If Pierre poilievre eliminated the ministry for women and gender equality, liberal voters would be foaming at the mouth. But it’s their guy, so they don’t care. It’s just temporary, or a savvy strategic move, or some other half baked excuse

My understanding is that objectives for that portfolio take much longer to collect information and prepare programs for. With an election in play and only 5 weeks of campaigning, it doesn’t warrant the work that could be dumped by a new administration. 🤷♂️
Steve first off I agree with your commentary generally 100% of the time. And I totally agree with your point regarding "Ministry for Woman and Gender Equality" and here comes the BUT, let's kick and scream about this after the election and let the dust settle regarding Trump. Awesome job keep it up!
In a week's time a war cabinet was formed, not every portfolio has a seat at the table. With an election being called it will be a caretaker cabinet. Don't cry over a wrinkle in the tablecloth as a leg is falling off and the plates are sliding. Iron later, fix leg first. Elbows up.
Women can govern better than men.. men are too afraid of emasculation to let it happen. Even Trumpism won't shake them. Let the old generations die with their fear and prejudices. Let the young be woke and bold.
World leaders like Merkel. Not local level bullies. Smiths first foray into global trade was to goto Maralago and elbow Ted Cruz out to the way as she could kiss the sweaty orange buttcheeks. And FYI tribes were matriarchal until temporary war chiefs realized they could king-dom. 4000 years later..
Canada won't turn its back on women, minorities or indigenous people. We won't erase them off websites. Liberals won't. TBH the next 4 years is old men throwing mud in the sandbox. More old rich white men will die. Then youth, women & minorities will have a chance to lead and clean up things.
Until the latter half of the last century, there were no women leaders. After almost 2000 years of war and screwing it up. What does the species have to lose? We have wasted so much on war, hate and fear.
The scrubbed websites are just canaries in the coal mine. The bargain we are supposed to get for the centre-right fiscal policies is vocal support of LGBTQ+ people and other marginalized groups. Reporters need to get Carney off banks and trade for a second.
It is not that I don't care, it's that I'm willing to wait until his post election choices are made for his cabinet. I believe a Women's Ministry is not on the chopping block. I'm willing to give PM Carney the benefit of the doubt right now.
Carney kinda disgusts me with his soft courting of the right. If he's already making anti-left statements & attacking women - could just be handing PeePee government by alienating every progressive voter who notices.
I dunno, i think its pretty obvious. You're only allowed to have red lines that apply to the opposition. The second that line overlaps with liberals that's Bad and you are instantly a conservative. Thats just how it works, i don't make up the rules.
This felt like a pretty major political blunder but it was hardly even covered. I think the media and corporate Canada sees Carney as the conservative they want without the overheated rhetoric and culture war games. And they're correct.
Federal Department of Women & Gender Equality in 🇨🇦 recently announced up to $40 million for 170 women’s & Indigenous women’s orgs. Work done is important - not Minister's gender! Inclusion rocks!
He didn’t eliminate it. Several portfolios were rolled together to consolidate his cabinet to facilitate the election. Once that ordeal is done we will see who and what gets eliminated.
This is the most consequential election of our lifetime. Carney is too right for me, but I put the country before myself in this election. If Poilievre gets in, we will have no country to fight for.
We have 2 choices. That’s real life. Pick a side. It’s easier to deal and push a Carney government than it EVER will be a Polievre government. Do we play the game that Palestinian Americans did? A no vote, a vote for a party with zero chance of winning will ensure a Polievre victory. 🙄😏
Stay on topic. I’m a first wave feminist, and though I’m not impressed, I see it for what it is. If the left is gonna cannibalize itself more, we will end up with a Cuckservative government who will implement a Handmaid’s Tale here. Geez.
Jesus, it’s so much faster to just say you’re a Liberal partisan. What’s there to be ashamed of? You like the bank guy. No need to bring the left into this! Carney sure won’t.
I’ve got nothing to be ashamed of, and as long as Carney wins, you won’t either. Your post demonstrates partisan behaviour more than mine. These volatile times call for unity, not wishful thinking. Canada can help hold back the wave of fascism in the world with this next election, or help it. #iykyk
I agree. The left (and I count myself as left-leaning) always cannibalizes itself into obscurity. Zero foresight. Zero planning. Zero cooperation. It's frustrating. Look at what happened in Ontario. We split the vote and now we're stuck with Ford for 4 more years.
Apparently. I've been following Steve for a while now from TikTok and it's so disappointing that he can't see the bigger picture. It's like "Yes, Steve, that sucks, but at least we have the right to choose, the right to vote, and a frickin country."
I’m also not impressed, but leftist politics always does this. It looks like a victory might be on the horizon, so let’s shout ourselves in the foot. I’m also a 57 year old feminist who has worked in shelters for the last 15 years, a Polievre victory would be catastrophic.
I think what you both are misunderstanding is that the Liberals are not left. Especially not leftist. A liberal victory is a centre-right win, and Canadians have been fooled for decades into buying this bogus narrative.
Canada is traditionally more liberal than the US, but current Conservatives are basically Republicans.
The Liberals are centrist who focus on economy AND social programs. They check enough of my boxes for this election, especially competence. NDP need 4 years to rebuild and get a new leader.
