Same ignorant voters will vote opposition again just as they did w Biden. They voted to destroy our country for a cheaper banana. Any Dem rebuilding will be blamed for the pain it causes.
Agree, though I fear it’s even worse. Whatever court decisions we see the next 6-12 months will be moot. The damage will already be done.
The lingering personnel problem is huge. So too, are the viruses DOGE has installed. May take decades to recover system integrity. Our global partnerships? Gone.
How, pray tell, will a Democrat ever win a presidential election ... even if there is an election? Now that the "unitary executive" is incharge, controlling the SCOTUS and having taken "the power of the purse" from congress, tell me how.
Could the employees who have been let go be re-instated? I assume / hope someone is keeping track (union). Surely they should all be able to sue for wrongful dismissal. Could the entire federal workforce go on strike? Along with other unions?
It's not, tho. It's framing a scenario where Dems get back power and instead of doing anything for working people, they struggle just to get back to the previous status quo. It's a tailor made excuse to do nothing. The reason we're here is because that status quo wasn't working for anyone but the 1%
I agree with you 100%, but i think the issue is that even if the next party wants to implement serious reform, how do they get anything done with entire depts filled with trump loyalists? Do they fire everyone and cause more chaos? Keep everyone and hope they aren't sabotaging things?
You do what Garland should have done to the DOJ first day in office. Throw out all the Trump cronies, clean house and proceed from there. Instead we got a bunch of foot dragging and lame excuses like “ FBI field office is not cooperating”.
I recently bought a house to resell that had a room with pet-urine stained walls. The walls and flooring had to be gutted, replaced. Trump/Musk are pissing and defecating all over the walls of the federal government. It will have to be fully gutted, replaced in 4 years to get rid of their stench.
Exactly. Get rid of those who swore allegiance to the Constitution, are dedicated and good at their jobs and then when shit goes sideways, as is already happening, restaff with MAGA loyalists.
While I agree that this is very, very bad and will have lasting damage, the OPPORTUNITY for a Dem president to reshape the federal gov after this is enormous. Status quo ante should not be the goal. It's time for visionary leadership from Dems, not working within the system - the system is toast.
It will be an uphill struggle…but that’s a battle I’d love to have us fight. First, let’s focus on using this energy to get rid of the current fascist autocrats
Sounds like galaxy brains & Dems already trying to frame excuses for why they can't do anything for the working class, actually. The "we're just trying to get back to normalcy" bs ain't gonna cut it. The don't need to put the toothpaste back in the tube, they need to open a brand new dental clinic.
I'm hoping for an acronym that covers "Congress already voted for this spending and this is illegal" so we can #Hashtag it to every post. It's getting lost in the necessary conversations discussing 'what' he is doing, and we shouldn't allow for that.
I remember when Biden had his secret service protection shifted to those he could trust because of fear of Trump loyalists in 2021. We can't trust people who are more loyal to Trump than the constitution.
They’re just applying the courts model, that they worked towards for decades before the Democrats noticed, to the executive. Fill it with your soldiers and it won’t matter who’s in office.
I hate to be a downer, but it's pretty optimistic to believe there will be a fair and free election in 4 years. Trump's DOJ has already made it clear that foreign election interference is A-OK. And that's just the tip of the election interference iceberg.
Next the Democratic president will attempt to fire at least some of those political appointees. predictably SCOTUS will then rule that the president doesn't have the power to do it.
My thing is that I can't in good faith recommend students take a hard look at federal jobs unless they meet very specific circumstances that were not relevant last July when one of my mentees landed a great job that they no longer have.
This is such a bad take. Literal DC, consultant brained stuff. The reason we're here is because the status quo wasn't working for the working class. Dems don't need to go back to how things were, they need change how govt works & provide material benefits to the working class.
I understand how an office functions. You can't replace an entire office with a bunch of idiots and expect it to work again. You are talking about POLICIES that don't work. That's not what this discussion is about.
It's all about framing why we should temper our expectations that Dems can get anything done. It's you being further propagandized to expect nothing from your representatives.
I said to many when Trump was elected the first time, that it would be a quick jump off a cliff and damage would be irreparable. Biden only got our hands back on the cliff edge - and now with second Trump, we are fucked completely. It will be a long way down. China is laughing.
Before you get there, of course, there's the preceding problem of conducting a free and fair election with a federal government staffed by partisan loyalists.

Civil Service Reform has been rolled back 145 years… the Stalwarts are winning, and the spoils system is back in full force.
