At the heart of the sewage scandal is a regulatory system which has failed. Liberal Democrats will continue our campaign to replace Ofwat with a new regulator to clean up our waterways for good. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A busy day out and about in Kendal on Friday - including a lovely visit to meet the team at the wonderful Herdy shop, and also an absolute joy to join the residents at Eskdale House for their garden tea party. Thanks so much for having me!

Utterly appalling decision. These cuts threaten both the livelihoods of farmers (many of whom are already earning less than the minimum wage), and the future of our treasured environment. The Chancellor must think again.

This should be the final nail in the coffin for Thames Water. It needs to be turned into a public benefit company and Ofwat needs to be scrapped and replaced with a real regulator with teeth. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

A rare Tuesday by election result… Kendal Town Council, Highgate Ward: Lib Dem 411 (73%) Green 76 (13.5%) Ind 48 (8.5%) Lab 28 (5%) Lib Dem hold Congratulations Cllr Tim Martland and our entire team for a brilliant result!

In rural communities, we particularly depend on volunteer drivers to help people who live hours away from hospital appointments. I asked the Health Minister to direct integrated care boards and trusts to support those volunteer drivers, so that volunteers are valued and patients are not isolated.

A busy afternoon and evening in wonderful Appleby. I held my surgery, then had time on the doorsteps before giving a talk to the Appleby Society. All in stunning weather!

Banning care workers from overseas will have devastating consequences for our loved ones who desperately need care, for our care homes who are struggling to recruit the staff they need, and on our already overstretched hospitals.

On #WorldMEDay I've joined Lib Dem colleagues in writing to the Health Secretary about the need to invest in the Final Delivery Plan for ME/CFS. People with ME have one of the lowest qualities of life of any condition but have faced decades of insufficient care. This must change

For British farmers, yesterday's announcement of a US-UK trade deal has led to a lot of uncertainty and unanswered questions around food standards, beef, labelling, ethanol, and more. Farmers must not be left in the dark - they deserve answers 👇 www.lbc.co.uk/opinion/view...

I remain extremely concerned that the Government has made no lasting funding commitment for flood protection beyond next April. Given the increasing threat flooding poses to communities and our food security, I am pressing the Government to commit to flood protection funding in the Spending Review.

It was a really moving evening at Kendal Castle as we lit the beacon to commemorate VE Day. A chance to pay tribute the generation that defeated evil and secured our freedoms.

With news of a trade deal to be announced very soon between the UK and the US, I just asked the DEFRA Secretary if the PM has spoken to him about the impact this will have on British farmers. MPs must be given a vote on this deal if we are to protect farmers from being sold out.

“Thousands of young people who are proud to have grown up in the UK and think of themselves as British, are still regarded as 'temporary migrants' by the Home Office”, writes @timfarron.bsky.social 🗣️ UK immigration policy still fails young people www.politics.co.uk/mp-comment/2...

It was great visiting Logie Farm near Newburgh last Friday with @timfarron.bsky.social. Good discussions with the NFUS on Scottish agriculture’s importance to local communities and key issues facing the sector. With thanks to Jo and Andrew for hosting.

Proud to back my colleague Richard Foord's new bill to require Parliament to have a say over any future trade deal between the UK and the US. Britain's world class food, farming, and animal welfare standards must not be sold out in a desperate deal with Donald Trump.

20 years ago today we won Westmorland and Lonsdale by 267 votes after a recount. It continues to be my utter joy, honour and calling to serve our communities. What better way to celebrate than a 7.6 mile run around the stunning Kent Estuary in south Westmorland? Thank you all ❤️

This week I met with the Education Minister Stephen Morgan to discuss my campaign to give every young person access to an outdoor education experience. Outdoor learning can build resilience, confidence, and a love of learning in children.

Farmers have a pivotal role in our fight against climate change. Many have becks and rivers flowing through their farms which they would like to tap into to generate energy. Today I asked the Energy Minister to support our farmers to achieve this.

We talk about outdoor learning with @timfarron.bsky.social On a recent visit to our Castle Head Field Centre in Cumbria, Tim Farron sat down with our Education Support Assistant, Oli Wilson, to discuss the benefits of outdoor learning. Watch the video here: buff.ly/UGzu9rN

Food is a basic commodity which we all rely on but take for granted. If this govt don’t intervene to #SaveBritishFarming Britain is sleepwalking into disaster. Listen to @timfarron.bsky.social he gets it! Write to your MP NOW and RT.

Flipping done it! Thanks so much to everyone who sponsored to me and gave money to the fantastic mental health charity Growing Well. It's not too late to support them here: 2025tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/tim-farron

Health bosses have pulled the funding for GP surgeries in Morecambe Bay to assess and treat minor injuries. This will put more pressure on our already over-stretched hospitals, undermine the funding for local GP surgeries, and create longer journeys for people in rural areas.

