And no thanks to EC. They made it ungodly difficult.
Lineups were insane and many who wanted to vote couldn't because they had to get to work or other engagements. It's actually an embarrassment that in an election so important, where it is obvious turnout will be high, that EC prepared so poorly.
What are you talking about? It was a holiday. Don’t be so negative. It’s unCanadian. It’s not an embrassement, it’s actually good news that the Canadian people are so engaged. Those who couldn’t stay will no doubt return to vote. They have 3 days until the 21st and again on the 28th of April.
Sure it's good news, but I live in a resort town where the only holiday was for teachers and gov't workers. Everyone else was biz as usual and no one should have to wait 2hrs to vote. The polling station I was assigned had only one person checking names and one ballot box—nuts for a town of 15,000!
They didn’t have to wait. If the wait was impossible or too onerous they could leave & return later or on any of the other days. The turnout for the first day was high so it took longer in some cases. It’s a small problem in the big scheme of things. But if it makes you feel better to complain …
I agree, we need to be patient. Knowing when and how many people will vote is a best guess. Previous years only had 30-40% voter turnout, this year is unique
Hardly anyone works on Good Fri. though. In Elections Canada's defence, they have the monumental task of hiring 10K people in short order & given this is the shortest number of days for an election, it makes it even harder.
On election day, BY LAW, all employers must give staff 4 PAID hrs to vote.
Are they motivated by the very real fear of the collapse of Western Democracy and coming out in droves for Carney or is the paper vs plastic straws people showing up for PP?
In my neighbourhood there are a lot of people who always voted Con ( retired police, retired bankers, accountants) the ones I’ve talked to are voting for Carney this time. Not a statistical sample but it gives me hope. They are appalled by what’s happening in the US.
Which is good, but we can't be complacent because a lot of working class folks are voting Conservative, including people who previously voted Liberal or NDP.
Carney will only win if people get out to vote. We only have to look south of the border to see what happens when people stay home.
And I am impressed that the carbon tax for consumers was fixed on Carneys day 1. More cash in working class pockets. Also Carney has economic savy to deal with The nutbar in Dc.
Poilievre does deserve credit for convincing 35+% of Canadians that he's going to help them, when he doesn't even have a platform. It's quite the marketing feat.
Similarly to a snake oil salesman or telemarketer or conman. He's very good at fooling people.
Anecdotally sensing the same - esp amongst young voters who like Carney but "...don't feel like waiting in line..." I am finding new ways to counter, wishing I didn't have to.
In my small town, I got there at 5 p.m., expecting people to be at Easter dinner. I was wrong, a 20-minute wait, I was told in the morning that the line up extended outside into the rain.
I think there should be a disclaimer on the Chiron as Fox is airing, stating that the conversations on this network are purely entertainment. After all, that's what Fox told the court when Dominion voting machines sued them.
It has been before. I remember voting for liberals on Easter long weekend in the past… maybe when we booted Harper out! Such a happy day! #nevervoteconservative
Pollsters in the USA are so full of crap, if the shit ever hits the fan they'll be used with lobbyists as crab bait even before the swamp critters. Nobody tell them.
No. I think the numbers will be higher because it is a 4 day weekend for many people, and many people will take advantage of voting rather than being in a rush on voting day.
We have Conservatives in Canada that are like Republicans in US were they can get super obnoxious but they don't get as violent / threatening as in the US
Does the U.S. get a bit of credit for this? Seeing how they showed Canadians how quickly authoritarianism can take hold?
And of course the saber rattling?
Attacking our sovereignty galvanized us & getting lucky that Carney🧠🇨🇦 put his hat in the ring as the right guy at the right time with a solid platform to build us into a strong self sufficient 🇨🇦 has us excited for democracy & the future despite any bumps along the way! 💪🏼♥️🇨🇦👊🏼
We always vote on the first early voting day. Typically, we don't wait more than a few minutes, but yesterday, we waited between 20-30 minutes - which nobody in the line seemed to mind, including my wife & me.
I take it as a good sign - we need better turnouts, AND to bury Poilievre for good.
Or @charlieangus104.bsky.social said on @meidastouch.com that it could mean a government is being turfed out! I won't exhale until the 28th! I'm not taking anything for granted, we must resist fascism in @Canada. #cdnpoli #TeamCarney #NeverCons #NeverPoiLIEvre
That and I feel that Canadians aren't as divided party wise as the US. One of the things that went wrong in the US election was that Democrat "supporters" wouldn't vote unless so-and-so does something or they won't get their vote. In other words, hold their vote hostage
America has generally poor voter participation though...like 30% don't bother in federal elections and even worse in most statewide races...this goes to 2022....ironic but Covid was good for turnout because most could vote by mail...what a concept.
I feel that a lot of people expected Biden to do EVERYTHING he promised but when you barely have the house and senate seats needed to progress, it can be problematic.
The thing is Biden did DO a lot....but sadly his accomplishments weren't promoted endlessly. Being competent is boring....holding a nation hostage is exciting, at least in terms of media eyeballs....I blame Biden's staff in part, but he's a man of a different era and so was low-key mostly.
It's so true. One guy at CBS once said that even if Trump was bad for the country, he's good for the ratings. At least Biden didn't throw a temper tantrum when he got criticized
Let's hope!! I am hoping that people are voting Country over Party. My brother is NDP and I said to him, not today. You have to vote to ensure that the Mark Carney's Liberals get in and he is voting Liberal as well as the rest of his family.
That was one of the most ridiculous parts of the election. It taught me that way to many folks are willing to burn it all down if they don't get what they want.
My brother compared it to taking a bus ride. You can wait at the bus stop for the one that will never come, but that you think will get you to exactly where you want, or you can take the one that gets you closest to where you want to be.
One of the things that just annoyed me was the situation on Gaza with the pro-Palestinian protests. These people don't realized that if Biden / Harris took their side, the Israeli / Jews would turn on them thus costing them double the votes. Gaza was a no-win situation and they didn't realize it
No candidate is ever everything one voter wants but one has to look at the big picture. In 2024 it wasn't hard to see the writing on the wall....who better to choose, a competent, qualified woman who'd put good people in position to govern or a grifting, felon-rapist who cares only for himself?
Assuming that the election wasn't stolen, a lot of people voted for Trump because of misogyny, racism and they hate the idea of a woman running the US. In addition, Trump was seen as a martyr when he was convicted of those felonies and people felt that the convictions were "political."
It's strange that people prefer voting at the advance polls over the Elections Canada office. Some ridings took 2 hrs to vote while for some it was ~10 mins.
I have a family member working this election, says it is just as busy today as yesterday. I think this is fantastic, democracy in action! No matter the outcome, this is a good thing.
Yeah I agree. I voted yesterday at my local community centre and the advance poll was in a small side room whereas on election day there's multiple polls in the big gymnasium for my area of the riding I'm in.
I'm in PP's riding and I hear people have had to wait in line for an hour to vote! EC is adjusting the requirements at polling stations.
That's never happened here before. I'm going tomorrow to vote for Bruce Fanjoy
I would love for him to lose his seat, he was first elected when I lived in his riding and he has accomplished nothing but amassing wealth. Zero legislative credits, nothing but a loud mouth.
Please post afterwards whether the election card was really that obnoxiously long as being posted. I can't tell if it's real or exaggerated for clicks! 🤷♀️🤦🏼♀️
I agree. And as you probably know by now, it’s a known Conservative tactic to confuse grand mom&dad into voting for “whatever name they can remember” (in this case Poilievre). They have successfully done it in the past
Before they put party affiliation on the ballot I remember one grandmom who forgot to check the name of her local candidate and voted for the one with the nice Irish name later discovering that he was the candidate for the communist, not conservative, party
It's PP's riding~shocker. Takes away votes from Fanjoy. I'm guessing most or all names added ran as independent. This is beyond obnoxious. Obvi EC allowed it or the ballots wouldn't have been printed but I hope the riding puts up a stink & something gets done to not allow this kind of fuckery. 🚫🇨🇦⚖️
He may end up losing his seat. Usually Advance polls never have line up. In fact, their are rarely line ups for day of elections. Go!! Mark Carney's Liberals!
Advanced voting has become very popular! Last time I voted I went 10 minutes before my polling station closed, no line, was out in less than 5 minutes. 👍🏼
Is t it strange when a a friend says that, I get it. I sent Mark Carneys plan to a friend and he said yeah… I’m conservative but can see Carneys the guy for the job. Anyway !!! Vote! That’s the important thing - we are #markcarney for the 🏆 win.
If it’s more convenient or if you can’t make it to your assigned voting station on advance voting days or on election day, you can vote at any Elections Canada office up until 6 p.m. on April 22. There are about 500 Elections Canada offices open.
Thank you Vahl. I travelled with work extensively throughout every area of the US for 3 decades & met a lot of people whom I really like & became friends with. (I also met the right wingers, which was unpleasant, but we have them, too, just less.)
I really hope democracy returns there soon.😔
You and me both. Many of us are scared here. And a lot of us approve the boycotts you're giving us. I just wish that 47 didn't throw the wrench in our friendship.
Canadians are all concerned about what 47 is doing to the US.
In response to the tariffs, almost every Canadian is trying to not buy anything Made In USA. However, we do so sadly, bc we know it affects individuals. In the long run, it will hopefully create backlash that helps brings him down.
No worries. I've been trying to buy things from Mexico and Canada! Many of us hate this, but it's necessary. 47 needs to be removed and the journey to it will be painful. But it needs to be done. ❤️
Waited in line awhile for advanced polls? Imagine being so fed up w. being disenfranchised you grab everyone you know & yell, “We’re going voting, NO MATTER WHAT!” Then storming past wealthy landowners to aggressively… participate in democracy.
Waiting in line for awhile ain’t so bad, Canada.
afaik there have been no riding specific polls done for Vancouver Centre. 338's forecast is based on national polls, history, and vibes. we will see whether it is accurate in two weeks.
Indeed. I haven't either - and given that the same seems to be happening in so many cities and provinces, I don't think it's caused just by the holiday. I think people are motivated, and that's great for our democracy.
a friendly reminder that the US MSM thought the huge turn out for their elections was people voting for Harris...
Voters yet to Vote ... get out there. On the 29th we don't want to learn we had one chance and it is gone.
💯 A high turnout could simply mean enthusiastic Poilievre voters coming home. Everyone go vote like our country depends on it, because it does. #ElbowsUp
Absolutely! Down here Trump got 77 million and Harris got 75 1/2. 90 million eligible voters stayed home. I consider the MAGA voters to be victims of a cult leader. I consider the 90 million that stayed on the sofa traitors to their country.
We won’t know until April 28th. We have four days of advance voting over this long weekend; Election Day is April 28th and we’ll have results that evening 🤞 Our polls on the West Coast are the last to close - usually the election is pretty much over before our votes are tallied. Hoping for Carney!
The Liberals are akin to Democrats (led by Mark Carney) and the Conservatives are like the Republicans, even down to a Trump-wannabe leader. The NDP is further left; the Green Party focuses on climate change and environmental issues. Voters need to be careful not to split the vote in some ridings
She’s running again! Per the last poll I saw, she was neck & neck with the Conservative. Hopefully people in her riding will vote strategically to get her in - we need her voice in Parliament. (And thanks for your interest in our election -much appreciated!)

From what I saw, the polls showing Carney leading are wrong.
Progressive voters need to get out to vote. And bring several people with you!

Always worth stopping by to see how the lines are looking. Happy Easter weekend all.
Need to take Fox off the airwaves in Canada. Like RT news.
Trump style
Please VOTE.

I hope Canada Elections is not losing voters due to long waits. That would be tragic 😔
Don't forget to vote.
Canada Strong! 🇨🇦
That's never happened here before. I'm going tomorrow to vote for Bruce Fanjoy
Seems pretty undemocratic!
Go Vote!!
💪
❤️ An American who loves all of you.
I really hope democracy returns there soon.😔
Much love. ❤️
