So "There's a Red Key that Opens the Red Door" isn't Adventure-like, but "There's a Rooster That Wakes Up The Sleeping Bear Blocking Your Way"?
How you obtain and use the key item is very distinct between genres but that is not encapsulated here.
I still think adventure games need more than "has key items" otherwise it runs into the "If Everything is an adventure game..." problem

In that spirit: Adventure Game - a type of game that used to be considered hardcore and difficult before women started playing it.
Or a Monkey Island style Uncharted game! But that's pretty much Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
