Indeed -- sell off all the roster talent and become that team people stop supporting because they hate the owner

The job is hyper-demanding, physically and otherwise; I am very mindful of the toll it has taken on colleagues over the years, and on myself as well. Just happy and blessed that energy, passion, and fun are still winning out --

My Canadian context has some different contours, but American voices are always rippling and echoing through our public ed systems, so this is an important read. Thank you

Working on it. Have to. Poetry will doubtless be part of the formula.

Full court press bad. Flood the zone bad. So much bad that bad becomes normal. And we know that's the strategy, but how do you gameplan against it

Told you so. There's a new direction at the end of it all

How and why we gave these people so much power in our society is going to be one of the burning questions around the post-apocalyptic campfire

Came across this via CBC Ideas -- this episode includes the full keynote and a terrific interview afterwards

Yep -- "...fearless minds climb soonest unto crowns" (Henry VI Pt 3, 4.7.62), and when they grab power simply because they think they deserve it, the enablers line up. No Claudius without Polonius, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern; no Macbeth without the thanes going along to get along.

Writers will, and will always; those asked or required to write is a different proposition. And from my teacher view, the tech isn't too discriminating; it can kill really anything that requires thought, from your essay to your math homework.

Erring on the side of creating possibility should be our default setting -- that is our role, after all, though of course it has to be balanced with responsibility and natural consequences for behaviour. Why our work is so complex!

Yeah, that's a bit tricky. Seminar and Psych are pretty heavy courses, particularly for kids in grade 10, so late work is a definite caution flag. I guess as with many things, it's a contextual decision based on individuals and circumstances -- ?

whatever it might be, it for sure won't be the word you expevted

or if you tilt your eyes cynically, "life is to neglect everything"

I always lead with passion. If you love reading and writing and are willing to take on a challenge, the work ethic and engagement will be there. That makes me far less concerned with marks and so on.

Saw New Order with the Pet Shop Boys a couple of years back. Blue Monday live is definitely a concert and life highlight. And playing Love Will Tear Us Apart with images of Ian Curtis on the screen was a lovely touch.

Just beyond gutted for Scheifele. Heartbreaking. Hope he gets to lift the Cup someday and look to the heavens.

Man, if there are hockey gods they've gotta be on the Jets' side 🤞🏒🤞🏒

Yeah, proud to be from here! A blue collar / government / university town, pretty vibrant cultural scene, a center-left oasis in a conservative province, tons of green space. And hockey-mad, of course! Actually posted a shot of downtown earlier today --

I think there are some subtle differences in size, dough, and so on, but essentially the same --

Just checked our most high profile spots (including one run by recent immigrants) and they all offer them -- not sure about quantities and prices though. I don't buy them so I've never checked, but will cast a curious eye next time I shop or dine --
