Kind of thinking that for my next popular science book, I should do a compilation of some of the weirdest and most amazing stories I've come across in the history of science, primarily stories most folks will never even have heard of. What do you think?

The challenge is to find sufficiently weird, and sufficiently obscure, stories. You already have the skill to make them entertaining and educational.
