It sucks to see that Nintendo 2 Switch direct do everything right only for the prices to feel so deflating. I feel like the console itself is fair but games should never be hitting 80 dollars under any circumstance (even if it’s 50 in a bundle). The fact their tech demo game is paid too is INSANE.

But... yeah, it's saddening.
I saw someone say for them the switch will roughly be around $700+ while I heard in Japan it's only $400
I love everything that was shown, but the prices really throw me off, and I can only imagine other Canadians will feel the same.
The audacity to make people pay for this one is really fucking funny though, I can’t lie
Nintendo Land: a decent bundle bonus
1-2 Switch: what
Switch 2 Tour: fuck off
Like did they play Astrobot & go "That showcased console stuff & people happily ate it up"
Because it was a game. Not literally a day 1 digital tech demo LOL
On the other hand, I legit have no clue how the hell Nintendo could ever expand their tech demo one bit
I don't think it would sell though given such a negative precedent
Unless they start allowing first property title price reductions again, I don't see how they thought this would work
If it’s cause of tariffs, they need to be transparent about it.
like, why isn't it bundled like Wii Sports and Nintendo land were?

Also, like, most ppl still have MK8. I'm sure thats enough game to old ppl over til a price drop
🤦🏻♂️
MAKES ASTRO BOT LOOK LIKE A GOD SENT X'D
ceos and shareholders are the ones trying to get more
and the games won't go back to being complete because of that, dlcs,
week 1: mariokart for the switch TWO
week 2: ice soup
(sorry i jumped the gun a bit there)
cant wait for the fully industy to implode the second sony announced the ps6 costs $1000
i pray y'all don't give in.
and then SOMEONE released a really bad adaptation of the ET movie and everything imploded
This may be inevitable.
We didn’t have to pay for Astro’s Playroom and this is that minus All Of The Gameplay
Think about how different they are positionally. Think about how weak launches like PS4 are, but how they grow over time
I think they're more focused on margins per buyer rather than total, at least early on
It's not sustainable forever but neither is any other part of crapitalism 🤷♀️
Also, most incomes *haven't* risen with inflation so most people are worse off than they were years ago.
Wages aren't near the same increase
The unadjusted numbers are the red line. Conveniently enough, it lines up close to $60,000 in 2017 and $80,000 in 2023.
So, ok, 5% increase compared to 30%
The same author did make an inflation-adjusted individual income chart, but it's unclear to me whether "average" here is median or mean.
Prices will continue to spiral upwards for as long as you allow them to get away with it
But not for this
Yaaaaaay…
in fact a lot of choices they did make a little more sense when you realize the yen is so incredibly weak right now
And then it had a pricetag...
Mii plaza (3ds) and face raiders: preinstalled on every system.
Nintendo land: came with some systems.
Switch: no pack-in “tech demo” game.
Switch 2: whelp, you gotta pay to see what this overpriced console can do.
It's already going to cost me over $600 to get the system, $700 if I go with the MKW bundle.
That’s the message - just repeat that over and over.
I'm ngl it'd be hilarious if THIS of all things is what inspire an attempt on the greasy orange fuck's life
Games do not cost the same to develop as they did 20 years ago, they cost much more.
We either pay our devs dirt and still see studios shut down globally. Or we make the change that's needed to happen for years.
Contrastingly I've had really good experiences buying cheaper indie games. I usually don't go more than twenty bucks for a single game (steam sales help me out on this).
Thing one is, no, I'm actually getting less value. Narratives thinner, gameplay weaker and/or wonkier, graphical fidelity over aesthetics. They're asking $60 for an output that reminds me of the $30 games of yesteryear.
Studios want to shoot for the fences of content, but undercut staff to do so. Maybe a game doesn't need to be made to cost tens of millions in order to be a good game with a price consumers agree with
But that strategy makes those publishers damn near terrified of risk.
I've long said we would all be better off with smaller games releasing every 2 years rather than the current model of a AAA game taking almost an entire console generation to develop.
I'd happily buy a £60 every two years. But I won't EVER buy a £100 game.
You’d rather pay £240 for several smaller games that are continuations of eachother than pay £100 to have one game that is just one game??
Gigantic open world games, Massively Multiplayer Online Rpgs, and live-service games are not the only viable projects out there. But you wouldn't know that watching some of these large publishers.
One reason I appreciate studios like Obsidian, they didn't lose focus
Most people don't. They want good stories and solid gameplay. But most importantly they don't want to wait 5+ years for a sequel.
It's me I'm people.
That or they finally allow their first party games to go on sale.
That DK game looks awesome, but I'm still not paying that much for everything.
I assumed a game called "Welcome Tour" was a pack in like Astro is pre-installed on all PS5s.
Bit then again. 1-2 Switch was a £50 tech demo so I guess Nintendo gonna Nintendo.
And maybe it's my age, but I'm feeling huge diminishing returns from the new Mario Kart and Donkey Kong. They would have looked mindblowing ten years ago, but the new features look pretty standard today.
Not going to pay $80 or more for Elden Ring, nor GameCube games, hell no.
