Smiling is important. More people are watching than just the devoted bigots. For many watching, this was likely their first exposure to real trans folks. For those who are ignorant, rather than cruel, it’s likely that they saw a proud minority underdog defending itself from a malicious oppressor.

In war there is a need to fight battles that you can’t win. In such circumstances where you are hopelessly outgunned the goal is not victory but survival. They couldn’t win this fight, but they have positioned themselves such that they may still have a fighting chance in the days to come.

You know what the regret rate is for trans surgeries? Around 1%. For comparison, the regret rate for knee surgery is around 15%. Detransitionners are a tiny minority within the tiny minority that are trans people. 1/2
