I find that I get a nice balance having turned on the home feed option where it intersperses posts from your feeds, if you haven't turned that on yet. For when you don't quite want inundation, but you need a few little treats.

I mean you also have to follow the feeds so you can get the post to show up in your home feed, it's not an automatic occasional hog button.

Check if your view stuff is messed with. Mine changed all of the setting on what comments I could see due to likes etc. as well as quote skeets.
