For one thing I saw this image far before January. For another, the guy is trying to make amends. He's putting himself out there for everyone to see, and trying to be a better person.
Let him do that, or drive him back to where he was.
ok well when your opinion is attempting to drive away the exact people that we should be welcoming with open arms I'll quietly tell you you're hurting instead of helping 🤷
be more like the girl in the rainbow pants, and save your hatred for the ones that still hate you
It's at a pride parade. The free hugs thing is pretty much saying "if your family rejected you I'm here for you instead" and is a common way to show support.
And especially since the hat hints that he's from Texas (not a Trump hat), we need more people like that.
Counterpoint: If supposed "former bigots" are driven away because they aren't getting enough metaphorical fellatio from people I propose said "former bigots" were never actually regretful of their past or actually disavowed their former beliefs.
I don't think I told anyone to even metaphorically drop to their knees for the guy lol.
He is offering an apology and free hugs. If he's greeted with hatred instead you're simply reinforcing his former beliefs. The media and current bigots do plenty to demonize leftists, we don't need to help.
Great Page! Thank you! Here is a payback—my 3rd 5* book. FREE. Valuable tips on enjoying sanity during the immense shit-storm in progress on Earth. Why free? Because you/we are more important than the money. Please keep up the good work! https://www.fearlesspuppy.info/newbook Love from Kathmandu, Tenzin
Absolutely not! You made your bed. Lay in it alone. You can move on with your life and try doing better. As for me I will move on with my life without you. Go hug a cactus.
a man i can respect, it takes a great deal of courrage, intellegence, and wisdom to see the error in ones ways, and even more so to aknowledge it and try to change
The guy gets a lot of credit from me. Not only did he go through the journey of changing his outlook—which many, many people refuse to do even when faced with evidence—but he also publicly admitted his mistake. I respect that wholeheartedly.
I’m “going on about” a fucking half step. For the people he’s harmed, all he’s disrespected, go back, directly apologize to them until THEY are satisfied, none of this self grandiose bullshit. HE benefits, from what he’s doing. This is a liberal apology, I want to worthwhile human being’s apology.
That's some wild stuff to assume he hasn't apologized directly to people. Being so scorched earth sows more divides. The guy seems like he's trying, and you're actively hating on him.
I really respect people who are willing to admit they were wrong/misled/undereducated/brainwashed/etc. And make conscious efforts to unlearn the hate and the misinformation... it takes a lot of courage to look at your life path and realize you're lost. I hope this guy inspired more people to look.
I changed. As soon as you start thinking for yourself and forget all the bullshit you’ve been taught, actually educate yourself and get to know the people you’re supposed to dislike, then you realize how much time you’ve wasted being ignorant and denying yourself the ability to grow as a human being
That's why they have started removing books from school libraries and articles from public websites, so that the new generation of bigots do not find out that the other sides are humans too.
If someone can take accountability, then I think it's acceptable to forgive.
I know these older generations have been manipulated by the internet to regress. I believe there was a tactic involved where fascism could brainwash them to accept hate again. Ai can easily trick them.
Most are too stubborn to accept they're wrong because they don't want to bruise their ego. So for someone to accept they were truly at fault, and are genuinely sorry, deserve a second chance. Unless they actually hurt someone. Otherwise, I don't think we're much better if we don't tolerate change.
It takes alot for those of this mold 2 do this hell 2 even admit they are or were wrong… this is admirable & should be appreciated & applauded advocacy of any kind should be welcomed & encouraged this is a step w/love it becomes a sprint or snowball w/shaming likely recession #foodforthought 🤓💕 -mí
Exactly! We shouldn't attack this guy for doing what he thinks is right and taking a step in the right direction. That's the type of behavior that pushes people back across to hatred.
You might understand though that why members of some marginalized communities have a great deal of suspicion of those claiming to be former bigots. You have to show that you’ve changed, you can’t just say it.

I respect if he's being honest but the question about the hat is perfectly valid
love seeing this
gives me hope that it's possible. In fact, this happening is going to be critical to getting our country back
Do it
Love is the only way out of the darkness
This. For multiple reasons.
a) beautiful human moment, organic, hopeful and inspiring
b) THEY. HAVE. TO. WANT. TO. CHANGE.
Please go to the people you harmed and ask them what you can do to make them whole.
THEN I'll believe you.
Not until THEN.
...this just strikes me as a nice gesture, but a half-step. An actualized individual OWNS their actions-for good and for bad.
I know these older generations have been manipulated by the internet to regress. I believe there was a tactic involved where fascism could brainwash them to accept hate again. Ai can easily trick them.
If only more could…
And he's in public openly admitting his mistake.
I've been a damn near militant leftist for decades but come on, allow someone to apologize if they want to. This guy is doing exactly the right thing.
It's not a MAGA hat, and he's trying to apologize for what he's done.
LET HIM APOLOGIZE! AND WELCOME HIM!
Don’t cheer people who regret their choice, welcome them. Pat them on the back and reinforce that this is not the crazy, hateful side of the issue.
Show them that they are not only valued, but not alone.
Do better
Why would I sit down with people destroying my family, my home, my life?
Why would I give a hug to someone who called for murder of people like me?
If you have that in you, good for you, truly. I absolutely do not.
Once I graduated high school and went into the real world, I realized how truly fucked up it was.
I guess I understand where a recovering bigot comes from
