In university I've noticed that the theory learnt is amazing, but there's little context of how these theories are applied in business. Depending on your role, the business doesn't care if you understand the theory. They understand if you can apply it to the business so they can make money!

This is a quote from the Infosec Surival Guide Volume 2 by Black Hills - I've been trying to explain this idea to college students when they ask me about the value of university for cyber. You need to take the skills you learn and understand how they apply in business. It's a huge differentiator.

I recommend TryHackMe and HTB to all students who are interested in infosec. Such great resources which supplement the degrees people are taking which are quite frankly not equipping students for the workplace.

Certs open doors, but practical skills keep them open. In #cybersecurity, hands-on experience—building labs, solving CTFs, or working on real-world issues—is what truly sets you apart. A cert may get you the interview, but your ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge will secure the role.
