Billionaires are funding Andrew Cuomo because they know he’ll work for them, not you.

Scientists, I am asking us to do something that goes against our nature: Step away from fine-grained, nuanced arguments. Zoom WAY out. Share the big picture. Don’t soften the seriousness of this moment with “xxx may be ok in xxx circumstances” talk. It’s uncomfortable AND necessary.

Do you have an interest in B cells and immune-mediated diseases? We generated a multiomics resource of human B cell activation and showed its utility for elucidating disease mechanisms. Check out our manuscript led by @vitoraguiar.bsky.social and Marcella Franco: www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...

These times have proved that it is good to have something like Section 16.3 of Finland's Constitution: 'The freedom of science, the arts and higher education is guaranteed'.

Harvard today, your institution tomorrow. It's all part of the Project 2025 plan to destroy high education in America. All leading US universities depend on federal funding and tuition dollars from international students. They severely curtailed the former. Now they're eliminating the latter.

“I am writing to inform you that effective immediately, Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification is revoked,” according to a letter sent to the university by Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary. A copy of the letter was obtained by The New York Times.

Recently presented our work on how spatial transcriptomics + genetics can reveal putative causal tissue structures for complex traits. 📄 Preprint: doi.org/10.1101/2025... #spatialbiology #genomics #genetics @lifesciences-ge.bsky.social

Postdoc opportunity! At National Genomics Infrastructure in Uppsala we're looking for a postdoc in genomics R&D. Cutting-edge methods dev in an excellent, international environment at the junction between academia and infrastructure. Deadline May 23! www.uu.se/en/about-uu/...

Farewell to friend & labmate Dr. @oahmed.bsky.social whom I hooded today! He's moving on to exciting new things in his postdoc at @nygenome.org with @nevillesanjana.bsky.social & @tuuliel.bsky.social. You are already much missed, Omar! 🫡 ❤️ 🎓

“The results show that, with current trends and policies, the situation is projected to worsen to 2050 for all planetary boundaries, except for ozone depletion.” www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Free in-person registration is open for #MLCB2025! Sept 10-11 at @nygenome.org and online at youtube.com/@mlcbconf. Paper/abstract deadline is June 1, more deets including our fantastic invited speaker lineup at mlcb.org! Please RP.

Keynote talk from Steven McCarroll from last weeks Biology of Genomes conf. My favorite talk of the whole meeting! #bog25 youtu.be/BCRAlmFv7ag?...

Check out our scPrediXcan paper www.cell.com/cell-genomic... Led by the talented @Charles_Zhou12 and supervised by @MengjieChen6 and me, with thanks to many contributors. scPrediXcan integrates deep learning and single cell expression data into a powerful cell type specific TWAS framework.

The human pangenome continues to grow and improve! Release 2 is here! Click through for the details, but this is a pretty amazing dataset including not just the phased assemblies, but PacBio HiFi, ONT Ultralong, Dovetail/Illumina Hi-C, PacBio Kinnex, and Illumina WGS for all samples

Velkabluffi on paljastettu. Orpon hallituksen sopeutuksen tavoitteena oli lähinnä ajaa hyvinvointivaltiota alas ja paisuttaa rikkaiden lompakkoa, eikä vahvistaa julkista taloutta. Sopeutus kuihtuu käytännössä kokonaan pois uusimmassa julkisen talouden suunnitelmassa. @jussisysta.bsky.social

Great to see Canada joining the nation-wide efforts in utilising Genomics to revolutionize healthcare.

Are you a US-based academic that has prior ties to Sweden? Are you also 7-12 years from your PhD? If so, the Foundation for Strategic Research is providing funds of up to $1.5 mil (15m SEK) to bring you back to Sweden! Application deadline Sep 23. strategiska.se/pressmeddela...

What's happening with these grants is much more complicated and mostly unknown. None of the NIH have been officially cancelled. The NIH was just ordered to stop paying. They got the Unis to enforce silence on their own campuses because they thought they were "negotiating" and cld get the funds back.

Kicking off Biology of Genomes with opening remarks by @tuuliel.bsky.social! @cshlnews.bsky.social #bog25

Our new contribution to the quest to find causal GWAS genes! Sam Ghatan from my lab at @nygenome.org led a systematic comparison of eQTLs and CRISPRi+scRNA-seq screens. TL;DR: they provide highly complementary insights, with ortogonal pros and cons. 🧵👇 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Two things that are true at the same time: 1. The massive cuts to science funding in the US is a terrible blow that can't be patched by efforts elsewhere. 2. It's great that the EU and many individuals countries are stepping up; it helps science and many US scientists willing/able to relocate.

Our new work testing nicotine, alcohol, and caffeine exposure across many cell types at once, including their modulation of eQTLs. Take a look!

New preprint! My (now former) postdoc @kvastad.bsky.social led this integration of GWAS and spatial transcriptomics (ST) data to identify tissue structures with enrichment of disease-implicated genes = likely causal drivers of disease biology. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
