The last office I worked in had white noise playing that changes through the day. Birds chirping in the morning, ocean waves at quitting time. It was nice and helped with conversations not filling the void.
The office I work in expanded back in 2016 so we all moved into a new wing. There are white noise speakers in the ceiling of the new space where I work but there is a bridge to the old building (no white noise) it's crazy walking over there cause you go through the doorway and it's like a library!
My office is smack dab in the center of a school. I am by the gym, playground and cafe. I also have all the severs and switches in my office, what is a quiet office? 😂
Just be glad they are not playing xmas music. I had to wait in the optometrist’s office with it. all re-re-re-dos/covers full of masturbatory improvisation of the tunes.
I once had some new senior manager start where I worked and she didn’t like the noise proofing of a meeting room (she couldn’t yell in there) so she had white noise machines put on everyone’s desks and made them keep them on while she was in the office making conversation completely impossible
my office plays white noise through ceiling speakers throughout the building, it's amazing for droning out the silent sounds of mice clicking and keyboards clacking
When I worked at a funeral home I’d feel this way until a loud mysterious noise were to occur and then I’d be begging for the people noise to come back 😭⚰️
Indeed. I felt like murdering the one I was forced to sit close to at one job. And the bubbling noise from her aquarium screen saver eventually led to me exploding (figuratively of course)
I feel this way so much. I’m sensitive to noise, but I am also sensitive to extreme quietness. Sometimes there needs to be SOMETHING to fill that emptiness. Esp when it’s a shared space with others.
I cannot survive in silence. I start hearing my own pulse in my temple veins, which leads to feeling the blood pulsate my skin, which then feels like worms burrowing closer to my brain. Maddening.
the first thing I bought when I got an office job was a white noise machine. & then it wasn’t enough so I got noise cancelling headphones. 10/10 recommend 💀
I'm sure that you could find from an online sound library a range of 1950s office sound FX; perhaps start with a single distant typewriter and move up to a metropolitan newsroom if that's not enough.
I like when the smell of my transitioned parts fill the void of the room. Its a particularly pleasing smell to us in the community. And bowwwnusss is that it visibly irritates my MAGAt office-mate 😍
Honestly, a low hum of whale sounds could add some personality to the office! There’s something about just the right background noise that makes focus easier, like coffee shops or rain sounds. A little ambience goes a long way!
Buy a speaker, and play one of those “10 hours of silence interrupted by random door knocking” videos. People will get freaked out and make noise very soon.
Our office currently sounds like a haunted Victorian mansion! Wonderful creepy wind noises happening. Thinking I should start walking around with a candlestick to fit the vibe.
Hey have you thought of trying Loops Earplugs? The basic ones take about 16dbz away from the normal 60dbz, I used them last night for the first time and found myself more calm/focused
I can listen to music at work so I just put 1 AirPod in and a loop in the other

It’s my favorite thing to listen to in the morning 🥰

I would prefer it to be more quiet. Like, if there weren’t other people there.
Like, and I know this is crazy, working remote from my home office without huge distractions and two hours of commuting every day. 🤷🏻♂️

Don't love the quiet public bathroom though. THAT really needs some music or white noise or something!!

Or your own whale.
Worst … is a ticking clock
I go to the office, sit down, and join 10 Teams call with people from other offices.
I wish the same could be said about removing noise. Even the best ANC only partially works.
