going to start reposting this whenever i’m feeling overwhelmed by horrifying world events

Every one of them a citation of his Substack lol

one reason to block JD Vance is to build a cordon sanitaire so you don't get swarmed by MAGA C.H.U.Ds. The bluesky block is awesome, and it is useful for exactly this reason.

Barret Hansen — better known as Dr. Demento — is retiring after 55 years in radio. The 84-year-old broadcaster has introduced audiences to "comedy songs, parodies, and musical oddities" since 1970. And episodes from his entire run are archived on his website. sopghreporter.com/2025/06/01/d...

We really need to stop talking about this as some kind of looming threat rather than a process well underway. It’s not “close.” You have arrived at your destination. The order has been delivered.

Hey @bsky.app @support.bsky.team love you folks but I have a request. I'm one of the larger accounts on here but I suspect that not EVERY user on this website has seen Alf’s genitals. Perhaps a tweak of the algorithm is in order. Thanks.

There is actually a very accurate historical document of the post-9/11 vibes. A clipart comic called Get Your War On. Click on through: www.mnftiu.cc/2001/10/09/w...

One of my Gazan friends was curious about me having pansexual in my bio. He said “you’re the first pansexual person I’ve met, so I want to know more about it, and what not to say to hurt you”. Even under genocide he was worried about offending me as he didn’t know. Palestinians are the best of us.

No, we didn't lose the whole fight for trans rights today. We lost a battle, yes. But the fight isn't over. And no, trans kids don't need to be told it gets better. They DO need to see us fight for them. They need to know we won't give up on them. Tomorrow we start the fight again.

This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.

pedophiles have a welcome home on x, the everything app, which interestingly also remains a hub of professional media activity

It's easy to forget now but we had decades of steady advancement on trans rights. The 2016 bathroom bills invited huge backlash! It was only after the media constructed sports and youth medications as 'debates' that opposition moved from the far right to the polite center.

If comic artists were paid minimum wage, they would be paid about 600x more than they currently are

Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.

the argument that it's not life saving is literally that trans people, as an entire unit, cannot be trusted to report whether transitioning improved their quality of life

The Trump administration is ending 988 Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ service—which has received over 1.3 million calls, texts, & chats since 2022. The Supreme Court also just upheld a law banning all gender-affirming care for minors. This is just plain cruel and wrong.

Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

Strange how this keeps happening. I wonder if any of them will learn even one thing from it.

Whoopsie doopsie!!!

I'm old enough to remember and while the Iraq war was extremely stupid - i remember freedom fries, yellow cake, mission accomplished, osama's masters of the universe secret underground lair - I am in the minority opinion that our current situation is still infinitely stupider.

The saga of the latest media piece of shit to say Bluesky is bad comes to an end the only way it can

fuck the New York Times and everyone who works or writes for them and please let me emphasize yes, I mean everyone

I post my "Bluesky is dying" article on Twitter and sit back smugly as it's shown to 274 of my 80,000 followers, receiving two likes, on retweet, and an anime avatar called lolitas1488 telling me my inferior skullshape means I belong in the camps.

The 'revelation' here is a bizarre NYT hit piece on a researcher who said she wanted to make sure her findings were accurate before publishing them.

In case you need one, here is a *direct* line from the bullshit the @nytimes.com has published on trans issues to real, consequential anti-trans policy.

Since WWII, it’s been standard for Americans to describe their country as “a democracy.” The only people who dissented from that norm were fascists or Birchers. Over the past 10 years, MAGA influencers have pushed the idea that the US is NOT a democracy into the mainstream of GOP discourse.

I think the Supreme Court decision fucking sucks and is illustrative of how deeply the US hates not just trans people, but children, and it ties VERY deeply into the politics of how we think about children's rights and bodies. This thread from @nora.zone is a great articulation of this issue.

This is important.

Fuck the New York Times.

They spent untold amounts of money on their gear and weapons that can be neutralized by common widely available items and determination and countless numbers. Remember this when you are faced with demoralization and fracturing solidarity. Those are the only things that let them win.

lolsob that within a week of Loving Day the Supreme Court totally embraced the logic that the Court rejected in Loving and that we just celebrate the rejection of

Treat yourself kindly Please don't harm yourself. I've already lost friends this year from suicide Please treat yourself kindly

Something the Skrmetti decision drives home: "Puberty blockers" should be abandoned as a goal; the goal should be HRT for any minor that wants it; puberty blockers should be a tool for minors who choose themselves they need more time to decide and *nothing else*. Compromising achieved nothing, here

my entire timeline is trans people struggling with suicidal ideation and panic attacks next to cis people talking about other things besides the ruling that says banning our health care is legal a microcosm of trans life in america

Bodily autonomy is a human right. Transness isn't a disease that needs to be cured. We're a normal part of the spectrum that is the human condition. And we deserve to have the final say over our own bodies - not just because of the harm if we don't, but because they belong to us and not the state.

The thing about Tucker humiliating Ted Cruz isn’t that Tucker is smart it’s that Ted Cruz feels an obligation to treat Tucker with some level of respect and answer questions instead of displaying open contempt which is what Republicans do to all other members of the media

'Cuomo has more experience' is such a bizarre argument given that *he resigned in disgrace.*.

If you need to get out, don't feel any guilt about trying to make it happen.

Plessy v. Ferguson for trans people

one of my least favourite things about social media is people trying to assert themselves as leaders when they have to business doing so. "i didn't get to transition until i was an adult and that's fine" is not a statement i and many others would ever say.

The repression of trans people is not, by and large, a grassroots outpouring of hatred from the American people. It's something that's been carefully planted and tended over years by a handful of media people and their pet reporters.

There are no distractions. It's all bad. Systematically stripping trans people of their rights, guys in balaclavas shoving any brown person with a tattoo into a ummarked vans, ending healthcare for millions. It's all in service of fascism and technofeudalism. It's all one thing. That's the point.

so off that Supreme Court decision, we offer you a guide on how to advocate for trans rights in your community:
