The mainstream media is never going to get better. Quit begging them to change and instead support liberal/progressive media with your attention, shares, and donations/ad dollars.

I agree with this. But no longer think it's possible for liberals to do it. If you want an example of why i think that? Look at how many people stopped using liberal and started using leftist.
I mourn the demise of unbiased media. There was a shining moment in journalism when we genuinely believed that journalists and newspapers OUGHT to (and could) publish the unvarnished whole truth. Now we're heading back to the days when newspapers shamelessly trumpeted the politics of their owners.
It's corporate media, and their mandate is profit over truth and fairness. All the sanewashing and bothsidesism is a joke and erasing what it means to be a journalist.
We still deserve better with MSM. It should be a requirement for a NEWS program to stick to the facts. LIES are not FACTS and should be a reason to pull the NEWS license and brand it Infotainment. If it's not FACT based, it's not NEWS. Opinion shows are infotainment too.
Partisan media is no better. We need honest not biased reporting. The #news media industry can be reformed. We just need much stricter rules and to eliminate corporations. If board members r liable 4 news stories they publish, the industry will clean itself up quickly. #uspoli #cdnpoli
I exclusively watch France 24 news. Free streaming app. Real international journalism with an unbiased viewpoint. US news is given proper coverage along with Europe, Africa, and Asia, arts and culture. Try it. https://www.france24.com/en
There's no incentive for them to nor any reason to trust them if an incentive is provided. Time and time again, they've chosen to dance to the tune of misinformation, propaganda, and outright lies.
I'm curious what people think of Breaking Points around here. I've been a subscriber for a few years now, and I really like it, but I rarely see it mentioned anywhere.
24hour news isn’t… it’s all about selling opinions and predigested stories with ready made interpretations, and to create ad and click revenue. Most of the time they do attribute stories to a paper … I just go there
Media is a tool 2 use wisely not foolishly devoid of characteristic spin(s). I favor honesty over depravity any day of week until media in general realize its better to strictly stay center-lane on this interstate road filled divergent of traffic all in the same directions but different agenda(s)...
It clearly doesn't mean I completely agree with nor endorse certain points of any of their policy(s), practice(s), that pits a human factor of being peacefully without fear nor overt favor over anyone else as I traverse my life before my time to retire. https://youtu.be/DGKsmtw7vmM?si=vtEWtZhNNjMKcavD
I refuse to affiliate with left or right, liberal or progressive as they all have their issues and set in their ways. This is also true with organized religion(s) as a victim of sexual molestation by church elders when I was a just 9 years old. While I may vote with forward thinking populus people.
This right here. I’ve canceled WaPo and will be reading The Guardian, The Nation and Pro Publica. Also Bolts is amazing for granular local political news and info.
No wonder the conservatives fought for so long to abolish the Fairness Doctrine. Once that happened, the floodgates of conservative media were opened and we went from Rush Limbaugh to where we are now.
Of course not. Mainstream media is an expensive enterprise.
They have to meet a target ROI, which leads to crap content.
There was a time when network broadcaster did not carry new. The FCC made it necessary for the broadcaster to keep their license
@siriusxmprog.bsky.social Quite a few excellent radio hosts here- @msignorile.bsky.social @stephaniemiller.bsky.social @deanobeidallah.bsky.social @thomhartmann.bsky.social @johnfugelsang.bsky.social @zerlinamaxwell.bsky.social
In some countries, like mine, the mainstream media is overall leaning towards he liberal/progressive side. Yet we still end up with a right-wing government?
After this election I think we are treating the MSM like the 🍊 voters in our lives. We don’t expect them to change for the better so we are cutting them out and changing the channel. Their rating are only going down and keep plummeting.
Agree but the problem is the disengaged allow themselves to be sucked in by the mainstream media run by the greedy fat cats. Perhaps real change could happen if there was a global movement to break these companies up and limit news services to smaller independent providers.
Smaller/solo media can be swayed by waaaaaaaaay less money than the big boiz. Without critical thinking skills, any media will ruin your perspective, and none of them can be good.
The only good thing that may come out of this is that it will force the liberals and progressives to build their own decentralized media ecosystems, because either way that’s one of the main ways we get out of this.
The Left's reliance on legacy media to be gatekeepers of institutional norms is crumbling. Try these: The Guardian, ProPublica, Popular Information, Sludge. The Bulwark & Brian Tyler Cohen on YouTube.
@democracynow.org is one I enjoy. As well as a couple podcasts, chiefly @dollemore.bsky.social & @brittanyepage.bsky.social on their I Doubt It Podcast, as well as their respective YT channels.
Honestly, at the moment, I think people should just take a step back and not listen to anyone at least up through the new year. The drama’s only gonna get worse. It can only have as strong an effect as we allow it, so I say fearlessly turn off everything
@owillis.bsky.social all of that media is great but pales in comparison to BILLIONAIRE FUNDED media on cable,Internet/PODCASTs etc. Not to mention the big sums of $ they pump into HERITAGE CATO AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INST etc my favorite MOMS FOR LIBERTY😂ET Al. Niche media didn't make create RW MONSTER
I absolutely support this. However Dont kid yourselves the RW COLOSSUS we see today was built largely because of AM RADIO 📻 in the late 80s & beyond (LIMBAUGH AND HIS CLONES) & FOX NEWS in the mid 90s. Everything else, Breitbart OANN NEWSMAX now ROGAN/MUSK are made possible because of them.
Re: the Guardian, I was going to (re)subscribe soon but I'm holding off for now after reading this from Carole Cadwalladr today: 464 journalists at the Guardian and Observer (print version) are going on strike over a questionable sale of the latter https://broligarchy.substack.com/p/how-to-speak-truth-to-power
Yup. Quit begging them. Quit being surprised or shocked. Quit simpering like Susan Collins about how concerned or disappointed you are. Quit bringing your breathless examples of grunts from pigs. You shouldn't expect any better.
And when you post Wordle results you're telling on yourself.
Curious who you would say are the best liberal/progressive media outlets and journalists doing good work today. I want to make sure to follow and support them.
Just remember 50
Years ago we had an entirely liberal establishment media. The conservatives began winning in spite of it. This is the paradigm to that. We can prevail nevertheless, because they do not control EVENTS.
The problem is that people on the right are doing the same thing, and this will ultimately drive people further apart and further into the arms of propagandists with agendas. Exhibit A: the movement of young, white men to Trump.
The “mainstream media” should be the glue that holds society together by reminding us of our shared values and goals as a nation. Splitting this into tribalist takes is the beginning of the end.
The mainstream media has been overrun by corporate greed, not partisanship. What we need is nonprofit media that presents the news factually and without click bait editorializing. Left-biased media is still biased, and will ultimately betray the trust of their audience as a consequence.
Looks like Don Trump Jr is stating a zero MSM presence in the WH press room possibly--will be reserved for independent journalists with large followings for the most part. It's a new and great day!! Since Rogan may be part of an MSNBC/MXNBC lineup if Musk buys it, I'm sure he'll get a seat:)
@mississippifreepress.org is a good local news organization to support. They report the truth about Mississippi politics. And they also report on national politics. Donations welcome. @kimberlygriffin.bsky.social
And pray that Elon doesn’t buy MSNBC and the other Comcast spin offs. ATT is supposedly selling DirectTV to Texas Pacific Group, private equity group. Now I mostly get my news from BBC and podcasts on YouTube.
Sorry to respectfully disagree, but for all the baggage and fleas, it's news. I can deal with bias as long as the news is covered. As soon as there is ANYTHING even close to WaPo and the NYTimes we can talk - but right now you're talking fantasy.
The mainstream media has three major problems: a corporate bias, a neutrality bias, and out-of-touch anchors. They'll never bite the hand that feeds, rarely address class struggles, they'll play left and right as equal when clearly not, and multi-millionaires will circle-jerk each other.
The role of L/P media is more to focus on and interpret reporting by honest traditional reporters. The conundrum is whether to subscribe to eg NYT, WAPO etc to support real journos while still supporting independents. It gets very expensive for an average person.
My impression is that much of L/P media relies on the reporting skills of print media reporters. A few, but not many, have the resources to do serious reporting (the old fashioned legwork that gets to the bottom of things), particularly national stories. Local independents are good but getting rare.
Maybe more progressive/left than liberal. Liberals proved this past election they’re totally okay going further right to try and push their candidate, and that should not be condoned. Harris might’ve stood a better chance if she’d tried to get progressives and leftists rather than Cheney republicans
I have a better idea. Regardless of the source (e.g. cable news, podcasting, social media), demand TRUTH over bias. Demand all political leaders, Democrats and Republicans, to STOP smearing the other side.
I'm just saying do not get your hopes up too high that you lose sight of whats real and now. I'm always cautiously optimistic because it seems that we never learn our lesson. But we do need to fight.

Y'all never learn, liberalism and the sanctimony of liberals is the problem.
Conservatives just pounce on it.
it’s time to turn our back on the manipulative conservative owners
ENOUGH!!