Most people feel too uncomfortable to tell people to turn down their music on public transport. But far too many train and bus journeys are ruined by inconsiderate anti social behaviour. It's time to take a stand for the quiet majority who just want to get from A to B in peace.

"Residents in every community of our country want us to listen to them and to act to end the sewage scandal. We must not let them down." @timfarron.bsky.social

Following years of dedicated service, local GPs have given notice that they will hand back their contract for Coniston surgery in July. I am pressing health bosses to actively seek to find new GPs - rather than sending patients to go to surgeries in other villages or towns.

My final training run before the big day on Sunday. A 6.7 mile loop from Westminster to the Shard and back via Tower Bridge. I’m attempting the London Marathon to raise funds for the wonderful Growing Well in Cumbria…. 2025tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/tim-farron

So… I am a number, not a free man. Bib for the London marathon duly collected. Feels a bit real now 😬. I’m running for the amazing Growing Well, please throw them a few quid here…. 2025tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/tim-farron

Astonishing that so few Tories turned up for the vital debate on sewage pollution. Such a shame too that the government opposed the Liberal Democrat proposal to strengthen the regulation of the water industry to prevent this outrageous pollution…

The Government's decision to delay to building a new Royal Lancaster Infirmary at a more accessible site by 10 years is devastating news for people here in South Cumbria. In the House of Commons this afternoon, I urged the Health Minister to think again.

Farmers were thrown under a bus by the Conservatives through trade deals with Australia and New Zealand. MPs must get a say on any future trade deal with the USA if we stand a chance of protecting Britain's high farming and animal welfare standards.

Villa v Newcastle. Good game, but I am hereby launching a campaign to force teams to wear their first kit unless there is a genuine clash.

Reform 'throwing farmers under bus' in chlorine-backed US trade deal www.farmersguardian.com/4411995/

Upgrading the A66 is absolutely crucial to boosting the North's economy and helping to save lives. Today in Parliament, I urged the Chancellor to give this vital scheme the green light.

Delighted to write again for the Farmers Guardian this week, on Trump, Farage - and the potential for chlorine-treated chicken to find itself on our supermarket shelves as part of a UK-US trade deal. www.farmersguardian.com/blog/4411913...

"Will the Prime Minister meet with me and local farmers to create a fairer scheme to support them and protect our countryside?" @timfarron.bsky.social

After years of campaigning it’s welcome that these environmentally backwards plans have been axed. The UK steel industry was very clear that this coal was NOT suitable for steel making in this country and so the economic case for this polluting mine was completely dead www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The increasing number of wildfires in Cumbria and the UK is hugely concerning. The decision to incentivise farmers to reduce the number of sheep they graze on the uplands and to leave huge swathes of land unmanaged will literally add fuel to the fire here www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/2506191...

An absolute joy to join pupils from Cartmel Primary School on their visit to the awesome FSC Castle Head outdoor activity centre. Outdoor education centres provide incredible experiences for young people. I'm campaigning for every young person to have the chance to go on an outdoor education visit

Thank you so much to students from local schools and colleges who attended my Youth Forum yesterday. Brilliant debates and discussions about a huge range of topics such as tourism, knife crime, Brexit, transport, and lots more! So encouraging to see so many young people engaged in politics.

Grateful to the Farmers Guardian for covering our Buy Local, Back Britain campaign. Our farmers and small businesses are being hammered by higher taxes, soaring energy costs, staffing shortages, and now Trump's tariffs. Let's back Britain by buying local www.farmersguardian.com/news/4411865...

Lovely to be in Kirkby Stephen to visit two fantastic brand new shops in town - Ride & Roam, and Guappo Hair Design - massive good luck to you both! And then out for an hour in the town centre with my a-board chatting to people about farming, the A66, the M6, and lots more.

Thanks to @timfarron.bsky.social for taking the lead on this important campaign!  Every young person deserves the chance to experience the outdoors. At our outdoor learning centres, Woodrow and Hindleap, we see first-hand how life-changing these experiences can be.

Pleased to join Tim from Leading Outdoor Learning and @timfarron.bsky.social in Westminster yesterday. Nature builds vital skills & outdoor learning is so important. In Somerset, Mill on the Brue has been fostering teamwork, resilience, and confidence through outdoor adventure for over 40 years.

A great afternoon spent with outdoor education leaders in Westminster encouraging MPs from all parties to support our campaign to make outdoor residential experiences accessible to all young people. Outdoor education can boost confidence, build resilience, and change lives.

A passing loop on the Lakes Line would double the amount of trains running to Windermere, bringing huge benefits to businesses, residents, and help more people switch from the car to the train when travelling to the Lake District. I'm urging ministers to support our bid👇