But hey, I’m sure Polievre will be a champion for women’s rights, the rights of the LGBTQ communities and immigrants. It’s a shame the NDP decided they are no longer relevant.
Right? Don’t even want to imagine PolliNEVER in charge. Jagmeet has been a disappointment; he should have resigned when Trudeau did. Fine with voting Liberal this election.
Me too. The minute the conservatives see the left is doing what it always does, they’ll use that to its advantage. If Carney wins, it’s easier to push for the things we want then it ever will be with Polievre.
Biden and Harris had differing views on Palestine. I also doubt Harris would be reposting video’s about Harris’s Gaza, and pushing for the complete elimination of all Palestinians. It’s easier to push a government willing to be pushed, vs one whose sole purpose is a white nationalist future.
What political world-order would have to exist for a major western party to actively protect the existence of a Palestinian state and how do we get there?
I’m afraid it might be too late. That is the tragedy. I don’t have an answer. I wish I did. In reality this should have been addressed decades ago. 1947 I believe?when Palestinians were removed by force to create Israel. Sorry, I wish I had a grandiose answer to give.
But you don’t understand, he MIGHT add more later on. Don’t you want to gamble on a CHANCE this could change? (Sarcasm here, but want to highlight the risks associated with Carney’s decisions)
You know, I agree with you that it is wrong to eliminate that ministry. I am not going to justify that. What I would ask is, what do you think it will serve to argue this at such a critical time for our country. I would much rather fight it after the election than give the conservatives a platform.
But the ministry is not eliminated. It is just not having a cabinet position appointed. It will be rolled into one of the other departments. Who knows? Maybe they’ve done so well in creating a framework that it’s not necessitating a full time position.
Because if we only care at the “right time” then it’s never the right time. You can hold two truths at once. Carney can be wrong and still the best available option
Sure, humans can hold 2 truths at once. However, when conservatives hear criticism from (what they consider) a lefty, it carries *extra* weight. When coupled with the deluge of dis/misinformation spread by “their team” this cycle, I’m afraid your criticism lends unearned credibility to theirs.
Nice, young’un. 🙄👏 PoilliNEVERe’s popularity was from the anti-Trudeau smear campaign; He and Jagmeet tried to use it for their own anticipated gains. And they had success. Until Trudeau stepped down and all leverage was lost. Think Cuckservatives don’t pay attention? Seen the latest polls?
Jagmeet didn’t have any success going against JT. He did get some things accomplished by working WITH the Liberals, yet less than the Liberals’ own campaign promises.
I’m curious what left criticisms help conservatives in your opinion?
He is wrong with that. I absolutely agree. I think there are bigger fish to fry at this time, with your reach, such as DipShit Danielle cavorting with the Trump regime. Priorities need to be adjusted in a time of threat to our sovereignty.
I’m a woman and I’ve been fighting for women’s rights all of my 64 years. I also know how to prioritize so that fight can continue. If PeePee were elected, it wouldn’t be a ministry being eliminated, it would be women’s rights that would be. We need to pick our battles, at this time.
The ministry is still there,it was not eliminated. A smaller cabinet makes it harder for the Cons to say he is a big spender like Trudeau. Singh would do better if he parked his own ego and allowed someone else to lead the NDP he has become a PP wannabe, just complaining with no solutions.
Did he eliminate what it does? Or did he reclassify it under another portfolio? I haven’t heard enough specifics yet. But I didn’t love hearing that he hadn’t named a minister for it. So I’m assuming a journalist will question it.
He didn’t eliminate it though Steve. He combined it with another department. The office still exists. Not like the minister actually does anything tbh. Just sign shit. The staff does all the work.
I don't want the least worst, I want a party that's going to make it a priority regardless of if it's a token gesture or not. I want at the very least lip service cause it's easier to more to actual action from that then from silence.
I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now, that this is a temporary cabinet. But if he wins and doesn’t change course I’ll be writing to my MP. But for now, a strong side eye and hope that he’ll listen to this particular criticism.
It’s a dumb move but it’s exactly the sort of thing I expect from a centre-right party like the Liberals, so it doesn’t change anything for me—I’ll vote for them if I have to. PP would be worse than Harper, especially in this Trump era.
The Liberals are, ultimately, SO conservative. Status quo all the way, bay-bee! So if we need to hire some mediocre caretakers for another 4 years while the left gets its act together, I guess that’s what I’ll do. :/
I'm willing to vote strategically this time around cause I'm in a blue stronghold that's seeing some shakey ground from this whole mess, but that willingness is dependent on Carney being a candidate I can at least stomach. WAGE and the pipeline shit are starting to make that difficult.
Fair enough, I can’t fault that. I’m waiting for an NDP leadership race before I vote for them again—I really can’t express enough how much I loathe Poilievre. I’ll vote for a literal orangutang if it means keeping him out of office.

That said, I also don’t think we should act like the ministry of gender equality was ever given teeth.
I don’t remember them doing *checks notes* literally anything when NB,SK, and AB attacked trans rights.
I just don’t want it to be that progressives are currently morning the loss of true virtue signalling/ rhetoric.

We never wanted those things anyway. We just aren't allowed to admit it.

100% of Canada is on treaty or unceded territory. That fact alone means we should always have a full cabinet role for First Nations relationships.
