That's OK. Parents have to parent, even in the information age. "Parent" doesn't mean it's easy. But at school, we decide what our kids are exposed to. Exposing children to sexuality is GROOMING, which is CHILD SEX ABUSE, which should be PROSECUTED to the fullest extent of the law.
I was listening to your wrong about, One story was about a person with a library card changing their mind about LGBTQA rights and conversion therapy. Because they read books from the community. Weird. Perspective fosters empathy and growth. Dangerous dangerous stuff.
With respect I just deactivated my Twitter account cuz the platform was no longer reliable & sketchy af. I used to be an archivist so I’ll put it this way: Books are the hard copies when digital resources fail.
I'd bet that woman has a constant barrage of some really depraved thoughts. It's easier for her to blame the libraries than it is to face her own desires.
I was reading a book that got banned in my old high school recently and was thinking the whole time "homestuck is 0% sexually explicit and even it is more secualy explicit than this"
tbh i think the default assumed motivation for book banners like this should be "so their kids can't accurately describe what their pastor is doing to them to the authorities"
I was surprised kids were still reading books when they have instant access to stuff that would have blown my mind when I was younger. Oh yeah, Big Tech donors, guess book publishers weren't paying their conservative protection money.
Back when I was teaching I would overhear students talk about erotica they've read but I wasn't allowed to assign Looking for Alaska by John Green because the parents called him a communist trying to indoctrinate kids into a sex cult. Ma'am, your kid is reading 50 Shades, I think they are fine.
Unless you are homeschooling your kid, keeping them off all computers/phones and not letting them hang out with friends, they're going to see it all at some point
Of course if you did do all that, congrats 🎉 your kid is probably socially stunted and will be worse off once they see the real world
And there are trans kids who have died in recent memory because their parents tried that, so it's a matter of "if" they see the real world with that thorough of abuse
The whole YA genre is so demeaning, when I was a kid my parents encouraged me to read anything & everything. Nabokov, Stephen King, Judy Blume, Spider-Man, go for it! This whole idea of YA literature is demeaning to kids, let’s them think their minds aren’t mature enough for adult concepts. My 2¢
It’s only demeaning if you limit young people to YA & juvenile books. They might be easier to read or address issues people in that age group face. I still read Judy Blume, loved the Hunger Games, Moxie, Allegedly.
Libraries have books for all readers, and allow patrons to access what they want.
I respect that. But it’s too easy .. and tempting for 3rd, 4th, fifth (!!) grade kids (and teachers) 2 get into Captain Underpants & other garbage that has no redeeming value. And that’s not YA per say but its the slippery slope of YA imho. They should be reading Arabian Knights, and other classics.
my mom was reading harry potter to me as a kid until the catholic moms got to her, then we switched to narnia, which??? whatever. then golden compass came out and it was the same thing all over again. years later, the whole fam watches harry potter for movie night LOL what even is life
Yeah, I think it depends on what is being banned. I realize kids can probably get on Pornhub but I still don't think Hustler or Barely 18 should be in school libraries. I absolutely support free thought of any literary works. (No, Playboy still doesn't count tho, even if "just for the articles")
"Yeah, I think it depends on what is being banned."
Yes indeed.
"I still don't think Hustler or Barely 18 should be in school libraries."
No one has ever suggested that that I'm aware of. But I think if someone did, pretty much everyone would agree with you.
I'm the politician that wants to force all schools to carry Hustler in their libraries. I also want to allow kids to smoke crack on school premises and make it okay for them to bring iron swords and challenge fellow students to duels
First off, I don’t know what school libraries you’ve been in but I can confidently say those are not available, even via inter library loan.
Second, a book existing in a space does not force anyone to read it. That’s what separates libraries from curriculum.
I realize respondibg to you is a mistake, but this “pastor” is unhinged. Pictures of naked people are not inherently sexual, and the idea that they are is part of the attitude that allows predators to exploit children.
I couldn’t help responding either and agree, education can protect kids.
And would likely be more informative than the 70s Miracle of Life detailed birth video we watched in 8th grade - which just traumatized everyone.
The contents of that book sound a lot more normal than the things you admit they’ll be seeing on Porn Hub.
Seeing (drawings of) an array normal bodies and learning that regular sex exists is healthy to balance out what kids absolutely will see in porn. Why do you want kids thinking porn is normal?
All the school librarians out there who want to spend all their time cataloguing old porn had better to take notice that at least some concerned citizens think they ought to be cataloguing books on how to read well instead
kindergarteners should be able to access the anal milfs series, specifically movies 3-7 for historical purposes. This is a real view that real people hold.
That happens because they are so scared of everything that they don't even know how the world actually functions or what is actually available to kids. Lost in the past that they cconstantly.gorify as the hight of perfection. 🤮

Probably exists too, because SFM creators.

My only concern is that they have no problem with actual representations of child sexual abuse…it’s worth a shot, nothing to lose.
Yes indeed.

I'd guess... lemme see... carry the three... divide by pi... take the sine.... zero.

I'm not really sure how your comment relates to the conversation about school book bans.
