you are one of the other categories; if so, choose that).

Idk, do you think both parties staunchly ignoring Covid since 2022 has had an effect?

Tonight, President Trump is hosting an “intimate” private dinner for the top holders of his $TRUMP memecoin. It’s an unprecedented pay-to play stunt and one of the most corrupt events we’ve ever seen. Here’s what you need to know: 🧵

something i hope cis people can keep in mind is that each attack on trans people is not, for those affected, just a news item for that day to be forgotten tomorrow. and so you will need to remember too, because the media will not try to remind you.

we don't have regulators any more we have weird fucking zealots steering the lobotomized husk of what used to be semi-coherent federal governance

I keep getting asked if it’s legal to spend our campaign funds on food drives or our high school public service grants and the answer is YES. It is. Politicians and Democratic organizations need to use their coffers to help people NOW and fill in the gaps that Trump has created.

Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man to hold public office in California: “His whole point was that America had to see that we were everywhere." Read more on his legacy here ⤵️

Men just REALLY REALLY REALLY do not like hearing from women and/or disabled folks when it comes to us talking about what we need to be able to simply exist in public space

Grateful to everyone who shared their thoughts with me for this piece about the difference between how people imagined they would show up for a moment like this one, and how we're actually showing up—and how we can begin to close the gap between aspiration and action.

the best thing you can do right now to avoid sinking into despair is stop waiting for a government to protect people it was never designed to protect. redistribute your time and resources to build new structures of resilience. stop begging for mercy and plant the seeds that are already in your hand.

There are 100 terrible things in this bill. Focus like a laser on one or two of those things and start educating everyone you know on those one or two things. If each of us does that, then we'll be able to inform A LOT OF PEOPLE.

🎯If you read one thing about the Pandemic Treaty, let it be this by Ebere Okereke @thinkglobalhealth.org www.thinkglobalhealth.org/article/pand...

I have a lot more thoughts on this, but after this much time, it’s clear that the job of the modern media class is stenography and PR. That means that the role of a free press—to inform and protect the public about our shared government—is going unfulfilled except by an individual few.

The fascist win if you lose your compassion for other people. That's part of the war. You have to keep compassion.

Important thread and it's extremely important to know that this isn't over. I particularly want to stress that if you are in a district Represented by a Republican who voted for the bill, an immediate thing to do alert the public and the media in your area. Indivisible has other suggestions.

Let me just be clear: Americans live worse than the citizens of other rich, developed nations — in terms of transportation, healthcare rights costs and outcomes, access to education and higher education, quality of life, social support, and social mobility We refuse to see this for some reason
