Nah. 80+ approval ratings for politicians are always suspicious. You are treading very close to a hero worshipping at that point. Or poll/opinion manipulation.
It can be understood in this case because Ukraine is at war and everyone rallies together.

True, but the first line of defense is always the country's own military. That has to be strong.
NATO is not some separate force that suddenly springs up when something happens. It is the active militaries of all the member nations put together.

Bilateral agreements are necessary. With NATO, EU, etc. There is always one or two bad eggs messing up the consensus needed to actually get something done. Hungary, Slovakia. USA.

So fate of Ukraine is same as Finland's after WW2.
Finland held off against Russia, but had to pay huge reparations and lost land to Russia.

Even the remote off-switch would not be a problem if the commitment from USA to NATO and it's partners would be ironclad. But Trump has trashed that trust.

Big selling point for US made weapons has been that they have implied to have come with security commitment from USA.
That doesn't seem to be the case. It may even be the opposite. There may be security risks involved with US made weapons.
Europe needs to explore other options.

I honestly didn't even know that the ceasefire had actually started yet. Didn't Putin say that the terms were unacceptable just last week?

Russia never joined the treaty. What does it matter if Finland does not have mines at their side of border if Russia mines their side. Bears don't care about borders. It's the same forest for them on both sides of the border. So both sides may as well be mined.

Finland will not place landmines anywhere during peace times. And all mines will be marked on the maps so that they can also be removed.

Obviously the increase will happen incrementally. Planning purchases and placing orders on defense material will take time. You can't just go to some army shop and spend couple of billions of euro's.

It should be irrelevant that some people want him to run. The law has term limit. He should not even joke about it.

Russia does not respect anything else than nuclear deterrence. And European countries would have already been in Ukraine and maybe Belarus if Russia did not have nukes and NATO would not have been so afraid of them.

Kalmar Union 2.0 with the capital city in Mariehamn. But it would also need Estonia to counter too much Scandinavian influence đ€

Not much in any way, but I'm just bored of having "accessible" argument always brought up while no one denies that audiobooks and braille are amazing for disabled people. But I talk about people able to both listen audiobooks and read textbooks.
comment in response to
post
I never argue that one way of _consuming_ a book is superior. I only argue that reading and listening are different experiences and you can't claim to have read the book if you listen to it. Both ways will let you know the contents of the book.

If AI can someday re-create a book in a visual format. Step by step. All dialogue and every description intact. Is the created "movie" reading?
comment in response to

Yes. Lazy people, not only handicapped people.
comment in response to

Ok. Should handicap parking be available to everyone who is just lazy?
Just because audiobooks are great for visually impaired doesn't mean it's same as reading text.
comment in response to

Yes. But audiobooks are not reading. Right?

Yeah, but no energy infrastructure so the attack was ok. Right?
comment in response to
post
It's spring. Russia gains nothing from bombing the Ukrainian energy infrastructure when it's no longer cold in Ukraine.
Instead Russia gains a lot if it can force Ukraine to stop destroying Russian oil refineries.
So the ban on attacks on energy infra only benefits Russia.

Turkey is not 100% an ally of Russia. Erdogan is in his own camp. Not NATO and not Russia.

Croatia is not bordering Russia. That alone makes situation completely different to Ukraine.

We honestly don't know how history would have went had Ukraine been able to keep their nukes. Could they have maintained them and made them operational? Would we have had another Chernobyl? Would they have sold the nukes to the highest bidders? There is no way to know.

Why don't we just cut electricity and remove indoor plumbing.

Finland most likely leaving the treaty as well. The Finnish defense ministry report is soon ready and it will probably recommend that Finland should leave the treaty.

Both Finland and Ukraine gained independence after the Russian Empire ceased to exist.
Both had bloody civil wars right after.
Sadly the Russian side won in Ukraine and Ukraine was absorbed to the Soviet Union đ

Toivottavasti lapsi saa tarvitsemaansa apua.

Finnish official foreign policy is and has always been about consensus. Boat is not rocked easily. Everyone is on the same message.
But when the consensus changes then it can change fast.

Good thing in this is that all the countries bordering NATO already meet all the requirements.
Bad thing is that it doesn't really matter to countries like Spain or Portugal if USA defends them or not since they will never get attacked first. So it doesn't incentivize them to increase the budget.

You do know that there are European parliament elections?
comment in response to

There has to be a way to ignore any single, or even few EU countries if rest of the countries agree on something. Even the big ones. There can't be any veto on that. We never know which countries "go wrong" next.
