In 1890, the X and Y chromosomes were discovered. It was found that the men who were tested had 46 chromosomes, including an X and a Y, while women who were tested also had 46 chromosomes, including 2 X chromosomes.
So obviously the conclusion was that the Y chromosome defined masculinity.

Fast forward 50 years... and it was found that some men had 47 chromosomes, including 2 X's and a Y, while some women had 45, including only one X. Still no problem with the "Y chromosome defines masculinity" idea.
Then.. it was found out that some men didn’t have an SrY chromosome, not anywhere. Some women did. Other genes were involved. Worse, other factors, such as Androgen Insensitivity made 46,XY people female, and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia masculinised 46,XX people.
In an isolated village of the southwestern Dominican Republic, 2% of the live births were in the 1970's, guevedoces....These children appeared to be girls at birth, but at puberty these 'girls' sprout muscles, testes, and a penis.
I find it fascinating these gender variations are sometimes clustered geographically. Do you have an idea why that may be? Genetic (small gene pool in isolated communities) or environmental?
In the 90s, it was found that hormonal hiccups in the womb caused some parts of the body to develop as one sex, others as the other, regardless of genetics.
It's true that genes and chromosomes get swapped around all the time but absent our deliberate intervention (only now even possible) it'll take a lot of generations for that to become established in the common genome.
This same son is majoring in molecular & cellular biology by the way. His interests are genetics, immunology, & virology. Sending him this 😂
I figured the born one way and then puberty takes them a different way but couldn't find anything about it. Thank god I stumbled upon this thread.
There is hope! Each generation, the Y loses genes getting smaller & smaller.
I can't wait.
Trans women are female.
The decision to say “this thing is biological sex and this is gender and they’re different” isn’t science; it’s habit.
Or what is seen now a product of evolution?
In the time before multicellular life, a phage (bacteria-infecting virus) evolved that allowed cells to exchange genetic information.
Basically, gender started off as a disease.
Also I really wish this site had edit functions.
This is also remind people that they stopped checking the chromosomal pairs of male athletes when it turned out complicated. No one wanted to know that their boy heroes could have been girls.
It's got to be simple right?
What am I missing ?

But there is a workaround.
Thank you for this thread.
Things_And_Issues concerning anything related to sex have been culturally difficult to talk openly in the Western societies for hundreds of years.
We people need facts, not fear, funnies, hopium. Thanks for the 🧵 ChristopherE.

Nobody who needs to be convinced will read it or believe it.
I just want to ask you not to use intersex people as a prop to argue with transphobes. We have our own challenges and unique experiences outside of the trans experience.
When we’re only used as a ‘gotchya’ against transphobes it harms our community.
Although generally, I’ve had more luck de radicalizing transphobes by not trying to use science or research.
If they followed the science, they wouldn’t be a TERF in the first place. They can’t logic their way out of a position that they didn’t logic their way into.
Let everyone live the best version of their life as they possibly can.
Love in all forms is so much more powerful than hate.
However men it seems represent to me pure sexual energy. It almost is like a aura that surrounds them and draws you or at least me in
Just as I don’t understand men who like to fish & hunt and get rowdy.
I as well can’t identify with the natural way the relationship between a man & woman progresses.
And that is fine. It’s the difference that is the difference
But as a female I understand loving a man so much you want to give life to his form.
I think it’s a natural instinct. But 1 that Trans individuals can never know.
