My kids are much older than yours by a lot. I have to take credits to renew my cert. Now I'm in a program that is 80% of tuition is covered for the endorsement.

*phew* echo Nate: one class at a time. Called on as much support as I could. Was up front with professors about my boundaries and capabilities before signing up for classes (I didn’t take some classes I thought looked cool because the professor didn’t seem flexible).

Didn’t rush myself. Remembered finished and imperfect is better than not finished. Learned to write anywhere, including on my phone whole holding tiny people. Knew my teaching would sometimes be imperfect but worth it in the long run.

Why? I truly love what I study and would prob be studying it anyway so I might as well get credits for it. I also made it a point to do or propose assignments that I would enjoy doing. I def pushed to make my program work for me.

Lot of family support/child care. The fact that my advanced degree would help raise my salary assuaged some of my guilt at missing kiddie time.The community of learners you inherit makes it well worth it though.

I took one class at a time, but even then I had to multitask to an excessive degree. Like, reading and typing on my lunch hour and even working in the car while the hubs drove.

My kids were older. My classes were all online. I took bulk of my classes in the summer when I wasn't teaching.

For me it was a part time MA program designed for working teachers near my school. I quit teaching HS to do the PhD full time, though.

Complete my MAT online while teaching in an urban middle school. Finished just before my wife got pregnant with our firstborn.

Not sure I would’ve finished if we were already parents.

I went part-time, I had partial tuition reimbursement, a partner to help me out at home, and a salary increase when it was all done.

I did an MA when my kids were small (like 3 and 6) and an EdD when they were 10 and 13. 3 and 6 was easier than 10 and 13–I missed out on way more. Supportive partner and children made all the difference.

I went to while working full time when my kids were 7 and 9. What was I thinking?? Wanted the degree & ldrshp opportunities. I had a village that helped a lot. Taught my kids to do their own laundry. They saw me working hard & struggling to do assignments. Kids cheered the loudest at my graduation!

Not very replicable I fear but

How: I did a fully online MEdTech program at a University where I had employee tuition benefits

Why: It was clear to me even then (2018) the ethical technologies dilemma we would be in now

What made it possible: A three adult household & an incredible babysitter

I had to since I did the alternate certification pathway but sheer determination and will got me through it as I was working as a SpEd teacher full time and 2 other jobs part time at the same time
