Starter packs are suggestions of folks to follow - the lists are a way to get access to the science feed when using the test tube emoji. They're complementary things!

Sure Tim, I know. But you can also pin the list and have a feed of what all those folk post, regardless of whether you want to follow them or not. Just thought it worth pointing out to many new arrivals.
